Picked up Paddock to pick up slack for lack of 2 start guys this week. Need to replace him with one of my studs. That list includes: R. Lopez, Grayrod, Cole, Castillo, Pivetta, Webb, or Steele.
Ray Murphy

Sorry, not following. If you're starting Paddack ahead of one of these guys this week, I'd be leery... I mentioned in Double Dippin' that I don't know how long Paddack will go in these two starts. (Always consult Matchup Scores for these decisions.)

H2H OBP Dynasty.  E. Diaz, B. Naylor, Garver, or Langeliers until Realmuto returns?
Ray Murphy
12:43
Naylor (looks like he's gotten right in the last few weeks, finally) or Garver would be my choices, based on your category needs.

Roster pruning question for a deep, NL-only league. Among Ben Brown, AJ Smith-Shawver, and Jordan Walker, which one has the most impact in 2025 and beyond?
Ray Murphy
12:43
I'll still say Walker here... consistent with my answer above.

12-team, NL-only dynasty league. Targeting Vientos in a trade. He had a reputation as a LHP masher but his splits against RHP are more than decent this year. Full time 3B next year who pops 30 HR, or am I too optimistic?
Ray Murphy
12:45
Definitely think that's possible... and 3B isn't his only path to 30 HR. DH should open back up for him. Maybe even 1B (ducks... sorry, Mets fans).

Hi Ray,

20 team points like. I currently have a $1 Brendan Donovan at 2B with Betts on the IL. We start 1 catcher and I have O'Hoppe and Wilson Contreras. I've been offered an $11 Bogaerts for O'Hoppe.

Bogaerts has been dismal so far and one must wonder if he recovers. Donovan does have his upside but is certainly outperforming so far in 2024.

Tour thought/

And thanks.
Ray Murphy

First the specific: since one of those C's is a complete luxury item, I'd certainly trade one for Bogaerts, just to give yourself the optionality at 2B while waiting for Betts.

I would normally be pessimistic about Bogaerts return, but he is very far ahead of the initial schedule for rehab... seems like there would be no reason to push him this hard if he wasn't actually good to go (or close to it.)

Does Povitch stay in the Balitmore rotation?
Ray Murphy
12:49
No, gotta think the O's are going to deal for some SPs soon.
Bob
12:49
Do you think Xander Bogaerts will be good upon his return?
Ray Murphy
12:49
Just answered above... cautiously optimistic.
Bob
12:49
What are your expectations for Springs?
Ray Murphy
12:49
Also answered earlier... seems like rehab has gone smoothly. Still gotta think he'll be handled carefully.

When will D. May come back? What should we expect? Worth grabbing in a keeper league?
Ray Murphy
12:51
Not out on a rehab assignment yet as far as I've seen. Surgery was last July, so 14-month-ish return is just for a Sept cup-o-coffee. Wouldn't expect more than that this year. Keeper leagues... sure, worth grabbing depending on cost.

Hi Ray. Jared Jones lat injury has a variable timetable but it seems mid-August is more or less the best-case scenario. With that in mind, would you drop him for an injured SP with a nearer-term return date, like Jeff Springs, Robbie Ray, or Kodai Senga? Context is looking to win this year, team currently on the playoff bubble, 12 team 5x5 QS league. Thanks!
Ray Murphy
12:53
Yeah, make sure to check the Big Hurt note on Jones, doesn't sound good. In terms of those replacements, I'd speculate on Springs way before the other two.

Chances Ben Rice sticks around as a regular after the trade deadline?
Ray Murphy
12:54
If he hits 3 HR a night, I think he'll stick in NY. :)

Seriously, though... it all depends on whether he keeps hitting/getting on base.

Is Trout done for the year? If not, worth trading for if you have to give up a young player like Lawler? or pitcher like Steele?
Ray Murphy
12:55
Not done for the year, supposed to be back toward end of July. We know what he can do at the plate, but we don't know if he can stay healthy, even for two months. Tough to advise what to pay in that situation.

Where did Riley Greene's steals go?
Ray Murphy
12:57
Seems to be manager decision... as a team, DET is 28th in SB. They've only got 40 on the year. But we're not really complaining about what we're getting from Riley Greene this year, are we?

Hi Ray. Deep NL 5x5 keeper league. What do you think about Davidjohn Herz? Any profit potential or a negative drain?
Ray Murphy
12:58
It's been all feast or famine. I don't think it's the kind of stuff that eventually shifts into "more feast than famine". He'll hang some really pretty starts, but not sure I want to ride that particular ride long term.

Why isn't Abreu closing in Hou already? He's the only consistent one of the "big 3"
Ray Murphy

Well, someone's got to get the ball to Hader in the 9th, so he can give up a HR.

Seriously, though, Hader goes through something like this every year. Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get the next save opp. Doesn't mean it will go to Abrewu, though... Pressly hasn't given up a run in a month.

Ray, a few years ago you published an article about how to look at strengths and weaknesses of your team at midseason.  I can't find it with the search feature.  Can you suggest some keywords?  (Or just publish it as a separate feature sometime this week!  :) )  Thanks!
Ray Murphy

Hmmm, doesn't ring a bell off the top of my head, but I'll look around for it.

OK, gang...  think I'll wrap this one up for today. Thanks for all the good questions. Enjoy the last week before the ASB! Brent or myself (not sure which) will be back here next Monday noon. Until then....
