Happy Friday, everyone. While we're past saying "it's still early", it's not too late for guys to shake off slow starts. For instance, Adley Rutschman seems to be heating up. Let's heat up the chat here...

Good hitting, weak pitching deep NL-only 5x5 team. Who would you drop, and is it close?  McNeil, Kepler, Bell, Vientos or Maton?  (The first three are cheap, so if you think they have a high potential for turning it around, they might be keepers next season, which is a minor factor.)
Ray Murphy
12:07
It's pretty close.... I'm not wildly optimistic about any turnarounds there, really. But Kepler looks so lost, I think I'd excise him first.

In 12-tm H2H category, with middling pitching (no SP1) and the best on waiver wire the likes of Severino, Ben Brown, T Bradley, Soriano, R Nelson, Gonsolin, Sugano, Paddack and Cecconi — would you still hold Baz, G Holmes and Jobe?
Ray Murphy
12:09
If it's not a dynasty format, I don't see any reason to hold Jobe while he's missing a month. Skills were kind of concerning even before he got hurt. I'm a Ryne Nelson fan, might go there first.

Any thoughts about Craig Kimbrel?
Ray Murphy
12:11
A test of the power of nostalgia, I guess? He wasn't great in Triple-A... 8 BB/17 K in 15 IP. Raisel's a mess, so maybe Kimbrel gets a few opps while they try to get Raisel straight? I was happy with end-stage Kimbrel out of my life, I don't feel any need to get on the bandwagon now.

Hi Ray, Thanks for considering this question. It's more affirmation than anything.

16 team H2H Points league, $430 cap, 40 player roster + minor roster, 23 active & 17 bench. Deep league. We start 5 SPs and 6 RPs with the caveat that RPs don't start - RPs only.

My team has been more successful than I expected but my RPs are a "soft" spot. I made 2 trades to strengthen the area, sending Buehler, Akins, Pierce Johnson, JR Ritchie (Minor) plus cash to partially offset Buehler's salary. In return I got Carlos Esteves and Alex Vesia plus a bit of cap relief. Essentially, replacing Johnson and Akins while dumping Buehler who is at the bottom of my SP cadre. The loss of Ritchie is unfortunate but necessary.

I am considering one further move, targeting Uribe to replace one of Sands/Kittredge/Uceta/Speier. It will probably cost me one of my minors: Snelling/Klassen/Whisenhunt/S. Suarez.

These moves may only add 5-10 points per week but could net a couple of additional wins RoS.

Thoughts?

I love Uribe.

Hi Ray,                                           I have to cut three guys soon in a 6x6 mixed rotisserie league from Encarnacion-Strand, Evan Carter, Dylan Crews, Nick Kurtz, Wenceel Perez, Colton Cowser, Matt Shaw, Jake Berger and Jasson Dominguez.  I have had five players stashed on the IL.  My offense is pretty balanced so they all can contribute.  Any help is appreciated.
Ray Murphy
12:14
Wenceel's going to get squeezed out of that OF, so start there. He's a cut.

Think you have to keep Crews, Shaw, Burger, Dominguez.

So that leaves Carter/Cowser/Kurtz as the other cuts. Maybe wait and see how Carter is used, what else develops before the logjam hits.

Observing the many outcomes of various bullpens and with the new data available per various sites really allows the viewer to accumulate depth. I happened to look at the outcomes of at bats vs. Shelby Miller over the past few weeks. Oh my! The hard hit exit velocities against Shelby indicate his closing time is coming to an end. Hitters exit velocities against him are extraordinary. Any gossip on him being hurt?
Ray Murphy
12:16
It's Shelby Miller... he's never far from being hurt. :) Regardless, I think we're trending back toward that being Justin Martinez's 9th inning job. That random 1.2 IP/4 BB outing the other day was a setback. But at least that also showed they thought he could handle that. And we'll see Puk again at some point too.

10 team mixed 5x5 keeper. Luzardo looked like a draft day steal for his first 9 starts. Now, having had my era destroyed by 20(!) runs over his las 5 innings, do I drop him? ( Kelly, Lugo, Bassitt, B. Miller, Pepiot, and Berrios are available) THANKS for taking the time to help us fantasy managers!
Ray Murphy
12:18
I mean, bench him for sure, and if you can't do that I'd think about dropping. It's so bad it seems like it's a pitch-tipping issue or something. Normally I'm not so reactionary, but obviously 20 ER in 2 GS isn't something you can just continue to absorb. If you're in a 10-team mixed, you have options.

Ray...Mornin'. It's about this Baldwin dude putting up the grand #s. He is showing beyond his 8C rating. Is this a flash or a future star? What is your sense? Thanx!
Ray Murphy
12:19
I mean, 8C is pretty good, esp for a catcher. Skills are looking good, but not THIS good. He'll pull back some, but long-term looks like a keeper. Definitely not a flash.

Corey Seagers has looked really bad since coming off the IL. Any concerns about him playing through an injury and would you be shopping him in shallow 12 team roto leagues where other managers might be
Ray Murphy
12:20
Ewww, 0-21 with 13 Ks is pretty bad for sure. Still, it's just a week. I'd only shop him for near-full value.

12:23
After todays arsenal report on Freddy Peralta are you selling him being top echelon starter ROS?
Ray Murphy
12:23
2.92 ERA/4.02 xERA, for a guy who doesn't have a history of outperforming his xERA, and has had trouble putting two good halves together in the same season? Yeah, I'm selling.

Jac Caglianone first impressions? Worth holding in mixed12 team rotos?
Ray Murphy
12:26
I've not gotten eyes on him yet, and not sure what we can draw from three games anyway. But yes, I'd be holding... or bidding.

How do you see LAD bullpen shaking out once Kopech and Yates are back?
Ray Murphy
12:26
PD and I discussed on today's HQ Radio. I think Yates could siphon some short-term saves from Scott. Kopech has been rough in minors, he's going to need to show he's found his stuff before he gets in the mix.

Does Stowers have another homer binge in him? Is he a roster-able player in 12 tm cats moving forward?
Ray Murphy
12:27
I still like him even after a couple of dry weeks. I'd hold a little longer in a 12-teamer.

McCullers looks sharp, he's head-and-shoulders above the rest here.

Calling all doctors...someone dropped Alex Bregman in my H2H points league probably due to the last time he had this injury, he was out 8-10 weeks and our season ends in 10 weeks.  Any thoughts on back before July 15th?
Ray Murphy
12:30
I haven't heard any noise locally that he's ahead of schedule, probably too early for that anyway. I'd set expectations at All-Star Break until we start to hear that he's ramping up activities.

Hi Ray!  Following up on my question from last week, about an old article you wrote about evaluating your team in-season using skill indicators.  You said you hadn't found it in your writing since 2018 but you would do a deeper dive.  Since then, I've remembered additional facts: yeah, it had to be before 2018 (really helpful now), but after 2012; I remember that one of the skill indicators was CT%; the indicators were such that we could set up a report in MACK to show them, which I did.  I hope that helps.  If you find it, please post it somewhere on the Forum, or in this space next week.  Thanks again!

Thanks for the reminder, I'll use this to poke around this weekend...

How many injured players is too many to hold on your bench?
Ray Murphy
12:31
Depends on how many bench spots. NFBC gives you 7 bench, holding more than one injured guy gets really hard.

Hi Ray! 10 team NL 5x5 -- Have the Pirates soured on Canario - is he a drop? I plan to FAAB T Freeman & D Smith and waive Yaz and Canario. Does that seem wise?

And one more, if I may - will guys like W Adames and J Fraley ever hit again??!!! It's like they forgot how!
Ray Murphy
12:33
I think Canario's window started closing as soon as he stopped hitting. But I would NOT waive Yaz for D Smith.

Adames, at least his bb%/ct% are holding up/getting better. Small signs of life...

Hi Ray. Please rank these three possible breakout SPs for ROS expected value: McCullers, Will Warren, E. Cabrera. (5x5 QS)
Ray Murphy

Like em all, but I'll take the vet McCullers if you make me choose one.

Would you consider replacing Manzardo with Soderstrom if you had a transaction limit?
