Hey chatters ... firing this up a bit early, as there might be some minor interruptions at some point. Still lots to talk about, so let's not delay ...

Hi Brent, AL only. I put a claim for P. Meadows and waive K. Isbel. If I get him, worth the shot? 9 teams and I'm 5th on the waiver list. We only get callups not protected in AL or NL trades as waivers. Thanks!!
Brent Hershey
11:52
Yep. Isbel hitting for BA, but not much else. Meadows more dynamic of player for fantasy, and could see him working his way into regular PT.

8 team NL Only. OBP/RBI/R/TB/Net SB. ERA/WHIP/W/K/Sv+Hld. Would you cut any of the following for Abel or Kirby Yates: R. Nelson, T. Santillan, Tylor Megill. Also, would you drop Wagaman for Mauricio? Thanks!
Brent Hershey
11:53
I've never been a Ryan Nelson guy; I'd take either of Yates or Abel (that order) over him. Would also yes, take a shot on Mauricio for Wagaman.

Brent...please deconfuse me. So, a player shows a skill # HCT of 129, yet shows weak #s for PX & XPX (in the 80s). I've thought high hard contact would produce high power #s. Please explain for me.
Brent Hershey
11:59
Our HctX (Hard contact Index) is a mix of hard-hit ball rate (from Sports Info Solutions, which is close but not the same as MLB Statcast HH%) and contact rate (ct% on BHQ). A high HctX (and 129 is 29% better than league average) points to good power potential, but there are other factors at play that HctX doesn't cover (launch angle, HR/F%, etc). In this case above, my hunch would be the player has a very good, if not elite, contact rate (not striking out) that is driving the current HctX. Hope that helps.

Hi Brent,                                          I am in a 6x6 mixed rotisserie league and have two questions with shifting situations:                     1) Holds are as important as any category and I took a lead early with Adam & Puk.  I replaced Puk (assume he will return eventually) with Fernando Cruz who was great until his injury, but the projected stats are not as good now.  None of the other Yankees options are available and I am not seeing an obvious choice in the BHQ projections.  Should I stay with Cruz or are there some rising options that you can recommend?  We have 14 teams, so the pickings are sparse.
Brent Hershey
12:02
Holds are super tough to project; I would continue to watch individual teams' usage patterns. Also very difficult to pick guys out blankly, but Yariel Rodriguez (TOR) and Reid Detmers (LAA) both have seemed to move into more high-leverage work recently. Our Bullpen Indicators chart can also help you compare/contrast.

Dropped question 2 - with Luzardo, who was very good, in a disastrous funk, should I cut bait now?  Are Kershaw, Buehler or Pfaadt an upgrade?
Brent Hershey
12:03
Still would prefer Luzardo to that trio at the moment.

Mayo hasn't shown much, but do you think he will eventually become the regular starting 1B for Baltimore?
Brent Hershey
12:05
Depends if on your definition of "eventually". Long-term? Yes. This year? Not so sure; there's still a lot of bodies and considerations there. Maybe once we get to July and (if) the O's sell off, Mayo's role become more clear/consistent for in the second half.

12:08
Hi Brent. Two questions today: 1) how worried should I be about Jésus Luzardo after two clunkers in a row, and 2) in a 5X5 H2H OBP league, I need to cut either Gavin Sheets or Tommy Edman. Who goes?
Brent Hershey
12:08
1) I'm watching closely, but as indicated above, I'm not willing to cut bait just yet. Was so good before those two maddening starts.(What? You can tell I have a few shares? :-) )
2) Sheets goes if you need speed and well-rounded stat line; Edman goes if you're seeking power only. What a great year for Sheets coming into his own, btw.

5x5 NL only league - who would you take ROS - W. Adames or M. McClain? Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:08
McClain, but it's close. Broader skill set; younger; better home park.

Good day Brent! As always, thanks for these great chats! NL 10 team 5x5. FAAB bids due tonight - my pitchers: Strider, Quintana, NMart, Birdsong, Casparius, B Brown, Diaz, Palencia, R Rodriguez - I don't think there are any obvious drops for me to bid on M Abel, M Kopech, R Vasquez, Kekkering or Strahm - are there? (I also have Imanaga due up soon...) Do I bid or bail?
Brent Hershey
12:11
Abel would be my only consideration of that list, but who the drop would be is not obvious. Guess Quintana is the closest, but he provides some stability. Might just save your pennies for the future.

12:14
And now for hitters! NL 10 team 5x5. I have at least 2-3 guys to waive ( Canario, Hiura, J Encarnacion) and I need SBs BA  - I lead the league in HRs. Which guy(s) do I drop and which guys do I bid on? - O Kemp, T Freeman, I Collins, H Davis, R Ritter, D Smith...
Brent Hershey
12:14
Not a great list, really for SB/BA. Freeman, maybe? I'd make Canario or Hiura the first cut. Hanging onto Jerar even through the early struggles and the fact that he's HR-centric isn't exactly what you seek. But feel he's the most talented of all in that group.

has Corey Seager ever been in a funk that looks THIS bad? Are we abandoning ship if we’re getting .75 on the dollar in mixed 12 teamers?
Brent Hershey
12:15
I'm not; track record is too good. Your mileage may vary - and that's not to say he hasn't been terrible.

10 team mixed 5x5 keeper. What to do with Brenton Doyle? His season has been derailed by injury and his wife's miscarriage; will he be able to regain his timing, or is it time to move on? THANKS for your insight!
Brent Hershey
12:16
In a 10-mixed, yeah there's probably better options out there.

Good morning, Brent! I've always had a "thing" for Hunter Greene, and with him injured again, this seems to be a "buy opportunity" for my dynasty league. I also need another potential ace to complete for the title. Think he can meet expectations down the stretch?

Thanks, as always!
Brent Hershey
12:18
Yes. Health cloud will hang over him until he can shed it ... but on the other hand, the fact that this is a non-arm injury does make me more hopeful of what we'll see when he returns. So great to see the huge step up this year.

hi Brent, thank you for taking my question. For this week : #1 do you prefer m vargas or j sanchez (3 lefties this week); #2 which do you prefer among megill vs tb, mcgreevy vs mil, gallen vs sd, roupp vs lad?
Brent Hershey
12:19
1) Vargas; ride the hot hand
2) Megill

12:34
Brent!! I just traded for Tanner Scott on the cheap after his recent struggled. It seems like I timed it well as his last few appearances have been encouraging. Do you think he leads the Dodgers in Saves going forward? I know LA as a bunch of options, but Scott still seems to be the best option ..

How do you see the Dodger BP situation shaking out??
Brent Hershey
12:34
Yep; like this move. Scott's underlying metrics look fine (including the huge improvement in walk rate, down to 3%); his "struggles" come mostly from H%/S%/HR/F of 35%/64%/16%. Our 2.82 xERA  and career-best 226 BPV says he'll be fine.

All that said, Roberts/LA have other options, esp with Yates back and Kopech / Vesia still around. But skills and team context (late-game Win potential) say to keep Scott active.

Hi Brent,

16 team H2H points league. McNeil/Baty/IKF/Stott for 2B?

Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:35
Stott's in a bit of funk currently, but like him the best rest of season. Probably IKF next given the points context.

Good morning and happy Monday, Brent!

Nolan Schanuel has caught my attention due to his elite plate skills and tick up in power this season. If his power continues to gradually improve going forward .. could we be looking at a guy that easily out-hits his "7" ceiling rating?

The Angels offense doesn't look as awful as it did a month ago, either ..
Brent Hershey
12:38
You're thinking about this in the right terms. Schanuel's ceiling just about entirely tied to power. Given the power-laden options at 1B, he can still pop 20 or so and be a "7" (average regular in our minor league rating system). But if the plate skills hold and it comes with a plus-BA, he'll be a nice return on investment on where you likely drafted him.

What is the deal with Jerar Encarnacion?  The Giants will play him twice/week and see if he gets hot?  Ugh.  I guess I ride it out as there is not much on the waiver wire... Otto Kemp v. Jerar?
Brent Hershey
12:40
I share your optimism here, but I think the issue for now is just he missed so much time and needs to get timing back. The spring player we saw could be a HR force, and there were whispers that seemed to indicate the club wanted to find him a spot. So yes .. I'd ride it out for now, as the talent ceiling is too good to ignore. Easily outpaces Kemp in that regard.

12:42
What do you think about Mick Abel? If he got a chance to stick, could he be impactful in a 12 team?
Brent Hershey
12:42
Still need to see more at MLB level, but composure in the first two starts is what really stood out (along with strike-throwing ability). Phils might have a good problem on their hands if he keeps this up when Nola gets back. Best case, I'd like to see another 1-2 starts like this before I'd put the 12-team "impact" label on him, but there's lots to like here so far.

Hi! Start India or Baty? Which two: Jesus Sanchez, Larnach or Jo Adel? Spencer Horowitz or Colt Keith? Mark Leiter or Matt Brash? 5x5 with obp and solds. Thanks!
