I thought he was taking off when he got recalled and came back hot, but 0-for-last-week takes the wind out of sails. Depends what your alternatives are, but I'd at least consider them.

AL only.  What is up with Rengifo?  I like veterans over rookies usually... trying to decide on CMoore or Rengifo and fab bids.   Preference?  What is the gap?
Ray Murphy
12:47
Rengifo's been terrible, but probably still has 3B on lockdown in between cameos from Moncada when he's not hurt. Depends on what you need... take the upside swing with Moore, or just count on regression to prior levels for Rengifo?

Thanks for these chats! NL 10 team 5x5 - thoughts on H Hernandez of Miami? He's getting ABs - is it just a good streak or is he a guy I want to roster over..say...I Collins?

and, while I'm here - I don't have theFAAB to get Devers, thoughts on B House?
Ray Murphy
12:48
Someone in forums asked about Hernandez over the weekend... or maybe it was in my chat on Friday. I think this is just a good streak.

I'd gladly take a shot at House.

Hey Ray! Lookin' for a little lineup help. Which two of; B Brown (vMIL+vSEA), D Festa (@CIN+vMIL), C Patrick (@CHC+@MIN), and J Misiorowski (@CHC) should I roll out this week?
Ray Murphy
12:48
Take the two-steps and sit Mis for this one.

Is KHarrison going to be in the BOS rotation soon?  If so, is he worth a fab shot?  over KRocker and CGordon?  Please rank ROS.  Which one has more Ks?
Ray Murphy
12:48
He's been sent to Triple-A, guessing they want to tinker with him a little bit. Would guess he's there for a few starts.

Z Gallen not having the contract year he hoped for. Change of scenery going to spark his skills or is he just a lower end SP ROS?
Ray Murphy
12:50
K% basically a straight downward line (gently) since start of his career in 2019. Not someone I would want to make a long-term FA commitment to.

NL-only, 12-team, dynasty. Scrounging for saves and Jake Bird is out there to bid on. What is behind his dramatic spike in K% this season and is he more likely to get dealt than to put up 10 saves ROS for the Rockies (assuming they win 10 more games)?
Ray Murphy
12:51
They seem to be going oout of their way to not give him save opps... as you say, not that they're plentiful out there. I don't think he gets 10 saves in COL or anywhere else.

OK, think I'll stop with the legit questions here and pivot to Sox talk...

I'm weirdly OK with the Devers trade. You?

John Henry is the biggest problem the Red Sox have and the 2017 WS championship is the root cause of it all. That team was not assembled to win a ring they were assembled to be competitive and rake in Fenway bucks from the fanbase. Once they got that 17 ring ownership has done the same thing year in and year out.

Contrary to most posts, I think Boston set the table by trading Devers. #1. They still remain a WC possibility, they were not winning division with Devers. #2. They become #1 on Kyle Tucker FA chase for 2026. #3. They keep young cist controlled roster. #4.The Devers trade might help them move Story and eat some $$. Summary: The Red Sox will be better going forward because of this trade. This  particular trade is WAY DIFFERENT than when Mookie was traded. Thoughts as a Red Sox fan?

Three disparate opinions above that seem to cover the gamut of viewpoints I've seen last night/this AM.

On the one hand.... Sox in last ~20 years have
  • tried to put Manny Ramirez on waivers
  • made a non-competitive offer to Jon Lester, had to trade him, then paid too much money to David Price in a reactionary move and traded HIM
  • packaged Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez to LA in a massive salary dump (that worked out amazingly well, to be fair)
  • dealt Betts rather than sign him
  • signed Sale to an ill-advised extension and then dealt him when it was underwater
  • now signed Devers and then dealt him before it went underwater.
That to me is definitely reflective of ownership that doesn't have the stomach to make long term deals and stick to them. That's my objection to what happened here... yes, this is probably a great deal for the 2030s, maybe even sooner if Harrison/Tibbs develop. But there's no question it makes the 2025 team worse.
12:58
All that said... if you tell me right now that they're going to use the free money to lock up Bregman (and Duran?), cut early deals with Anthony and Mayer (maybe even Casas), and basically play back the Braves playbook with Campbell/Rafaela/Anthony/Mayer/Abreu/Crochet all under long term control.... I'm pretty into that plan.

All that said, mid-lineup mashers like Devers are hard to come by, and suddenly there's a lot of pressure on Mayer/Anthony to be that kind of impact bat... and soon.
12:59
So, in short: I'm fascinated.
OK, that'll wrap for today. One of Brent or myself will be back on Friday. Have a great week!
