They can't . .  but they can't keep Brantley out either. Tucker in CF is the only answer there, and that's a big dropoff defensively. I'm fascinated to see what they do myself.

I know it's just speculation but what percent chance do you give the Orioles signing one of the FA SS to a long-term deal to fill that void in their middle infield with no real options in their minors coming for at least a couple years?
Kevin Goldstein

0.8219482%

You think Houston makes a serious run at keeping Correa or do they let him walk without much effort?
Kevin Goldstein
12:19
I think they'll make another offer or two, but I still would bet that it's not enough.
Derek

At what point is firing Dave Roberts justifiable? Obviously he's had remarkable success but, as unfair as it might be, one World Series title (in a weirdo season at that) is pretty clearly an underperformance compared to expectations, and the number of questionable-to-obviously-wrong postseason decisions balloons every wear.
Kevin Goldstein
12:19
We just don't know how much of those decisions are his, and how many were templates from the front office that he followed. Manager always takes the blame, but doesn't always deserve it.

Is Nestor Cortes for real?
Kevin Goldstein
12:20
Real as in solid starting pitcher? Sure.

What would be your solution to pace of play. The other night in the afl they had a game with roboumps and 22 walks. This would be unwatchable.
Kevin Goldstein
12:20
That's not a pace of play issue, that's a roboump issue...

I saw that you mentioned going to scout nick plummer years ago.  Did teams consider him a first rounder or was he a reach for STL?  Are you surprised he cratered for years ?  Are you more surprised he’s gotten back into prospect charts?  Is he an impact player eventually ?
Kevin Goldstein
12:21
I put first-round money on him . . . I think there might be some big league utility to him, but I'm not putting impact on that.

How often do players request trades that aren't made public?
Kevin Goldstein
12:21
It's really quite rare.
Zirinsky
12:22
Hi Kevin.  Where do you think the sticky stuff situation goes next year?  New ball?  Some approved substance?  Nothing?
Kevin Goldstein
12:22
Might not be next year, but soon we'll just have a pre-tacked ball.

How far apart (geographically) are all 30 Dominican complexes?
Kevin Goldstein
12:23
Not very. There are clusters. The Royals complex is literally right next to Houston's. There are three or four more than are within ten minutes, and probably 20 within an hour's drive.

12:24
When you were with the Astros was there any KBO players you had looked into and thought they could play in the MLB?
Kevin Goldstein
12:24
Well, Brooks Raley was one! In terms of Korean natives, we never found one we wanted to make a hard pursuit of.

Joey weimer on helium watch. High risk or something to believe in?
Kevin Goldstein
12:25
Both maybe? Big dude, big tools, some risk to the profile.
Owen
12:25
Who costs more in prospects: Jose Ramirez or Ketel Marte? If you were the Mariners which one would you prefer to go after?
Kevin Goldstein
12:25
Jose Ramirez; Jose Ramirez. And I like Marte quite a bit, I just love Jose Ramirez.

Why won't mlb move playoff games to an earlier time slot? Is it strictly an issue with TV dollars? I'm old now and cannot stay up until midnight to watch a game
Kevin Goldstein
12:26
Yeah, it's TV dollars. They pay billions for it, they get to set times. As a pure night owl, I'm probably not the most sympathetic ear on this one.

Whose offseason will you be most interested in? I think the Tigers have a sneaky chance to vault into legitimate contention next season or the following if they can snag one of the big shortstops and add a few other, smaller pieces (this assumes that Torkelson and/or Greene are major league impact bats in short order)
Kevin Goldstein
12:27
Tigers are a great answer. As far as how they manage the off-season. Dodgers and Giants are both fascinating to me. Yankees, Astros in the team photo as well.

Any horror movies jump to mind as those you'd consider for a top 100?
Kevin Goldstein
12:28
A Korean film called A Tale Of Sisters. The original Night Of The Living Dead. Is Midsommar horror? I'm not sure about that one....
Owen
12:28
How do negotiations work? Is everyone clear what a FA’’s current highest bid and it’s like an auction? Or are teams in the dark and give their best offer?
Kevin Goldstein
12:29
It varies. You give an offer and then you get feedback from the agent. Hey, my client has more elsewhere so you need to up things. Sometimes you get specifics, sometimes you don't....
Zirinsky
12:29
Kevin: On that robo-ump question, if we can all basically see balls/strikes really well on our TVs home with those strike zone boxes (I'm assuming this is true, maybe it isn't), why is it so hard to implement this on the field?
Kevin Goldstein
12:29
[Whispers] Those strike zone boxes aren't nearly as accurate as they'd like you to believe....

Who gets more this off-season, Carlos Correa, or Corey Seager?
Kevin Goldstein
12:30
Correa.
Zirinsky
12:30
Do you think it would be worth it for Brian Cashman to bring on a GM and then move up in the ranks, similar to what other FOs have done/are doing?
Kevin Goldstein
12:30
Not really....

There were 847 pitchers used in the majors in 2021 (not counting position players). 28 per team. The previous high in 2019 was 776. The trend is continuous rise but how far can it really go?
