Kevin Goldstein

I think, much like 2020, 2021 is a little freakish and not true information.

In the past you said Luis Garcia was viewed as a good not great prospect but how do you explain the massive jump he made this year and the stuff he's got?
Kevin Goldstein
12:31
Players change, often dramatically.
Mrs. Phanatic
12:31
You a big reader at all? Care to suggest any good books?
Kevin Goldstein
12:31
I like a lot of magic realism stuff (Coover, DeLilo, etc.)
Cold Turkey Stearns

Jays fans really want Semien and Ray back. How much of that plays into front office thinking?
Kevin Goldstein
12:32
Very little. I'm sure the front office wants them back as well, but what the fans think doesn't play a big role.
Larry
12:32
What level are you in Pokemon Go?
Kevin Goldstein
12:32
I stopped playing like a year ago at 35-36. Wife got to 40.

12:34
Which movie is on your "great" list that the highest percentage of the public would agree with you on?
Kevin Goldstein
12:34
I don't know . . . Stalker? Blade Runner? La Dolce Vita?
KB
12:35
How much does a big postseason help a player in free agency? Thinking about Eddie Rosario.
Kevin Goldstein
12:35
Moves the needle a bit, but not much. Body of work is the body of work.
Jonny
12:35
How big a step up is it for a GM or assistant GM type to handle a POBO slot?  In other words, is it feasible for the Mets to hire a Harris/Arnold etc. as POBO, or is that too much of a reach?
Kevin Goldstein
12:35
I don't think that's too much of a reach.
Zirinsky
12:36
I know you think the Yankees should sign Correa...why him over Seager (and I realize we're kind of splitting hairs)?
Kevin Goldstein
12:36
I don't think we're splitting hairs. Correa is the better player, and a MUCH better defender.

Should the Astros consider pitching Framber in game 4 on short rest given he's a extreme groundball pitcher and that would help out the defensively lacking Yordan-Tucker-Brantley outfield? Or is that overthinking it?
Kevin Goldstein
12:37
I think you make that decision after Game 3, and don't even start thinking about it until after Game 2.
Cold Turkey Stearns
12:37
Do you think the Rays to Montreal part-time has any legs, or is it just silly talk?
Kevin Goldstein
12:37
Still feels silly to me.
Rodney
12:37
I'm in my mid-30s. Established in a career that emphasizes communication and critical thinking. And a very serious lifelong student of baseball knowledge and information. But no formal systems training. Is it crazy to contemplate a career change and try to work in the sport? Either for a team, the league or a site like this?
Kevin Goldstein
12:38
Oh go for it.
Cold Turkey Stearns
12:38
Why are trade requests so rare? It seems like they are extremely common in the other major sports.
Kevin Goldstein
12:38
Because they don't have to honor them? There's nothing binding about them. They're just words.
sadtrombone
12:39
Are you rooting for the Astros? I am legitimately curious.
Kevin Goldstein
12:39
I'm not. There are players there that I root for. There are still some people in the office that I root for. But as a team? No. Went into more detail on this recently on the podcast.
sadtrombone
12:40
Midsommar is definitely horror. My goodness.
Kevin Goldstein
12:40
You're right.
Cold Turkey Stearns
12:41
Do teams ever give offers so low that players get angry or insulted?
Kevin Goldstein
12:41
Oh yes. I've seen it in action.

12:41
Do you think the Orioles should trade Mullins with the # of OF prospects they have in minors.
Kevin Goldstein
12:41
Absolutely not.

12:42
It's prediction time, Who'll win? Bravos? or 'Stros?
Kevin Goldstein
12:42
I'm staying on brand and telling you either team can win, and anybody telling you what is going to happen in a playoff series is just guessing.
Ben
12:43
At what point will the Astros no longer be considered a villain? When no more 2017 guys are on the team? When they go through a new rebuilding process?
Kevin Goldstein
12:43
Yeah, it's going to take a LONG TIME.

12:44
Does the NIL rule give any bargaining power to college juniors to allow them to threaten to return to school?
Kevin Goldstein
12:44
Not really. Not a ton of NIL money in college baseball.
Appa Yip Yip
12:45
Wouldn't the players association have to sign off on any plan to split playing time between Tampa and Montréal? And why would they that sounds like it would suck.
