How strict on scrabble rules are you?
Kevin Goldstein

Depends on the night. Last night was just a keep-the-game-moving night while we talk and listen to music.

On the tampering answer, what if it was a player who was formerly in your organization and you already knew them?
Kevin Goldstein
1:00
It would be fine to say hello and how are you and how's the family. Saying anything about looking specifically at the player or his current/future situation would be very wrong.

Did it ever give you pause that lunhow was a mckinsey guy? Did you ever butt heads over his general private equity approach being applied to baseball? Slashing staff, etc.
Kevin Goldstein

I certainly expressed disagreements. I wasn't a consultant, but I did work for a management consulting firm in the late 80s early 90s on the tech side, so I know what it means.

If (likely when) the season gets delayed, do you think they'll simply cancel the missed games or rework a schedule for the shortened season?  My team plays a division rival seven times in the first two weeks and it seems a bit strange to lose those games but remaking a schedule would be a nightmare.
Kevin Goldstein
1:03
I think you will see SOME level of schedule re-working.

I've often wondered if it's a tough transition for a player to come from a top-notch college program with awesome facilities and lots of on-campus energy to playing in front of 1,000 people in an old stadium at some random city.
Kevin Goldstein
1:03
It certainly can be.

For hitters, is there a height at which a team will not consider a player as too tall or too short?
Kevin Goldstein
1:03
I've never seen one.

Who are you personally leaning at 1.1, Termarr or Druw. Can't get over the potential with Termarrs bat.
Kevin Goldstein
1:03
I think it's silly to lean anywhere before games start.

Who is your all-time favorite couple on love island UK?
Kevin Goldstein

Hmmmmm, define 'favourite'

When a major leaguer gets released or non-tendered after the season, does someone call the player or his agent?  Or is it just an email?  Is it different for minor leaguers?
Kevin Goldstein
1:04
It's a phone call.

In regards to title inflation with front office execs.  Could I just promote generic asst gm X to the title of grand poobah of baseball? Or is there a defined list of titles?
Kevin Goldstein
1:05
There is no defined list, and often people with the same title on different teams are doing VERY different jobs.

How much gamesmanship typically goes on when discussing trades? For example if you have a pitcher you're targeting do you visibly flood different trade candidate's starts with scouts to apply some pressure? Do teams leak interest in every other player besides the one they're trading to target?
Kevin Goldstein
1:06
It's really much more straightforward than you think.

thanks for your answer, quick follow up: do you get the sense that lunhow was a baseball fan and that he loved the game?
Kevin Goldstein
1:06
Yeah, for sure.

Regarding the actual process of a MLB trade, I'm curious as to how much information is shared regarding the other offers that are already on the table. Is it "look Cleveland is offering as x,y, and z so you need to top that" or is it "we have a better offer"
Kevin Goldstein
1:06
More the 'we have a better offer elsewhere so we need more' kind of messaging.

Is there a noticeable coldness that veteran players treat younger players with because they think they're trying to steal their jobs, or is winning more important? Does it vary player to player?
Kevin Goldstein
1:07
EVERYTHING varies player to player.

Just started Astroball. Have you read?
Kevin Goldstein

I have not.

I recall seeing somewhere that some MLB orgs have no/hardly any Pacific scouting going on. Any truth to that?
Kevin Goldstein
1:08
Like permanent scouts in Asia? Some teams have one, some have none.

When at the trade deadline or before the draft do clubs send out certain execs as decoys?
Kevin Goldstein
1:09
Ain't nobody got time for that.

Is the Baseball Ops side of the FO separate from the Business Ops?
Kevin Goldstein
1:10
Usually. Certainly should be.

How do different language-speaking players get along in clubhouses? Is there a lot of smiling and waving going on, a lot of body language? Are interpreters always around?
Kevin Goldstein
1:10
There's always an interpreter or a bilingual player around . . .
