Hey folks! Thanks for all the questions. Looks like it'll be a busy session.
A quick word of warning, I'm earlier in my preparation process than I usually am for this time of year. Those of you looking for very deep sleepers might be a bit disappointed.

For example, I've yet to engage my sources for prospect breakouts.
That said, we don't have any data/looks yet against which to gauge growth

The one guy who comes to mind is Edgar Quero
If he repeats most of the traits he flashed last season, he'll finish '23 as a Top 30 prospect.
1:01
He's a catcher though. I find those generally lack fantasy trade value.

I’m in an NL only salary cap league. I need to decide whether Willson Contreras is worth keeping at $20. I also have Will Smith at $12. We are a 2 starting catcher league with a $270 cap at auction day. We are a keeper league and can keep up to 15 MLB players. My heart is broken that Willy went to the east Missouri team, but his stats may heal my broken heart if I do hang onto him.

I think that's a function of preference, league inflation, and opportunity cost.
1:03
He's probably more of a $15 performer, but he could easily cost over $20 in a keep-15 auction.
Can you use that $20 to substantially upgrade another position? Probably not, I'm guessing.

What are your expectations for Juan Soto? I'm debating whether to keep him at one of the top salaries in our league (the specific price doesn't really matter because of decades of inflation), but he sure was rather underwhelming after last year's trade to SD.

I'm not too concerned about the slow start in San Diego. That's a big adjustment for a young player who has only known one org. I'm writing it off as part of the human element.
1:05
He's a massively high floor, high ceiling type.

I am a 10+ year fantasy baseball vet, however I have ALWAYS played H2H points. This year, I am doing my first ever ROTO league. What advice do you have for me?
Brad Johnson
1:06
Don't plan to punt any categories if you can help it. However, failing to draft saves is different than punting saves. It just means you'll be working the wire all season.
In general, a good strategy is to aim for third place in every category in-draft.
1:07
You'll want to pay close attention to your categories in-season. If you have a bunch of leadoff men and find yourself with a 40 R cushion and a 50 RBI deficit, you need to reshuffle the roster.
1:08
I tend to put a little less emphasis on getting good SPs in Roto. That might just be a me thing.

Who are the best candidates for a breakout season as a closer?
Brad Johnson
1:10
Here are a few categories
1:11
Second chair, good enough: Jonathan Loaisiga, Erik Swanson, Jhoan Duran, Griffin Jax,Andres Munoz, A.J. Minter, A.J. Puk
Leading but maybe not that interesting: Alex Lange, Carlos Estevez, Trevor May
Liam Hendriks' replacement: Kendall Graveman
1:12
I don't have those deep plays queued up yet.

NL keeper, standard roto categories, last keeper down to Kim, Estrada, Carlson. Salaries comparable (cheap), position not a big factor, though flexibility with Kim and Estrada is something of a plus. Can be kept next year as well. Make an argument for one.
Brad Johnson
1:13
I think most of my colleagues would say Estrada, but I'm not a big fan of his hitting profile. I like Kim's flexibility as a high floor helper for 2023. I like Carlson as the guy who could blow up into a valuable asset.
The likelihood is that they're all cuts after next season.

Brad...with the off-season infield acquisitions, but no true shortstop, how many AB and what primary position do you see Rengifo playing? Thanks.
Brad Johnson
1:15
Rengifo, aka discount Thairo Estrada, is a tough one to project. They'll hot hand it with six players across the four infield positions.
I'll WAG 450 PA mostly at SS with some time elsewhere.

In a 10 team NL only league, and we can keep 2 players in a dynasty style league.  Have to decide between Acuna, Alonso, Austin Riley, Fried and Gallen. Any thoughts?
Brad Johnson
1:16
Acuna's a no-brainer. I'd do Riley over Alonso. The pitchers are cuts, good as they are.

Thoughts on Tyler O'Neill? If he's anywhere close to his 2021 level, I would gladly keep him at his price in my league.  Heck, even his 14HR/14SB '22 was solid enough to maybe make him worth it if he repeats those totals, but his .228 BA was weak and his runs and RBIs were bland (56/58).
Brad Johnson
1:19
It's very likely 2021 was his career best. That said, he's a volatile player type who projects for a 25/20 season and could exceed 30/30. I'd give it another go. He attempted 18 SBs (14 successful) in about half a season last year.

I have the first pick in a dynasty redraft. We keep a lot of players so the pool is shallow. my team is garbage so I'm not picking for fit.
how do you feel about Senga or Yoshida for dynasty purposes?
Brad Johnson
1:21
I'm not sure what you mean by dynasty redraft. If it's a FYPD, I'd go with Jackson Holliday or Druw Jones. Or are you saying it's dynasty but only MLBers are rostered? In that case, I'd probably go for Yoshida since he's likelier to have long-term value.
The reason for that mostly being pitcher attrition

Second base options seem so limited.  Is it better just to punt on this position and grab someone cheap late?
