Can't say I agree. Ketel Marte is the 20th 2B off the board.
1:22
So, I guess, yes, punt and take a late Ketel.

Saves remains the most fluid of positions. Looking at the expected closers to start 2023. And knowing over half will likely  lose their jobs, who should I focus on to stash?
Brad Johnson
1:24
I think the easiest approach to this is to focus on two-fireman bullpens. I mentioned Erik Swanson who's nearly as good as Jordan Romano. If you'll recall, Romano's had a couple minor forearm issues crop up over the years.
I've heard some chatter about Alzolay maybe closing for the Cubs
I think that's fanboy talk for now
The Phillies pen could break in any direction

A.J. Puk seems primed to oust Floro
A.J. Minter was better than Iglesias last season
1:26
Clay Holmes had health issues last season - hence my earlier reference to Loaisiga

14 team HtoH league with up to 3 keepers.  My only top 50 (according to my league rankings) offensive player is Machado (14).  My pitching was obviously my strong suit last year with Corbin Burnes (5), Scherzer (10), deGrom (17), and Rodon (21).   Burnes is a definite keeper.  The other three pitchers come with injury concerns but top 25 rankings, although some rankings have them in the 30-45 range.  In this league, you have to name your keepers prior to knowing draft position.  My plan is to keep Machado and Burnes, but I'm torn on the other three. Assuming no injury issues between now and the draft, what do you think?
Brad Johnson

My instinct is to go for deGrom. I perceive the health risks to be comparable (i.e. high). None of those choices is "wrong." Wonderful collection of arms.

I'm in a tradition 10-category, $260 payroll roto league, and can keep Bubba Thompson for $10. Will he get enough steals and runs to justify the $10?
Brad Johnson
1:28
Bubba's a $1 flier at best.
Unless you left out some very important details.
1:29
Set him free
Even in AL-Only, I wouldn't spend $10 on him

Hi, I’ve got both Leclerc & Domingo German at basically $1 each for this year in a 1-year AL keeper league; what kind of season do you see for both?
Brad Johnson
1:31
With Montas down, German has a good shot at the 5th starter slot. Last we saw of him, his velocity and stuff had backed up a bit. Assuming more health and a rebound in velo, he's a good $1 flier. That said, I'd take the shot on Leclerc since he's the closer for the moment.
He's an extreme fly ball, splitter guy so he tends to be more volatile than a typical closer

In NL 5x5 11 teams who are my two best final keepers? Finnegan 5, Phillips 1, Marsh 3, Villar 1 or Berti 1?
Brad Johnson
1:32
I'd go Marsh and Berti
Finnegan is tempting though if you need the saves
Marsh still has a walkable path to a breakout
Berti maybe won't play a ton early on, but we know he can win the SB category singlehandedly when he's a regular.

Hey Brad, glad to see these chats are back.  Who benefits the most from the shift rule and is that reflected in ADP?
Brad Johnson
1:34
I do think NFBC ADP reflects our best guesses of the no-shift. I think the effect will be small. If anything, it'll be most visible in fewer power-hitting second basemen.
But we won't feel that until 2024 or 2025
1:35
Think of it this way. You're running a team and you know it's possible to vacuum a bunch of outs from LHH with shifts. With the new rules, you position a shortstop behind second base and put a SS-caliber defender at 2B to achieve nearly the same thing.

What, in your opinion, are the 3 greatest positions of scarcity and in need of early drafting?
Brad Johnson
1:37
I don't perceive any areas of scarcity this season. Especially for 12-team and shallower. Getting one of the good 3B is nice. C and CL are always a trial. 1B plays a little top heavy and 2B/SS fall off a cliff after a deep top layer. Good SPs are still available after pick 200.

George Springer and Adolis Garcia seem to be the same player—decent BA, HRs, SBs. I have both, but can only keep one in my 5-5 roto league. Who's the better bet for this year, and who will go cheaper in auctions? Thanks
Brad Johnson
1:38
Hard questions to predict. Garcia's been going slightly earlier in NFBC, but I could see that being inversed on Yahoo/ESPN
1:41
Garcia's a better bet for swipes. Springer is a higher floor play imo. I'm pretty sure I'd pick Springer over Garcia for HR, AVG, and R+RBI. Comes down to your hunger for SB. I have no sense if Springer will run again. That was only the second time in his career he stole double-digits.

AL-only 10 teams. All must carry five starting pitchers (required 700 SP IP). Which top 50 pitchers are you most likely to stay away from. Assuming deGrom is one of them, would you take him as SP2 or SP3? Believe it or not, ERA is the only pitching category. The Bill James technical RCA is the only hitting category.
Brad Johnson
1:42
deGrom is SP 1 imo under those rules, but lemme try something to confirm.
1:44
Yea, I'm pretty confident he's SP1. He would need to fall below 150 IP before there's any question.
1:46
I'd avoid Chris Bassitt, Patrick Sandoval, basically anyone who looked like they overperformed last year.
Reminds me, I need to sell Bassitt in a dynasty!

Any prospects i should keep an eye out for in 24 team dynasty leagues?
