Firstly, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. How big of an adjustment was it to go from a week long homestand in Colorado, to playing somewhere closer to sea level, especially with such a physically demanding position as catcher?
AvatarMichael McKenry
11:03
Honestly going back home was sometime harder. I had a hard time adjusting to sleeping for some reason.
11:04
I focused more time on mobility and recovery.
I traveled with a Marc Pro and a Norma Tech

I know this isn’t a fun convo but since it’s already being whispered about…do you anticipate another lockout in 2026/27?
AvatarMichael McKenry

I have a hard time processing next week, but I pray no the game doesnt need it and the fans dont deserve it

What are your thoughts on the Foolish Baseball video that states you DID tag Julio Lugo in that infamous 19 inning Pirates - Braves game in 2011?
AvatarMichael McKenry
11:06
Great video if it said I did because I did and there was a formal apology by a great man and umpire Jerry Meals

Thankful for the lessons and growth that summer, and I had an awesome host family

What's the biggest change you have seen in developing players from when you were making your way to the majors compared to today?

More information and any player that wants to be good at this game can be if they are willing to be vulnerable and dive deep into what could be with an honest set of eyes, and put in the time to do so.
less opinions and more reality
11:12
The game changer is all how you present it as a coach, and how the player absorbs it. No matter what the player always needs to take ownership of their own career and take the time to understand what is being said by asking questions and seeking counsel. Blind trust will get you crushed if you are not careful

Good morning Michael-- Did you have a favorite stadium to play in, or a least favorite (whether due to location, facilities, or crowds)? As a fan, I absolutely loved visiting PNC, maybe my favorite.

PNC is Heavenly

Local question:  Do you see the Pirates making the playoffs with Bryan Reynolds still on the team or do you think ultimately that window will be after he is traded (assuming no extension which looks very unlikely)?
AvatarMichael McKenry
11:14
I think its a great group and they are going to be good for many years to come, and any team is better with a guy like reynolds, but if the pirates can get the loud of players they are seeking for him it will make the organization better

As a former Rockie, do you believe players in Colorado deserve less recognition for their accolades?
AvatarMichael McKenry
11:16
NO! Game is too hard no matter where you play. Also with the all the elements not talked about in Colorado in regards of recovery and such Im not sure how big of an advantage it is over a career.

I still don’t understand how Lugo was called safe in the 19th inning, you tagged him and he was clearly out. Did you ever get any further explanation on that?
AvatarMichael McKenry

Just a human mistake
