I think we should do everything to protect pitchers. Pitch counts in today's game are more focused on the data behind them.

As a pitcher, which stats did you think most fairly reflected your performance? Do you prefer FIP to ERA? Did you feel the rising emphasis on K rate was overblown, or perhaps you were coached to focus on missing bats/strikeouts?
Jacob Turner
10:21
It is hard to argue with some of the new data such as FIP. K rate is one of the things I struggled with in my career and something I worked to improve. It is such a key indicator of future success for pitchers IMO.

Jacob, what was your reaction to being traded the first time?
Jacob Turner
10:21
Shock and realizing the business side of professional sports.

With all the new advanced sabermetrics in today's game, how do pitchers manage to find a way to fix their game without jeopardizing their concentration in the game?
Jacob Turner
10:22
This is certainly a balance but you see how the top teams have made significant investments in player development to integrate the two. The Dodgers come to mind.

Jacob, thanks for the live chat! Who was the most difficult hitter you ever faced?
Jacob Turner
10:23
I have to say Albert Pujols. I grew up a fan of him in STL and he is 4-4 off me.

You said you were from St. Louis---assuming grew up a Cardinal fan.  How does a player "turn off" his fan side as he progresses through a career.  Did you ever find yourself looking at Cardinals scores when you were with a different team?
Jacob Turner
10:24
For me the "fan side" turned off rather quick. You realize the business of the sport and find yourself rooting for your team and your friends in the league.

Does signing a state like California or New York where the taxes are much higher play any role in a free agents decision to sign?
Jacob Turner
10:24
Certainly can be a major factor. Taxes are the largest lifetime expense for any athlete and need to be taken into account.

You were both a starter and reliever in your career - which one did you prefer, and how different was preparation for you (if at all) between the two roles?
Jacob Turner
10:25
I much preferred starting due to the known nature of it. Coming out of the bullpen you have to be ready at any moment.

Do you think young pitchers can have success getting shuffled between the bullpen and the rotation, or do they need to be given the opportunity to get established in one or the other?
Jacob Turner
10:26
You have seen some teams do this successfully, but it takes a unique pitcher to be able to navigate this.

Always wonder what it's like for a pitcher hitting against other MLB pitchers? More nervous hitting or pitching? Looks like you hit a triple in 2013 with the Marlins!
Jacob Turner
10:27
I grew up loving hitting but hitting at the MLB level is a different game. I love competing so always found it enjoyable to hit.
TRIPLE
10:28
Do you remember your only career triple?   Who was it off?  And was it a stand up triple or did you Pete Rose head first into the bag?
Jacob Turner
10:28
I remember almost falling down rounding second base. I believe it was off Paul Maholm.

Is there ever a disconnect/failure to relate amongst teammates given what can be massive salary differences?  Say between the top earners and the pre-arb guy fighting to hold onto the final roster spot?
Jacob Turner
10:29
While there might be a financial difference, one of the greatest parts of baseball is the team aspect. Everyone is pulling for each other.

Growing up were you a Cardinal or Royals fan?

What do you think about the pitch clock rule change?
Jacob Turner
10:30
I think it will ultimately be good for the sport. Some of the more veteran players will have to adapt but speeding up the game should help continue to keep viewership strong.

What pitches would you suggest developing in high school?
Jacob Turner
10:31
I would suggest developing arm strength, a routine, and learning how to compete. Those things matter far more than a single pitch.

What was your favorite part of Korea?
Jacob Turner
10:32
I enjoyed the atmosphere of the stadiums. The fans treat it vastly different than in the United States. It is much more a spectacle.

What was your experience like as a Top Prospect? What do you think of today’s prospect meta?
Jacob Turner
10:33
I came up in the time that it was really the "rise of the prospect." In today's game kids are hyped for so long and I encourage prospects to keep their head down as much as they can.
Walton Dilcox
10:33
Sounds crazy but I remember you being drafted pretty dang vividly. Any thoughts on today’s capped draft?
Jacob Turner
10:33
I believe in free markets and think players should get paid what they are worth. The cap system in the draft benefits teams but limits players.

10:34
What’s different about today’s player/fan relationship vs when you were young?
Jacob Turner
10:35
Many players today struggle with this relationship due to overzealous Autographer seekers. I would love to see a way for more young fans get up close interactions with players at the ballpark.

You created Sudden Wealth with the perspective of lived experience.  Even so, was there something that surprised you once you started working with clients?  Something that wasn't on your radar that became a priority?
Jacob Turner
10:36
For me it is a way for me to combine my passion for personal finance and athletes. It is hard to make money in professional sports and my goal is to educate athletes around the money they earn.

Jacob, what was your favorite pre game meal?
