Look at This! I lived on the 8th Floor of High Rise. Major Leaguer Rex Brothers, college teammate of mine, shot an orange thru my double paned glass widow almost killing me! Oh the College days!

Can you tell is of any team that has been in contact for your services
Caleb Joseph

The 5 Holes of the Beer League at Centennial Sportsplex is on me hard right now.

Thanks for doing this chat. I am kind of leery about asking this question even as a lifelong Royals fan, but here goes. What was the clubhouse reaction in Baltimore to JG’s “These O’s Ain’t Royal” shirt during the 2014 ALCS? Usually those kinds of jibes backfire.
Caleb Joseph
4:31
I never knew they made a shirt. Sometimes what's news to people isn't news to the players. But there's time for "bulletin board" material... But it seemed to work, we were 4 and done.

Do you want the DH in both leagues?  What do you think about the extra innings rules?
Caleb Joseph
4:32
Good questions. I do like the DH just because its easier to prepare as a catcher.. but the "purist" in me likes NL rules. The extra inning rule really saves bullpen guys, so I wish the game could just end in 9 but 11 is better than 17.

Would you like to coach one day?
Caleb Joseph
4:33
Sure. I think I'd enjoy it very much!

Hey, you had a nice bounceback season in 2017.
Caleb Joseph
4:33
I'm sort an "every other year" type of hitter.
Hank

Who is your favorite catcher amongst the Hall of Famers?
Caleb Joseph
4:33
Lots of good ones. Probably Bench.

You came up as a bat first prospect with the O's and have been cited for a quote to the effect of "I'm more interested in the unknowns of a player than the knowns".  What was one of the biggest unknowns you discovered about your game when you transitioned from the minors to the bigs?
Caleb Joseph
4:34
Which hitters "thought" with you as a catcher inside the sequences of pitches and which hitters didn't... those were tough learning experiences.

Is catcher the hardest position
Caleb Joseph
4:35
Most physically demanding.
Pascal
4:35
What is the hardest thing about catching?
Caleb Joseph
4:36
Dealing with 13 different personalities! It's like being a therapist everyday! It's hard but incredibly rewarding. If you put in the time and effort and gain their trust, it is SO rewarding to watch them grow and succeed!
Billy
4:36
Can you pitch decently?  How often do catchers work on their throwing in addition to the caught stealing drills?
Caleb Joseph
4:36
I have a 0.00ERA in the big leagues, I'd say that's elite.
Bill

Favorite Boog Powell moment/story?
Caleb Joseph
4:37
He was always in the clubhouse, such a Giant of a man! Really remember shaking his hand for the first time, I shook about 3 fingers and he shook my entire hand, wrists and forearm.

Did you cross paths with Buck Britton? Heir-apparent to the Baltimore manager position, as local media likes to cast him?
Caleb Joseph
4:38
Played with Buck for many years. He really should have made it as a player. Versitle, had power from the left side, high baseball IQ. Looks like he's on his way up. Happy for him, a great guy!

Thanks for being a great O? I loved your reaction when the pitcher got ejected in Boston years ago.

What was playing in Buffalo like?
Caleb Joseph
4:40
The city of Buffalo and the Jays did an amazing job getting the field and atmosphere as best as they could. I talked to guys and none of them complained. Credit to both organization that did a great job in the middle of impossible situations!

What stands out to you about your time in the minors? Would you like to see improvements down there? If so, what’s an example or two? Or do you feel the league and players’ Union don’t really need to take too much action there? Rite of passage situation? You’ve always seemed like one of the more cerebral catchers out there when I’ve watched you! Thanks for chatting
