Do you think the braves will make a splash in free agency over the winter to grab a starting pitcher like Darvish?
Steve Adams
4:23
Hasn't really been Coppy's MO to date, though I suppose to be fair, we've yet to see him act as a contender. I'd bet more on the Braves spending on a position player, either in the outfield, at catcher or at third base, however. They seem to be hoping that most of their rotation can come from the farm system, and even if that's not the case a trade for a more established starter has been the route Coppolella has preferred in recent years (even if he's yet to actually land an Archer or a Quintana)
Better OF?
4:23
Think Bud Norris sticks at closer for the Angels when Cam gets back?? Who saw that coming?!?
Steve Adams
4:23
I don't see how or why they'd remove him from the role right now
Plus, hey, fewer saves for Bedrosian means a more modest price tag in arbitration.

Does the NL have the DH prior to the 2020 season?
Steve Adams
4:24
I don't believe so

Trey Mancini is now hitting right-handers (.320) at a better clip than lefties (.283) and decently at both, with power (slugging .563). And, his defense has at least been better than Kim, the player he is primarily replacing. Given that he's a rookie and this is a SSS, with more time as a regular left fielder, can he become a decent starter.
Steve Adams
4:26
He's still striking out in nearly a third of his plate appearances and sporting a crazy-high average on balls in play. And while I haven't seen him play in the OF much, I did see him turn a catchable ball into an RBI double for Joe Mauer last night.

I'm not really sold on Mancini yet.

Who do the Astros need to get before the deadline to have a releastic shot of winning it all?
Steve Adams
4:27
They have a realistic shot at winning it all with the team they have right now. They have the best record in baseball and the second-best run differential
who's on first?
4:27
first shiny new prospect to be called up by white sox?
Steve Adams
4:28
Moncada or Reynaldo Lopez... I'm going to bet on Moncada between the two, though. (Assuming his current thumb injury is nothing serious of course)
Totally Chipper Jones
4:28
Am I first ballot material?
Steve Adams
4:31
If Chipper isn't a first ballot Hall of Famer then we may as well not even have a Hall of Fame. He should be unanimous -- though I'm sure it'll be the same old refrain and a small handful people will refuse to vote for him for some asinine reason... claiming the Braves didn't win enough rings or no one's worthy of unanimous selection, etc.

Have you ever noticed that the longer these chats go on, the shorter the responses?
Steve Adams
4:31
FALSE
Heh. I do tend to grab some quicker ones once I realize I've spent a large amount of time on a few questions yeah.

Is tom koehler on trade block
Steve Adams
4:32
Doubt anyone's going to give much up for him. He's a fourth/fifth starter with a fairly sizable salary ($5.75MM) that is in the midst of the worst season of his career.

Will the orioles go for any starting pitchers before the deadline? Bundy seems to be the only consistent SP
Steve Adams
4:34
They might, but it's the same story as always there. The team has a crappy farm system due to signing QO free agents and bizarrely showing a complete and utter aversion to spending any actual money on international amateurs.

Do you think Edgar Martinez make it to the Hall Of Fame?
Steve Adams
4:34
He should be in already. I don't know that he'll get in, but I certainly hope he does.

give how bad tanka has benn does he opt in instead of out of his deal
Steve Adams
4:35
Still four-plus months of the season left. If it ended today, he probably stays in New York, but with a strong 3-4 months to close out the year, he'd still opt out.

I got stiffed by the Braves, when they traded for Patch Adams. Who else could use me?
Steve Adams
4:38
I'm sure they were up front with him and his agents and said "Hey we're trying to make a trade right now, but we'd love to have you a minor league deal. If we pull something off, we'll grant you your release" -- and the latter scenario obviously played out.

I don't know that tons of clubs are looking at 1B help, but the Yankees, Mariners and Phillies come to mind as a few teams that haven't gotten much help from their first basemen
Could also just wait to see if another injury pops up, though he may not want to sit at home too long waiting for that to happen

How much, if at all, does Trout's OBP get inflated by the weak offense around him? Theoretically, wouldn't his OBP be lower if he wasn't pitched around as often?
Steve Adams
4:40
I don't know that I buy into that notion. If he weren't pitched around as often, he'd just have more hittable pitches to work with.

Trout's walk rate is largely a function of his eye at the plate. He's chasing 21.6% of out-of-zone pitches this season, which is about eight percent better than the league average and 11th best in all of baseball. He puts himself in a lot of favorable counts.

With Harper signing an extension, how does this affect Machado?
Steve Adams
4:41
He didn't really sign much of an extension. They basically just decided not to wait until the offseason to mess with avoiding arbitration. The Nats didn't get any extra team control over Harper, and I don't think the one-year deal impacts Machado at alll
Alex
4:41
What would a Yelich trade look like?
Steve Adams
4:42
Even if the Marlins sell, I think they'd make Yelich and Realmuto untouchable
Casey
4:42
Is there any way Cueto doesn't opt out?
Steve Adams
4:42
Sure. If he's still running an upper-4.00s ERA with diminished control come October, or if he gets hurt.
Mike

Do you like the Fedde to the bullpen move from the Nats?
