Some scouting reports peg him as a reliever anyhow. But even if he's a starter long term, it makes sense. Limit his innings this year, fast-track his road to the Majors and put him in a position to help address the team's biggest need.

If Lamet does well is Weaver finished once he is off the "DL"?
Steve Adams
4:44
The Padres' owner basically put Weaver on notice, and he had one decent start before turning in maybe his worst yet as a Padre. I don't think he's going to make it to the All-Star break with San Diego, unless he's still on their DL

Free Agent pitchers is a total waste of money, agree or disagree?
Steve Adams
4:45
The majority of starting pitching contracts end up as bad deals, yeah, but there are still some good free-agent pitching pickups. Generally speaking, most major free agent deals ultimately end up as albatrosses.

I hate the intentional walk crap. It doesn't save THAT much time, and takes away from the rare times a pitcher screws it up. Your thoughts
Steve Adams
4:46
Don't mind it whatsoever, though it's silly to do it in the name of "pace of play" when it shaves like 30 seconds off a game, and most games don't even have an IBB.
Tebowtime
4:48
Are you about giving him a shot? Or more of a he takes a spot away from a "legit" player?
Steve Adams
4:49
I was fine with signing him, but the $100K bonus seemed unnecessary, and bringing him to MLB camp in place of someone actually deserving of a look was stupid.
Casey

Are the giants doing last year in reverse? Are they a playoff team?
Steve Adams
4:49
I don't think they're a playoff team, and I don't think it's especially close.
Michael
4:50
Any chance the Braves try to deal Motte before his peripheral stats catch up to him?
Steve Adams
4:51
That assumes that the team he's being traded to isn't fully aware that his peripherals are rather "meh" and would be judging him mostly on his ERA, which isn't the case.

If someone's willing to give up anything of marginal value, though, the Braves showed last year that they'll move pieces earlier than most teams.

Would promoting Tebow in September be the most embarrassing call-up ever?
Steve Adams
4:52
He should be nowhere near the 40-man roster
Adam
4:53
Brewers over or under 80 wins this year?
Steve Adams
4:53
At this point they could close out the year 55-63 and still win 80 games, so I'll give them 80+, sure
