Huh -- interesting. It's probably just some small sample noise. Quick look at his splits shows he's making more hard contact against lefties in his career than righties... just doesn't have much to show for it. A .170 BABIP against lefties seems likely to rebound pretty substantially, though, and he's K'ed at an 8.8% clip vs lefties, which is awesome

Wouldn't Josh Donaldson make sense for the Mets?? Would they have what is needed to acquire him without giving up Rosario?
Steve Adams
3:32
The Jays are 26-19 after a 2-11 start and are nearly back to full strength in their rotation and in their lineup. I don't expect them to trade Donaldson or act as selllers. I buy the Jays as a more realistic contender than I do the Mets at this point

Could Cubs send Schwarber to Texas/A's in package for Darvish/Gray?
Steve Adams
3:33
They wouldn't trade him for Miller last year, and I don't think their view of him has changed even with this year's struggles. Definitely wouldn't deal him for a Darvish rental, and I don' think they'd do so for Gray, either, given his inconsistent results

What are the odds that J-Up opts out? Do the Tigers want J-Up to opt out?
Steve Adams
3:33
The Tigers absolutely hope that he opts out.
3:35
I think he'll need a pretty significant finish to the season to do so. He's been very good thus far and will need to continue or pick up the pace.... the market for corner bats last year wasn't great, and he doesn't have the benefit of being two years younger than most of his competition this time around. I do think there's a chance he opts out, but any prolonged slump between now and September would be tough for him

Correa the front runner for AL MVP now with Trout on the DL?
Steve Adams
3:37
I don't know that there's any one front-runner at this point. Trout's basically always the front-runner when he's healthy since he's leaps and bounds better than everyone else. Right now, sure Correa is in the mix but so is his own teammate (Altuve) as well as guys like Betts, Judge, Lindor
3:38
Sano, too, if the season ended right now, but his K% and ludicrous BABIP say he's not going to maintain this level of output

Is Sonny Gray a realistic deadline target or does it make more sense for the A's to let him rehab his value over the 2nd half of the season?
Steve Adams
3:39
There's enough time left that if he rattles off 6-7 great starts in a row and convinces scouts that his stuff is back, the A's can land a haul for him.

If he's dealing and proves it over a month-plus, the remaining couple months aren't going to radically impact peoples' opinions of him. Not in my mind, anyhow.
3:40
Plus, if you wait till the offseason, he's only got 2 years of control as opposed to 2.5, and he could always get hurt again in August or September. If they're going to trade Gray, I say do it this summer so long as he looks healthy and his stuff is sharp.

Odds Smoak finishes better season than EE?
Steve Adams
3:42
Ha, that'd be a fun and unexpected development, but Edwin is never especially great in April. He's been quite a bit better over the past five weeks or so, and even though the uptick in K's is troublesome, I still would bet on him finishing out the year better than Smoak.

That said -- I don't think Smoak's performance is all smoke and mirrors (god, I just realized what I did there after I typed it, but I'm now leaving it anyway. I apologize.)

Do you think Austin Meadows will be called up soon with him doing so well in Triple A?
Steve Adams
3:44
He's basically had one good month and one bad month thus far. I think they'll prefer to see him keep this up a bit longer before bringing him up. If he keeps this up through late June, perhaps he gets a look, yeah.

M's turning things around enough to make the postseason?
Steve Adams
3:44
AL Wild Card is virtually anyone's for the taking. They're not catching the juggernaut Astros, but I wouldn't by any means count the Mariners out of a WC bid.

Was Willie McGee a top 388 player all time?
Steve Adams
3:45
I've got him 389th right now.

Any news on when Danny Duffy could return?
Steve Adams
3:46
It's 6-8 weeks -- same as it was when he was hurt. Sometime between the All-Star break and the trade deadline most likely.

3:47
Who do you see the Twins drafting first overall on Monday?
Steve Adams
3:48
Virtually all of the draft experts that are being paid to focus solely on questions like this right now are saying Kyle Wright of Vanderbilt. They dedicate way, way more time to the draft than I'm expected to for my job, so I defer to them.

Gerrit Cole and Tony Watson for Kyle Tucker, Francis Martes, David Paulino and AJ Reed. Who says no?
Steve Adams
3:50
I'm going to assume the Astros say no there just because that's more than they reportedly didn't want to give up for 4 years of Quintana this winter. I also just don't think Tony Watson is that great, though I'm sure the Astros wouldn't mind adding him to the relief corps.

They've got SUCH a big lead that they're effectively already in the postseason, though, so at this point whatever additions they make are going to be more on their terms. They have the leverage of not really needing an upgrade to get into October.
Rangers put Napoli on DL, by the way. Just announced a short bit ago.

3:52
Justin Verlander or James Paxton ROS?
Steve Adams
3:52
Paxton. His health would be the one thing to give me pause, but he's been an absolute monster on the mound when healthy. I'm fully on board with him -- durability is the only question for me.
3:54
Oh, and to the two people who have copied/pasted their questions and submitted the same one like 70 times -- this software has a "block" button that is quite handy for preventing me from seeing any further questions from you. There are hundreds of people in here trying to get questions answered -- preventing me from seeing anyone else for a few seconds isn't exactly endearing.

Whats Timmy Lincecum been up to?
Steve Adams
3:55
Throwing near his home in (I believe) Washington state. If/when he decides he wants to make a comeback run, his agents will make it well known (as they did last time around)
Dustin Fowler
3:55
I just made MLB top 100, any chance i get called up this year? I've been raking since spring training!
Steve Adams
3:56
Yeah I think he could get a look this summer or at least in September. He's got to be added to the 40-man this offseason, unless I'm mistaken, so selecting his contract will happen sooner or later anyhow.
