I'm not buying Senzatela or Freeland, so I still think need some rotation help if they're to sustain this level of performance
Ian

Will we see Gleyber Torres before September? If so, do you think he could provide immediate value?
Steve Adams
3:59
Yeah I think he's up before September. Headley's struggled a fair amount lately.

Do you think Joe Ross can right the ship as a starter or is he headed for the bullpen?
Steve Adams
4:00
I still like him as a starter even though he's obviously prone to some struggles against lefties. Still young... time to work on the changeup, and the other pitches, control, velocity, ground-ball rate, etc. are all pretty encouraging. Making him a weapon out of the 'pen isn't a bad fallback option, but he should get a nice long leash as a starter in my eyes

Does Maeda and Toles get me Gray from Oakland?
Steve Adams
4:01
Toles is out for the season with a torn ACL, and Maeda isn't the type of guy the A's are going to be targeting for Gray. They'll want young, controllable pieces that haven't hit arbitration yet. And several of them.

Would Fowler and andjuar get the NYY Quintana?
Steve Adams

Nope

What can the Giants sell for value?
Steve Adams
4:02
Nunez, maybe Cueto, though the opt-out complicates things. There's not a ton to get excited about in terms of trade chips there among their short-term parts.
Ian
4:03
I know they're totally on it right now, but if the Orioles fall out of contention, is Machado more likely to get traded or extended?
Steve Adams
4:04
I don't think they'd trade him, but I see an extension as virtually impossible unless the O's want to offer $350MM+, so I guess the slim chance of a trade is technically likelier than the near-nonexistent chance of an extension.

Are pitchers figuring Cody Bellinger out? If so, should the Dodgers reconsider not sending him back to Triple A? That strikeout rate is becoming Gallo-esque.
Steve Adams
4:06
To some extent, probably, but like so many insanely hot starts, that type of production just wasn't sustainable. There's always some level of ebb and flow -- some of this is probably pitchers knowing how to approach him more effectively, some is probably a young guy pressing, and some is just some natural regression.

I do think they'll be open to optioning him back to Triple-A if they feel he's struggling in the Majors to the point that it's a detriment to his future.

Andrew McCutchen to the Cards for prospects?
Steve Adams
4:09
Trading him within the division doesn't strike me as likely for the PIrates. There's also little evidence that he'd even be an upgrade for them. I know he's been hot for a couple of weeks, but he mediocre to terrible for the preceding eight months of regular-season ball

Can the Astros option Nori Aoki to bring up Derek Fisher? I don't think another team would claim him with his salary.
Steve Adams
4:10
They can't option him, no. They could designate him for assignment and place him on outright waivers, but he'd have the option of taking free agency and still keeping the remainder of his salary upon clearing, as a player with 5+ years of MLB service time

Am I ever going to see the field this year?
Steve Adams
4:12
Based on the most recent update on him, I think it's safe to say that even the Rockies don't know the answer to that question. I hope so -- he's fun to watch -- but I wouldn't bank on it at this point.
4:13
If so, it'll be for less than two months at this point, I'd imagine. He's going to need a month-plus just to get back up to speed once he's cleared to even begin baseball activities again, and that may well be a ways off.

What do I do with Johnny Peralta? Can't play him.....but I'll have to pay him. Can I find a taker?
Steve Adams
4:14
I doubt it. At a certain point you just cut him loose.

I saw who you mentioned as MVP options now that Trout is out, you failed to mention Judge as an option

"Right now, sure Correa is in the mix but so is his own teammate (Altuve) as well as guys like Betts, Judge, Lindor"

Ok -- I've got to take off. Thanks for chatting, as always. Jason chats tomorrow night at 6:30pm CT. Jeff's on vacation this week, so I'll see about Jason or myself doing a second chat to make up for his absence. Enjoy the rest of your week!
