Is Lance Lynn worth more than the return Atlanta got for Jamie Garcia, or about the same?
Steve Adams
3:31
I think he's a slightly better pitcher and he's making $4.5MM less than Garcia, so I'd say he's worth a bit more. But I don't think he's going to command a huge return or anything. Cardinals could eat the remainder of the salary to increase the return. Braves elected not to go that route.

deGrom for Bregman, Martes and Tucker. Who says no?

Thoughts on the O'Neill/Gonzales swap?
Steve Adams
3:33
Pretty rare to see two guys that aren't remotely established swapped like that. I know O'Neill was somewhat of a divisive prospect, though, and he's struggled this year while other Mariners OFs have looked extremely impressive (Gamel and Haniger). I don't really mind the concept of it from the Mariners' end, but I'm always wary of deals that center on only one pitching prospect. And Gonzales has already had injury troubles. I'd have liked to see Seattle get another piece in there to spread out some of the risk

Is Houston still looking for a starter or have they backed off?
Steve Adams
3:35
They're still looking for a starter but I don't think they're at all closed off to the idea of beefing up the 'pen or even upgrading the bench in some capacity (better OF option than Aoki?)... Luhnow's going to look to find value even if it's not in an obvious spot. Astros signed Gurriel last year when they had no clear need for an infielder, for instance.

What do you think the Royals are doing with Hoz,Moose, and Cain??
Steve Adams
3:35
They're hanging onto all three and giving each a qualifying offer/collecting a draft pick when they sign elsewhere this winter.

If Salazar is healthy can the Tribe ride the three horses down the stretch and hold off the other contending teams?
Steve Adams
3:37
Still think they need to add another back-of-the-rotation option. Tomlin and Bauer have been bad, Clevinger is a regression candidate and is going to be in uncharted waters in terms of innings count if he sticks in the rotation the rest of the way

Is Reed the most prospect expensive rp on the market, even considering Baltimore's pitchers. He's just been so good in every role.
Steve Adams
3:37
Nah, he's a free agent at season's end which matters more than his success. Britton, Justin Wilson and Raisel Iglesias (if you count him among "available" RPs) all have more value, for instance.
Hand too

Can the M's put together a competitive package w/o Lewis to get Sonny Gray?
Steve Adams
3:38
Competitive maybe, but the system is light on top-tier prospects so I have a hard time seeing them making a winning bid without him included.

Who do you think will make more in free agency, Bryce Harper or Manny Machado?
Steve Adams
3:39
Right now I'd say Harper, obviously, with Harper playing so well and Machado struggling. Before the season I'd have given Machado much more of a chance. The reality is that their play over the next 15 months is going to determine that. Advantage Bryce right now.

The Royals made out pretty good on the Padres deal also..They got 3 serviceable pitchers!!
Steve Adams
3:41
Yeah I didn't mean to suggest before, when talking about the Padres' end of the deal, that the Royals made a bad swap or anything. Cahill was easily the best rental pitcher available, and Maurer is a significant rebound candidate. Buchter has 4.5 years of control left. It was a nice trio to add.
Francisco Liriano

Does anyone want to trade for me?
Steve Adams
3:42
As I said in this morning's SP trade market post, I doubt anyone's anxious to plug him into a contending rotation, but I don't mind the idea of putting him in the bullpen, letting his velo play up and using him to obliterate opposing left-handed bats.
Cardinals put Fowler on the DL and called up Harrison Bader, one of their better-ranked prospects
Angels

Buy, Sell, or stand pat.  Option one is not likely
Steve Adams
3:44
They're right in the middle... I genuinely believe reports that say their play in the next few days will determine the outcome. I don't think they're going to be aggressive buyers either way... if they lose 3-4 games in the next 5 days, I won't be surprised to see Norris, Petit, David Hernandez and/or Yunel on the move.
3:46
Conversely, if they're in it, they can probably afford to do something more minor like pick up a Lance Lynn or a Miguel Gonzalez to try to shore up the rotation on the cheap. It's realistic that they could do both of those things, even, assuming they can get some kind of long-term value back for Norris at the very least.

Really think the Royals don't sign any other their free agents??
Steve Adams
3:46
They could sign one of the three, but I don't think they'll retain two and certainly not three of Moose, Hosmer and Cain.

Is Avila a lock to go to the Cubs?
Steve Adams
3:47
Not a lock, no, but my bet is that said move happens eventually.

How about Lynn, Diaz, and Oh for Bregman and Davis?
Steve Adams
3:47
I would struggle to find a deal more lopsided in favor of St. Louis. :)

3:48
Is Candelario enough of a headliner to get Gray to the Cub?
Steve Adams
3:48
I don't think so, no. I'd imagine the A's would want Ian Happ as the centerpiece, with the plan of playing him regularly in an outfield corner. (And, of course, 2-3 other pieces after Happ)

3:49
what is the next move for the pads
Steve Adams
3:50
Have to imagine it's dealing Hand, though Chacin has pitched reasonably well and could garner some interest as a fifth starter somewhere. Wouldn't expect a great return, though maybe Preller could try to package him and Hand somewhere (Milwaukee) like he did with Cahill, Maurer, Buchter. Speculation there -- to be clear.

3:50
What moves do you see the Tigers making?
Steve Adams
3:51
Trading Avila and Justin Wilson -- dancing around a Verlander deal and probably leaking out all kinds of info to help drum up interest, ha, but ultimately hanging onto him
Matt

Do the Pirates make any moves?
