I can see them adding some kind of low-cost rotation rental and also trading Watson to a contender outside of the NL Central. He has some value and their alternative is to lose him for nothing. Maybe that's more OK to them than losing Melancon would've been -- Melancon returned Rivero, while Watson's value is nowhere near that high -- but I think they'll certainly listen to offers on Watson.

What real moves appear on the horizon for the mets?
Steve Adams
3:54
Trading Reed, Asdrubal and maybe 1-2 of Duda, Grandy, Bruce. I think they should shop Blevins and actually at least listen on deGrom, but neither (especially the latter) seems especially likely.

Darvish to LA for Verdugo, Y. Alvarez, B. Stewart, M. White, who says no?
Steve Adams
3:54
I don't think the Dodgers part with that much for a rental
FeartheBeerd
3:55
Brewers trade Brinson and Dubon for Gray
Steve Adams
3:55
It's a reasonable start to the package but I assume Oakland would try to get a third piece involved there
travis
3:56
Would AJ Reed be a big trade chip in a deal for Sonny Gray if the A's decide to move Alonso?
Steve Adams
3:56
I could see him being in there, sure, but he's lost a lot of shine over the past year plus. He wouldn't be the focal point, anyway.

3:56
Twins deadline plan?
Steve Adams
3:57
Add another so-so bullpen piece and cross their fingers for the rest of the season? Ha. I don't think they're going to do anything drastic.
Matt
3:57
Why do I keep hearing the Braves come up in Gray rumors?
Steve Adams
3:58
They've been trying to find a guy they can control for a few years since the offseason. I expect Atlanta to head into 2018 with an eye toward genuinely contending for the NL East.

Do you believe the Cardinals make an impactful trade or try and wait until the off season?
Steve Adams
3:59
I don't think the long-term, middle-of-the-order bat they covet is really going to be there for them, so I expect it to be more of an offseason pursuit.

Any chance Wil Myers gets traded? Hot recently but makes a litttle more than a team like the Padres should be paying a 1B
Steve Adams
4:00
I'm sure Preller wouldn't completely ignore calls on Myers but no I don't think he goes anywhere
Kevin
4:00
Anything on the Indians?
Steve Adams
4:01
Still need a back-of-the-rotation arm, might get some kind of corner bat -- I don't think they're going to go crazy but they'll make at least one addition to help separate themselves from the pack

What would it me to acquire Matt Moore?
Steve Adams
4:02
Not much at all. Moore has been a disaster all season and has regressed in virtually every meaningful category.
Michael
4:02
Are the Dbacks doing anything else besides Martinez?
Steve Adams
4:02
I think they'll be connected to a number of relievers over the next six days but JDM was the big ticket item obviously
Thomas DON'T UNDERSTAND
4:03
Lance Lynn is a very good pitcher with playoff and World Series experience & will be a free agent after the season. Yu Darvish is also a very good pitcher, has less playoff and World Series experience & will be a free agent after this season. SO WHY will Lynn only bring a mid-range prospect in a trade and Darvish will get you 3 to 4 of some teams best prospects? I do not understand the difference?
Steve Adams
4:04
Lynn, at one point, was a very good pitcher. This year he's an OK pitcher with a good ERA that is pitching with diminished velocity and a sky-high home run rate. He's skating by with one of the lowest BABIPs in baseball and one of the highest strand rates among qualified pitchers. Teams are going to recognize that and probably several other red flags about him.

And even at his best, Lynn isn't as good as Darvish

Is rendon an MVP candidate
Steve Adams
4:05
He should get some votes but I can also think of two guys on his own team that I'd put ahead of him (Harper, Scherzer)

4:05
How is Cahill a better rental than Lynn?  Lynn has better numbers that are consistent with his career numbers. Seems like you are undervaluing Lynn considerably.
Steve Adams
4:07
Cahill is making 1.75MM and has broken out with a massive uptick in strikeouts while maintaining his typically elite ground-ball rate. Lynn, as noted before, has had gobs and gobs of BABIP and strand rate luck. The only advantages he has over Cahill are his walk rate and his ERA, and I don't put much stock in the latter since it's all but certain to regress

This chat is a joke.  Cherry picking cardinal, tigers, pirate questions is laughable.  All know baseball isn't anything without AL East.  Get to some real info pls.

SORRY EVERYONE

can i get anything for duda?   hes not that bad.
Steve Adams
4:08
He's better than "not that bad." He's quite good. There just aren't many clubs outside of the Yankees looking for a first baseman, which makes it difficult. He should have some value but it's also a buyers' market for 1B/DH types.

Estevan Florial and Mateo for Gray?
Steve Adams
4:08
Don't think that gets it

Is Altuve approaching Trout level?
Steve Adams
4:08
No one is on Trout's level, but Altuve is still elite
Cashner Rental
4:09
Sorry but for my money Cashner is a better rental than Lynn or Cahill or any of these other names you bring up. I get his peripheral numbers arent very promising but the dude gets outs. Plus he's been through the trade deadline thing before. Plus I have inside info that he likes texas a ton. Couldn't stand Miami. And no chance he'd do well for the yanks. Not his type of atmosphere. Hello HOUSTON!!!
Steve Adams
4:10
Cashner has walked almost as many batters as he's struck out this season while earning $10MM with an injury history that rivals Santa's "naughty/nice" list. I don't think he has much trade value at all. Agree to disagree, I suppose.
