I think teams are getting smarter and realizing that long term deals rarely work out, plus can hamper their future for years to come.

They all just decided to stop paying $10-12MM per win on the free agent market.  I'm not sure smart is the word.  They've never actually wanted to do the 10-year monster deals, they just had to in the past because there was enough interest in those players to drive the market there.

I have an eye problem...I just can't see going in to work today. :-)

Do I actually help win more games than any other free agent left?  I think Incan go for 40 saves this year.

Reliever WAR is kind of weird - they seem like they never get more than 1-2 WAR projections, though it does seem like a strong year from Kimbrel would add more wins than that.
That said - Kimbrel can't add 4-5 wins and Harper/Machado are expected to.

You projected 5/70. That still your prediction?
Tim Dierkes

4/70 actually, but no, I'm definitely taking the under on that.  I think he's under 40 mil one way or another.

If the league wants to create more demand for the players why dont they just add 2 new teams it would get rid of the filthy inter league games and create a ton more demand for talented players.

I think they'll expand eventually, but nobody's going to games in Florida and several other teams have real attendance problems.  So MLB needs to sort some things out and determine if certain existing teams are viable first.  Stadium situations and such.  Plus, what happens if teams #31 and 32 begin with a nice three-year tanking effort?  That's the most likely scenario for a new franchise after all.

Huh - I guess Bryce and I are both Millennials, technically!
11:08
I am an Old Millennial, though, and he is a Young Millennial.  Trust me, there's a difference.  Like, I remember when there wasn't really an internet.  I didn't own a cell phone in college.  I feel like our ten-year age difference spanned a critical period.

What right do the players have to strike? Because there aren't more teams vying for their services and they aren't offering enough? Boo hoo
Tim Dierkes
11:11
Well, I'm glad they have the right to strike!  That's what good unions are for.  But your stance is the prevailing fan stance.  I ran this poll a year ago:
11:14
73.6% of MLBTR readers at that time thought MLB players were overpaid.  I see it this way: less money to the players equals more money to the owners.  But the idea of rich people going on strike because they feel they should be richer - that rubs most people the wrong way and I'm conscious of that.  I'm hopeful both sides can come to the table THIS YEAR and figure out what needs to change to avoid a work stoppage.
