Kimbrel to braves 2 yr 42 mil. Who says no?
Tim Dierkes
2:43
Definitely the Braves.
Castellanos
2:44
Could you see a trade and extension for me with SF?  What kind of contract would I get?
Tim Dierkes
2:44
I have Castellanos getting a four-year, $68MM deal in free agency.  But if I was the Giants I would not be trying to acquire a player like him, without a real defensive position.

Do you see a scenario where King Felix is traded or released?
Tim Dierkes
2:47
There would be no trade interest in a 4.75 ERA guy with a $27MM salary.  He'll be 33 in April, so he's not ancient.  As bad as the PR would be, if Felix makes, say, 15 starts with an ERA over 6, the Mariners would have to look at putting him in the bullpen or releasing him if he refused.  You hate to see an ugly end to the tenure of a player who's been so important to the franchise.
Red Sox
2:47
It took us going over the luxury tax to win the World Series, so why are so hesitant to do it again if it means winning again?
Tim Dierkes
2:49
Certainly with teams like the Red Sox and Cubs, where they are built to win and 2019 is very important, there's a sense of "Why pump the brakes now??"  That's my general feeling here.  I get that signing a Kimbrel for $18MM would be like paying him $25MM (or whatever), but these franchises can easily do a reset in a few years and spend much less money.

Here's a scoop, Tim. I'm going to sign Kimbrel with our "Harper money" and trade him (and Will Smith and Tony Watson) at the deadline for prospects.
Tim Dierkes
2:50
(Giants GM).  Wow, that seems like kind of a dumb strategy, signing a reliever to a historically large salary, automatically limiting his market to a handful of teams, while hoping his first 25 innings are much better than his last 25 and you can trade him for a prospect that's worth $9-10MM or more.

Gio to the White Sox.  Third time's the charm.
Tim Dierkes
2:52
It would kind of fit in with their offseason.  I'm picturing the marketing materials...some kind of gritty image of Alonso pointing at a WS trophy...OVER YONDER.

Okay, so here's a fantasy question about the unsigned free agents.  How do you think I should treat Keuchel and Kimbrel?  Should I assume that they will both be signed?  If so, will they play for contenders or bad teams?  Will they be ready for Opening Day, or should I assume a May start?  Will either of them sit out until after the June draft?
Tim Dierkes
2:53
I would look for about a 30-40% discount in draft round or auction price, and assume they play 90% of the season for contending teams.  Arrieta signed late last year and kind of made his first full start for the Phillies on April 14.

I just read this in an article about Byron Buxton's offseason regimen: "He would wake early, eat two 8-ounce steaks and a dozen eggs, work out, then repeat the meal. He consumed 10,000 calories a day"...will this help him against breaking balls?
Tim Dierkes
2:54
I lean toward no.  I'm closing in on 10K calories/day, mostly Robin's Eggs and Taco Bell, and I still have trouble with the curve.

Would Kimbrel go to LAD if he knows he won't be the closer?
Tim Dierkes
2:55
Offers being equal, he'd choose a closing job.  But maybe the Dodgers offer the most, or maybe he looks at Kenley right now and feels there's a chance he would become the closer anyway.

Who are your favorite value picks in fantasy (would take 15+ picks ahead of current ADV)?
Tim Dierkes
2:57
Joe Musgrove, Danny Jansen, Brian Dozier, Gregory Polanco for stashing, Profar, Voit, Pablo Lopez, and Shane Bieber are some decent sleeper picks.

Keeper league question - I'm leaning toward keeping Acuna, Baez and Rizzo, and letting Kershaw and Rendon go back into the draft.  I don't trust Kershaw's back, and I like Baez's position flexibility.  Am I wrong?
Tim Dierkes
2:58
You have to keep Acuna and Baez, so it's Rizzo vs Rendon.  Pretty much a tossup.

Saw you have Diaz as out of options. But roster resource tells me he has 1 option. Who should I trust?
Tim Dierkes

Jason is awesome, but...I think we're correct on this.

Why are you taking 90% Kimbrel questions? It’s obvious we don’t know much about his market, his though process, or exactly where he’s going. There are so many other FAs out there too! What about them?
Tim Dierkes
This list speaks for itself.  Keuchel and Kimbrel are the two remaining difference-makers.
NL Central

Are you as high on the Cardinals as your colleague Mark Polischuk? He has them winning the Central.
Tim Dierkes

I think the Cubs and Cards are pretty much even.  So Mark's pick seems reasonable.

I reviewed the list and the big question is where is Edwin Jackson going to go

Who are your "do not draft no matter what" fantasy players?
Tim Dierkes
3:03
I don't think I will end up with Carlos Correa, Corey Seager, Matt Carpenter, Josh Donaldson, or Clayton Kershaw in any leagues this year.  I just don't like the price relative to the risk/performance.
Thanks for chatting everyone, catch you next week!
