My owner says he has no money but I have no bullpen. What should I do?
Tim Dierkes
2:29
Continue fishing around for diamonds in the rough.  It would be nice if the Cubs actually developed some useful relievers from their own system.

If you were forced to pick one prospect in the entire game to make Cooperstown, who’d it be?
Tim Dierkes

What do you think Christian Yelich signs for if her were, hypotethically speaking, a free agent as of this fall?
Tim Dierkes
2:31
Basically the Arenado deal, which is 7/234.

Do you think that the promotion of Tatis and Jimenez also carry significant risks that the Blue Jays are trying to avoid with Vladdy?  I think it's highly possible that Tatis and Eloy get chewed up by big league pitching while Vlad flourishes in AAA to emerge confidently into a star role over the other two...
Tim Dierkes
2:32
No, because MLB promotions aren't permanent.  If Tatis or Jimenez is terrible for two months, their teams can and will send them down for more seasoning.  I think the Tatis promotion is fantastic for Padres fans and MLB fans in general.

Do you subscribe to the Dodgers philosophy of make the post season and see what happens?  They never seem to just go for it.  Always an impact player away - when does near misses get old?
Tim Dierkes
2:33
To really answer this, I'd have to put myself in the shoes of a billionaire baseball team owner.  Would I just go for broke, Steinbrenner/Illitch style?  I'd like to think so, but we basically don't see that anymore.

The Cardinals look like the bad news bears this year. I know it's early, but Wainwright was terrible today, for the third year in a row, Wacha wasn't great, Mikolas wasn't great. On and on, should they call Keuchel? I don't want to give the guy 100 years but come on. They had more wrong than just Goldy can fix.
Tim Dierkes
2:35
Keuchel is clearly better than Wainwright or Dakota Hudson.  Keuchel makes sense for the Cards.
Wheelin' and Dealin' Dipoto
2:35
Should we sign Keuchel and surprise the league by making more of an effort to compete? I am a bit of a wild card, after all.
Tim Dierkes
2:36
I think some fans might be surprised by the number of possibilities all GMs consider.  If you told me that Dipoto checked in on Keuchel just in the name of covering his bases, I could see that.  Still an odd fit though.

Which of the unsigned pitchers whose last names DON'T begin with "K" are the most likely to get signed soon?

Whats your thoughts on pete alonso after the first series?
Tim Dierkes

.330 OBP, 30 HR type guy.

How much worse does the Hosmer deal look now with many FA getting significantly lower contracts?
Tim Dierkes
2:39
Looked questionable before the ink was dry, but yes, tying yourself to an OK 1B for eight years when you have somewhat limited resources is quite bad.

Why are baseball fans so emotional after less than 5 games?  This isn't football.  Even if a team loses the first five games, they could be in first place in 2 weeks.  Fans need to relax and enjoy the game.
Tim Dierkes
2:40
We react to what we have, even if what we have is just two games for some teams.  Most of this stuff, if it happened in June, we wouldn't notice.

Who gets fired first? Joe Maddon or Jed Hoyer if the Cubs don't make the playoffs?
Tim Dierkes
2:41
The Cubs' front office is secure, and Maddon's contract runs through this year.  I think anything short of the WS and he'll move on.

2:41
If you had to guess, who waives the white flag first and has a fire sale this spring/summer?
Tim Dierkes
2:42
The Orioles, Tigers, and Marlins are probably open for business right now, if you can somehow find something you like.

You think Keuchel is only 2 wins better than the Angels 5th starter?  Keuchel added to the Angels would be much better than that.  He would benefit from the west coast larger stadiums... the solid defense of the Angels... and he'd probably save some bullpen innings by lasting into the 7th inning or later.
Tim Dierkes
2:43
Yes, that's where I'm at...Keuchel is not even a 3 win guy over a full season, which this wouldn't be given needed ramp-up time, and it's possible their fifth starter is a bit above replacement level.  I wouldn't overestimate the impact Dallas Keuchel can make on a team.  He's just a solid #3.

Don't forget Tim Beckham was a 1-1 pick. Maybe he just needed a change of scenery and the right coach in Perry. His bat seems legit.
Tim Dierkes
2:45
It's OK to think that - a handful of guys obviously will break out this year - but it's only logical if you thought it a week ago.  Not if 27 PA changed your mind.
Rick Porcello

If I hit free agency next winter will I be in the same boat as Keuchel?
Tim Dierkes
2:46
Yes...same age and I think they'd be in a very similar place.

Keuchel to SD. 3/65 who says no?
Tim Dierkes
2:47
Padres - how is Keuchel getting 21.6 mil a year?
Overreactions
2:47
Which early season overreaction to you most buy into?  Some of them have some validity
Tim Dierkes
2:48
I don't know what the consensus overreactions are.  I think Jose Berrios and Chris Paddack are good.  Bryce Harper too.  Sorry...
