If MLB went to an automated strike zones decided by machines would there be a home plate umpire in the style of a t800 Terminator?
Tim Dierkes
2:48
Thinking more of a T-1000 liquid metal style, where if he gets hit by the ball it will just absorb into his body.

Should a cubs fan be worried after the series in Texas?
Tim Dierkes
2:49
Yes, in the sense that they should have been worried before the season began and this series did nothing to dispel the ideas that A) the bullpen is highly questionable and B) Yu Darvish is a total unknown.
The Fonz
2:50
The only thing fans should be worried about in week one is if somebody goes down with a serious injury. Otherwise, take a breath folks.
Extensions
2:50
Now that many star players are signing extensions, how will that affect the FA for the next five years?
Tim Dierkes
2:52
Well, the #5 FA for the upcoming winter might be...Didi, Ozuna, MadBum, someone like that.  Xander, Verlander, Arenado, Goldy, Sale, Mikolas, Hicks, Pressly...that is a ton of good to great players to come off the board and we might not have seen the end of it.

Have you played it yet? If so, what do you think?
Tim Dierkes
2:52
Sorry, my skills top out at RBI Baseball.  And Mario Kart on SNES.
Abreu
2:53
So where do I end up at the trade deadline?
Tim Dierkes
2:53
I think he stays.  Jose Abreu is not the type of player teams are clamoring for.

When do the Giants start blowing this thing up? They have had bad offenses in the past, but this is just pathetic.
Tim Dierkes
2:54
Unless they could land Harper, I don't think their heart was ever in it for the 2019 season.  So the doors do probably open around June on this team.  However, trading Bumgarner is such an important decision because he's meant so much to the franchise.  So there is an enhanced PR aspect to it.

I think that I spelled my name correctly, but I'm just a name brand Marwin Gonzalez. Why do so many think that I'll get so much in free agency? I also have a few injury concerns.  (But I'll take it!)
Tim Dierkes
2:55
You did not spell that correctly.  Didi is a regular at SS.  Marwin is not.

What do you think of the phillies hot 3-0 start? Too early to make them a favorite? Do you think they still need pitching
Tim Dierkes
2:57
Little early to say much for 3-0, but I will say that if some team starts really strong, 8-1 for 7-0 or whatever, those extra wins are banked and it can have an impact.

If you had to pick one roster in the NL East for the next five years but couldn't make any free agent additions, which one would you take?
Tim Dierkes
2:58
I want to say the Braves, but I can't really do the question justice in a minute or so.

Your thoughts on the Rickett's family dischord and questionable business ethics of their purchase of the Cubs?
Tim Dierkes
3:00
There was nothing too shocking or juicy in the latest batch of Joe Ricketts emails (guessing his password was "password") but it was interesting to see how annoyed Laura Ricketts was with Tom being called the owner.  In terms of like, playing games to avoid taxes and stuff, that's just how these things are done unfortunately.

Coppy scandal part two: one year later, it is discovered that Coppy paid a bribe to land Ronald Acuna and he is declared a free agent. Do you think Acuna could top the Mike Trout contract?
Tim Dierkes
3:01
Man that's a tough one.  Does a 22-year-old Acuna get more than $360MM?  Bit of a copout but I'd like to see how Acuna's 2019 season goes to really answer that.  But I'd say he falls short, because it's hard to even sniff Mike Trout's greatness.

If you were the GM of the Braves would you now try and sign both Keuchel & Kimbrel?
Tim Dierkes
3:02
It's not really the question.  It's more about what flexibility ownership has given them and what the asking prices are.
Stew

Is there a point when the Red Sox should consider trading Betts?
Tim Dierkes
3:02
I guess if the team is inexplicably 8+ games back at next year's trade deadline, then sure, trade him.  But otherwise you keep him until the end.
Thanks for chatting everyone!
