That's a good reminder for me to let you all know that we're working on revamping our agency database, and it should be a lot better within a few months.  More complete, mobile friendly, mostly correct teams for players, and retired guys getting phased out.

I would think after the season, Alex Bregman's deal would be the main comp for Chapman.  You're right that Boras makes that less likely.

Where do you see Gio Gonzalez signing?
Tim Dierkes
2:11
I'll go with the Brewers.

Do you think the Cubs consider Ian Happ an integral piece moving forward, or a trade chip to a team like the Padres for pitching prospects? Or is this yet to be determined?
Tim Dierkes
2:11
Though it'd be selling low, I do think the Cubs would look at possible Happ trades this summer.  Not sure I see a fit with the Padres, but Happ should be available.

Could you fill out a 25 man roster, competently, with only players who would be free agents after the 2019 season and field a team that could reasonably compete for a division title?
Tim Dierkes
2:12
I'll just do a starting lineup and then we'll see.
C - Yasmani Grandal
1B - Justin Smoak
2:13
2B - Scooter Gennett
SS - Didi Gregorius
3B - Anthony Rendon
LF - Marcell Ozuna
2:14
CF - Jarrod Dyson
RF - Yasiel Puig
DH - J.D. Martinez
2:15
Rotation: Gerrit Cole, Zack Wheeler, Madison Bumgarner, Cole Hamels, Hyun-Jin Ryu
I'll spare you my bullpen deliberations, but yeah, this team would be pretty damn good.

At what point to fans start to talk semi-seriously about Bellinger hitting .400?
Tim Dierkes
2:16
Maybe if he's at .390 entering September?  There's a reason no one's done it for so long.

Odds on a Rendon extension in season? This hot start has to raise his price but is it enough to price out the Nats?
Tim Dierkes
2:17
I think the two sides will work something out, but it might even come after the season but before he hits the open market.

Jake arrieta isn't good regardless what his era says. Been very lucky at this point .  I think he has alot of balls to be calling out his teammates
Tim Dierkes
2:18
The best leaders do not call out their teammates in the media.  Not really related, but from here on out I think Jake's ERA is over 4.00.  Still looking a lot better than Yu Darvish though...

Its time to get back to smartball/smallball.   Tired of the HR or K.  Is this Fad here to stay?
Tim Dierkes
2:19
Yes, you should get used to it.  It's here unless MLB makes some major rule changes.

I heard Dan Szymborski on the Sox Machine podcast suggest significantly stiffer fines for pitchers deliberately hitting batters (referring to the slap-on-the-wrist "5 game" suspension for Brad Keller and non-punishment for Ned Yost following the Tim Anderson beaning). I believe Dan offered something like 30 games for Keller and 60 games for Yost if MLB is serious about stopping this Neanderthal violence. Seems like harsh punishments for attempting physical violence against your competitor simply because they previously bested you is a no-brainer. What do you think?
Tim Dierkes
2:20
I agree with harsh penalties for intentional beanballs/violence.  That will act as a deterrent and such incidents will become rarer.  I do think MLB will get there eventually.

As a former sportswriter, I'd say don't be afraid to start small...but GET internships at as big of papers as possible! That's typically the fast track to a bigger paper. Departments tend to hire someone they're comfortable with. Not just about best resume'.

How do Brewers fix starting pitching rotation?
Tim Dierkes
2:24
I believe the Brewers would surrender pick #133 for signing Dallas Keuchel right now, which is not bad at all.  If they can fit him into the budget it makes a lot of sense, especially considering he'd need some ramp-up time.  Otherwise you have to look at MadBum, Stroman, whoever's out there.

Is Miguel Cabrera done? I'm not sure if one month is considered small sample size, but he's basically showing no power at all. Hide his name and I feel like his stats looks like Joe Mauer in the last couple of years.

2:26
It's kind of hard to see a legend get worse over the years.  But I see no reason to think Miggy's power is permanently gone, I think he can pop 15 this year.

What happened to Alex Rios?
Tim Dierkes
2:26
There is a dude who asks like 15 types of these questions every chat, without fail.
2:28
Like most players eventually do, Rios seems to have just disappeared from the news.  Sounds like he's quietly faded into retirement when the offers weren't good enough in 2016.
Me attempting to answer that question was, for that dude, like a dog catching its tail I guess?

On a related note, the other day I was actually looking into what Rick Wilkins is up to these days.  He had one legendary year as Cubs catcher (1993).  Here's what I found: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rick-wilkins-b14666b/
