Your next option...
12:55
You next option in the legal adjudication process is listed on the hearing record from your hearing.
12:54
So you have adjudicated the ticket and you must continue with the legal process within the time allowed.
Kendra Pittman
12:54
From April, I've been contesting it since and they keep denying it because my complaint doesn't fit the very narrow rules for appealing a ticket. This is why I keep saying its predatory. There's no rule that gives DC adjudication judges recourse to handle this
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:52
Or should I say, what day was the ticket issued?
12:51
How old is the ticket?
Kendra Pittman
12:51
The ticket I'm trying to adjudicate pertains to the issue of street sweeping but I cannot contest it. How can this situation be rectified? There's no street sweeping happening so I don't want to pay a false ticket for something that's not even happening.
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:45
Laws are made by the DC Council (sometimes at the request of the Executive) and signed by the Mayor.
Kendra Pittman
12:45
So if this is all "DC Law" who do we talk to about changing that?
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:43
I understand your position.
Kendra Pittman
12:43
Thank you for explaining the process, I understand how it goes. My point is that's predatory practice
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:41
DC Law requires payment of the ticket plus the appeal's fee in order to file an appeal.  If the decision is reversed during appeal, you will be refunded.
Kendra Pittman
12:41
And what about having to pay tickets before appealing them?
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:39
Walk-in hearings are available up to 4pm.  There are no plans to change that.  Also, you can schedule a virtual hearing at a time that you can plan for from home, at the office, or any other place.
Kendra Pittman
12:39
Also is there any way hours to adjudicate in person can be extended to 5P instead of just payments until 5P?
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:37
Approx. 35-40% of tickets adjudicated are found not liable.  Fines double according to DC Law after 30 days of no response (payment or adjudication request).  The DMV is subject to audits as any other agency.
Kendra Pittman
12:36
What about doubling fines? Also do you have the accurate numbers for adjudication requests and can you share? Is there also an agency who audits the DMV?
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:30
Hello.  The DMV has changed it's process.  You now have the option for a schedule virtual hearing, in person, or online.  Additionally, the numbers you quoted are not correct.  90% of adjudication request are not denied, no matter how you decide to adjudicate.
Kendra Pittman
12:30
  • Is there any plans for changes in the adjudication process for the DMV? They aren't really helpful to the general public and I believe can be pretty predatory to working DC citizens. For example: The hours for the adjudication office are not fit for working people they close at 4p when the average person gets off at 5p and then you have to fight through after-work traffic to get there on time. Work starts at 8a for most people, when the office is open, but somehow the office remains open til 5p but only to take money not to actually help people trying to adjudicate tickets. The solution to this is NOT contesting online because 90% get denied almost as if by a computer. To appeal tickets you have to pay the fine with hopes of getting a refund. If most people are already struggling to make ends meet, why would we have money to pay the ticket to MAYBE get refunded 30 days later? This is the same predatory practice based in fines being doubled every 30 days. How can we initiate reform for this?

12:25
What type of credit card are you using?
Shannon
12:25
Hi, I am trying to renew my registration online, but keep getting the error message saying, "Your credit card has not been charged. Credit card authorization failed for the following reason : Message from payment processor : Not signed up for this tender type." Can you let me know what tender types are expected?
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:21
I understand and I appreciate you following this conversation and holding us accountable.
Michael
12:21
Thanks. I was hopeful to get a timeline after three years of asking on this chat. If I felt you were able to provide more information over my years of joining this chat, I would continue to join here. I appreciate you holding this but I will also reach out to my council members in hopes they can provide more context or advocate to you and your department.
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:17
I appreciate your advocacy, and the DMV will get this done.  However, there is no timeline.  You can continue to speak to me directly with questions.
Michael
12:17
Ok. I'm concerned about the implementation of this legislation by your department. The DMV has many great online services but this has not moved and I've asked several times and advocated for this. I was hopeful to learn who you have assigned this project so I understand how the DMV is roadmapping this and what their goals and timelines are.  Should I can contact my council members and mayor's office to understand their expectations for implementation on the legislation or advocate they support your department? Digital IDs are spreading across the country and our surrounding states. Additionally, our local airports accept them but DC has yet to provide any other information for years beyond "we are in talks with vendors" for opportunities and the DMV has not timeline.
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:15
If you want to talk about a parking officer or a street sweeping moratorium, you must contact DPW.  If you want to contest a ticket, us the following DMV link:  https://dmv.dc.gov/service/respond-ticket
Kendra Pittman
12:15
DPW is who I reach out to for the moratorium? I'm not trying to talk to someone about the service of street sweeping, I'm trying to find out how to get the predatory ticketing to stop. Is this not the DMV ticketing folks?
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:11
The Department of Public Works (DPW)
Kendra Pittman
12:10
So my issue is There’s an officer who is predatorily ticketing people for street sweeping that hasn’t been happening on Euclid street for months. There’s been construction on a new apartment for a year now and the construction works park on BOTH sides of the street everyday. The street cleaning truck physically could not go down the street and there’s cars still parked on the street sweeping side. The ticketer will literally skip construction workers cars and ticket residents who already have to fight for parking with all the construction workers parking every day. Who can we reach out to for a moratorium on this while construction continues?
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:10
The Department of Public Works (DPW).
12:09
Yes, if you would like to contest a ticket, you will adjudicate with the DMV using the following link:  https://dmv.dc.gov/service/respond-ticket
Kendra Pittman
12:09
If I want to challenge the ticketing for it wouldn't I reach out to the DMV? It makes me pay tickets through TAS and the DMV site
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:07
You can send your comments to me.
Michael
12:07
Thanks for the response. Can you share with me who is assigned the lead on this project so that I may reach out to them?
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:06
Hello.  Street sweeping and parking ticket are administered by the Department of Public Work (DPW), not the DMV.
Kendra Pittman
12:06
Hi I have a question in regards to street sweeping parking tickets in the 1300 block of Euclid St NW
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:04
Hello, thanks for the question.  The DMV remain talks with vendors to explore opportunities for digital IDs. However, there is no timeline that I can provide.
Michael
12:04
Hi Director. Can you please provide me with an update on when DC will implement digital IDs according to legislation passed in 2021?
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:00
I'm now ready to take your questions related to any DMV service and activity. If you have a question not related to DMV, I'll try my best to redirect you to the appropriate agency.  Also, I may not be able to answer specific questions which require research related to DMV issues since I only have an hour to chat. Therefore, if your question is specific to your driver license, a ticket, etc, I may request you submit it to us by email (dmv@dc.gov) or service request (http://311.dc.gov).
