Monday chatters, welcome! Lots to get to; will complete as many of these as I can...

Hi Brent, NL Only -2 catchers per team, 5x5, $260 cap.  Last keeper - smith at $16 or realmuto at $17
Brent Hershey
12:01
Smith by a hair. Don't love the prices for either but prefer Smith in a one-year draft setup. Lineup is a little better, more job security if you're looking ahead.

Given Langaliers move to a stadium with much smaller foul ball territory, wouldn't it stand likely he were due for a better batting avg? He hits the ball hard and his H% was below avg the last few years
Brent Hershey
12:03
Yeah, that's a factor ... but a larger one is that we just don't know how Sacramento is going to play. I'm not saying to stay away from Langeliers by any stretch, and his BA may improve. Though remember that on the hitting side, each hitter regresses to his own career H%. So... this might be who Langeliers IS in terms of that.

Hey Brent...In a 12 team mixed keeper league going into the draft. I will likely be in the middle of our league this year. I will not have a pennant contending team in '25. My SP is Crochet$4, Bibee$7, Miller (Seatle)$12, Pivetta$9, Sanchez$4 & Rodon$6. I need to drop 1 or 2 from this list.
My current thoughts are that Rodon & Sanchez are the bottom two. Pros for Sanchez are age, high ground balls & 6 inn ave outing. Cons, weak Ks. With Rodon, he stunk in '23, was below average 1st ½ of '24 & improved markedly in the 2nd 1/2. But, I'm not sure if he will get back to what he was in 21 & 22.
What I need from you is please rate these guys from your fresh point of view. Thanks so much.
Brent Hershey

Rank: Crochet / Bibee / Sanchez <gap> Rodon / Miller / Pivetta
Thoughts:1)  Feel you're underrating Sanchez particularly — super strong in spring so far, hints of even another level. Enough hints that I'd be in at that price given your particulars.Trim out the higher-priced Miller and Pivetta. Like Miller for sure, but does he become a super value at 12 for you next year (given you're unlikely to be in the run in 2025)? Not convinced. Keeping cheaper Sanchez/Rodon also gives you more trading options later in the season if it comes to that. Good luck!

I’m picking third in a 19 team fantasy redraft league. I’d like you to rate my three choices for the pick assuming they’re available Witt, Skenes, Corbin.
Brent Hershey
12:04
I'd go in the order you have them; with Witt a no-doubter on top of this trio.

I play in an AL -only where if someone gets traded to NL you lose them. Ouch. If Sea gets desperate for O which SP has the biggest risk of getting traded? I know you dont have a crystal ball but also how worried should drafters of Regifo or Andrew Vaughn be? Thank you for what you do!
Brent Hershey
12:07
Personally, I try to mostly keep this out of my analysis this time of year; just feel like it's overthinking things. Sure, come trade deadline, you can have a better feel of who might be selling, etc. But in early March? So many unknowns.

If you insist, I'd think Bryce Miller or Castillo I guess for SEA — but seems like if they were going to do that, it would have happened already. Shoot your shot with the info ya got!

I'm in a couple of NL rotisserie leagues with drafts for "forever keepers" -- you select prospects in a farm draft and keep them until they are called up to the majors, at which point they are signed to a first year $5 rotisserie contract, whether it be this year or four years from now.

I have a high pick in both leagues, and am considering the following: JJ Weatherholt, Bubba Chandler, Leodis De Vries. Assume other prospects are taken. How would you order these three in this context?
Brent Hershey
12:08
De Vries, Chandler, Weatherholt. Seeing De Vries live in the AFL last fall as a teenager, his ABs were super impressive. Veteran-like plate approach; points to a high ceiling once he gets to MLB.  Chandler comes with high upside but pitcher risk; I see JJW more of a high-floor MIF who could have long career. Good choices, but a clear order for me.

Happy Monday, Brent! I’m preparing for my late-draft SP targeting and have identified the following:

Nick Pivetta, Drew Rasmussen, Mike Soroka, Sean Burke, Ryan Weathers, Kris Bubic, David Festa, DJ Herz, Reid Detmers, and Quinn Matthews.

Got any favorites among this group?

Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:11
Off spring starts/info: Weathers and Soroka. If you can be patient and ride out rough spots, Herz / Festa / Bubic. And like super, super late ... don't mind Detmers at all. Just would not give him a long leash to start; be ready to cut bait early on if it ain't happening.

Thank you Brent! 4x4 AL only keeper league. Please rate these 4 pitchers and 4 hitters  Spring Training noise  (STN)or fact. Miguel Andujar, Miguel Vargas, Curtis Mead, Jordon Westburg..Bowden Francis, Liam Hendriks, Jeffry Spring, Ronel Blanco Appreciate all your help!
Brent Hershey
12:14
Assume we're going off spring performances?
Andujar - fact, though not sure on PT
Vargas - PT sounds like a fact; not yet convinced that he can hit
Mead - fact
Westburg - STN; think he'll be fine

Francis - STN
Hendriks - STN, 4 IP
Springs - STN, won't be this good
Blanco - STN, will be OK but don't expect 2024

Brent, did you see Clay Holmes yesterday?! How good can this guy be??
Brent Hershey
12:16
Saw the box; did not view the game. Still some IP risk, but could replicate something like Reynaldo Lopez's skills from last year (3.55 xERA; 1.20ish xWHIP). Intrigued.

Hi Brent, what is your overarching auction draft strategy for 2025? i.e., are there certain positions you are spending more on? (mixed league, 12 teams, roto)
Brent Hershey
12:17
In a 12, definitely would try to lean more into stars and scrubs ... pay up for a some proven big performers at whatever positions. Replacement level is high; don't be afraid to move on in-season.

Brent … I need you to be honest with me. (I can take it!) How high is Ryan Pepiot’s ceiling this season?
Brent Hershey
12:17
A #2ish SP ceiling for 2025. Downsides/unknowns are the park (AND mid-season travel for TAM, the toll of which seems under-recognized), lack of track record, a bit fly ball heavy. But has good age/experience mix; injury risk is not arm-related.

Hey Brent, I have a top-three team in my 12-team mixed perpetual keeper league (6X6 with traditional categories + OBP). I am blessed to have Michael Harris as an "extra" OF. I've talked to a fellow manager about "downgrading" to Crews in a trade that would also net me back Jared Jones. I see Crews as similar to Harris (More speed, less power -- for now) and think he could have a helluva season atop the Nats lineup.

Am I being too cute?

Appreciate the help ..

Love this chat!!
Brent Hershey
12:18
Give Harris for Crews and J Jones? Great trade for you, I would say.

Brent,  A nl only keeper, 12 team..... Given what we know (or don't know) about Strider, what's the top price you  would keep him for?    Thanks for the chats!
Brent Hershey
12:20
In NL only keeper, I'd not hesitate into the mid-20s or so? Maybe even higher? Such a difference maker if he makes it back, and all signs are positive right now. And you'll have for some portions of the future as well.

Will you recommend a website for Spring Training news?  (Of course, BHQ is one that I use already, but looking for more detailed daily stuff.)
Brent Hershey
12:23
The "ticker" sites are pretty good (RotoWire, Rotoworld, etc) but there are times when I find that their headlines/summaries give a bit different lean than if you "click through" to the 'source' report. Not always, but at times.
An alternative would be signing up for the MLB.com beat writers' newsletters, but that can be a lot to go through. Depends on how much time you have.

Brent,
Thank you for taking our questions!!
11 team, Roto 5x5, auction, $260, NL only, Keeper, K-BB, OBP instead of BA.
1.      Colorado questions. Will Amador make the open day roster and do you think Estrada will be traded mid-season opening up 2nd for Amador?
2.      2nd base ranking. Please rank these possible 2nd basemen – O. Lopez, Gorman, Durbin, Lux, Estrada, Kim, Horvitz.

Really enjoyed First Pitch Online!!
Brent Hershey
12:25
Thanks for being at FP Online; we had a blast!

  1. I'm not as big on Amador as some others. I'd not hesitate to roster Estrada given that.
  2. Estrada, Lopez, Gorman, Kim, Horwitz, Durbin, Lux. Obv different profiles; you'll need to match your team needs, etc.

H2H dynasty QS daily lineup league.  I have Fedde, Efflin, May, Bobby Miller, Pablo Lopez, J, Steele.  We have to start between 6-9 each week.  R.Weather, B. Bello, J. Soriano, Severino, Cortes Jr., and Quintana are all available. Should I make any moves?
Brent Hershey
12:28
I'd prefer Weathers, Soriano (buying the next step up for both) and Cortes (seems like solid QS guy) to Bobby Miller for sure right now. Maybe Fedde also.

Arraez is my starting 2B in a dynasty league. Any way he keeps 2B? Judge CF? Altuve 2B (I can get him).
Brent Hershey
12:30
Doubtful Arraez keeps 2B for 2026; but lots can happen. The Judge CF days are over I'd think; too early to call on Altuve and 2B. LF seems to be working for him ... but could also just be an experiment.

H2H 12-team points league.

I have seen where Jake Burger is penciled in to bat in the bottom 3rd of the Rangers lineup. I was hoping to grab him as my primary 1B but now I am not so sure. Any thoughts about this effecting his projections and if he can reach his UP designation?
Brent Hershey
12:32
Would not worry; I find those lineup order projections hit and miss. With Burger specifically, the move to TEX only enhances his ceiling. We thought he could get there when we wrote that in October; we certainly think that's still on the table now.

Thanks, Brent. NL, Dynasty, 12-team so finding value is a big part of the strategy. I have Jordan Beck on my roster at .70 but hesitate to carry him into the draft. His swing and miss could easily lead to more AAA seasoning if he gets out of the gate slow, no? Sean Bouchard is capable of holding it down. Thoughts.
