Good... afternoon gang! Bit of a delayed start here, had some tech issues. Ready to go now... and it's a good thing too! We're suddenly in peak March Madness around here! I had LABR Mixed yesterday as part of a very successful First Pitch Florida weekend. Tout Wars-Mixed is tomorrow night. Subscriber league signups are coming to you today. It's suddenly a crazy time, but crazy fun. Let's get to the questions...
Michael
12:12
Hi Ray, two questions:1. NL only, traditional 5x5, if I am keeping Seward and Alvarado as my relievers, do you think I bid  on ginkel, Hoffman , both or neither if their price tag is $3 or less.      2. When do you think we will be able to put in keeper salaries into custom guide calculator?
Ray Murphy
12:12
  1. Would probably more likely do this with Ginkel than Hoffman, just because the Phils have so many different ways they can go. I do like the concept, did it in LABR Mixed yesterday with Suarez/Matsui in SD (total of $5, 12-team mixed), but prefer to do it where there aren't quite as many next-in-line options as in PHI.
  2. Yesterday! We actually added keepers to CDG over the weekend. I'll post a site update later today with some of the details, but it's there now... go check it out!

Is the hype on rookies like Holliday and Langford going too far?  We've all seen initial struggles from the Next Big Thing, right?
Ray Murphy
12:14
I mean, that's where I am. I heard A LOT of talk about Holliday, Langford (and others) this weekend. But last year at First Pitch Florida, people were in a lather about Jordan Walker... how'd that work out? I'll let others chase the shiny new thing, and if Holliday or Langford turn out to be 2012 Mike Trout or 1996 Alex Rodriguez, well, I'll just wear that. But I like my side of that debate.

12:17
Who are a few guys that are being way overdrafted?
Ray Murphy
12:17
Couple of guys in top-60 ADP who I've been avoiding... Jose Altuve (see Forecaster comment), Elly De La Cruz (though I did take him once when he fell to pick 43-ish), Tyler Glasnow (maybe the Dodgers are right, but I'm not paying for 150+ IP when his 120 IP last year was a career high.)

Good Morning Brent, In a dynasty 6x6 OBP league and looking at some end game options. I’ve already pulled off a trade of giving Freddy Peralta and Kyle Harrison for Michael Harris II. (seemed like a fairly even trade as he is instantly my best OF and I still have the players below). One of the owners looks like they are letting Bailey Ober and Isaac Paredes off their keepers. Would you go after either of them? Right now my pitching is: Spencer Strider, Bobby Miller, Tarik Skubal, Cole Ragans, Michael King, Bryan Woo, Nick Lodolo and Triston McKenzie (ignoring my RP for this discussion). I was thinking that Ober would be an upgrade over McKenzie at the end of my bench and I could keep Lodolo on the IL until we get more info on his future. Isaac Paredes would be replacing Alec Bohm (who I was going to drop) on my team as I have Gelof at 2b, Jung at 3b and Marte filling in as MI and 3b backup. Do those seem like moves worth making?
Ray Murphy
12:19
Definitely agree that Ober > McKenzie, though you do have a lot of depth there already. Less sure about Paredes>Bohm, though if you're prioritizing position flexibility in a bench bat, I can see that.

Thank you for the chat! 10 team AL only standard 5x5 auction with $260 budget, 15% inflation. I can keep 3 of the following: B Naylor $9, E Duran $1, M Semien $30, C Javier $7, L O’Happe 5, S Bieber 8. What would be your choices?
Ray Murphy
12:21
Keeping 2 C as your 3 keepers would be weird, but in a vacuum I would probably take Naylor/O'Hoppe/Bieber as my 3. If you want to opt for Duran over one of those C's, that doesn't bother me either.

12:23
AL only OBP keep one - Eloy @ 15 or Justin Turner @ 20
Ray Murphy
12:23
Is neither an option? Because that's my first choice. If you have to pick one, I guess Eloy, and make a sacrifice to the injury gods.

12:24
Name a few prospects in an AL only that get a big boost due to OBP
Ray Murphy
12:24
Better to ask this one next week when Brent is back, as I'm not a prospect maven. Evan Carter comes to mind immediately, though.
Larry Cleese
12:25
Bo Naylor or Josh Jung in an AL only OBP keeper league?
Ray Murphy
12:25
Jung for this year, Naylor longer-term.
Larry Cleese
12:28
What can we expect for Shane Baz this year? I thought he'd be full strength by now given his TJ surgery date
Ray Murphy
12:28
Yeah, by surgery timeline (Sept 22) he should be good to go, but seems very similar to what LA is doing with Buehler... just being cautious, and probably trying to align an innings-cap with potential late-season/post-season work. I haven't read anything to indicate that there's a physical issue/he isn't full strength.... just a management thing. Figure we'll see him in Tampa sometime in May/June. Our current proj is 73 IP... I'd say there's room to bump that toward 100, but prob not beyond that.

12:30
Good Afternoon Ray and thanks for filling in today. With the Number 1 pick in a 5X5 redraft, would you still go with Acuna or pivet to Witt. I';m getting a bad feeling that Acuna will have this injury linger on all year. Thanks
Ray Murphy
12:30
Lots of talk about the Acuna situation at FPFlorida this weekend. Seems like we'll know more today/tomorrow, so you won't have to think about this for too long. Worth noting: if you cut his SB projection to 30, he would still be projected as the top player in the pool. So I wouldn't pivot with pick 1.1 just yet.

AL Only OBP keep one - Matt Wallner or Justin Turner
Ray Murphy
12:31
I'm pretty into Wallner, but would still take Turner here.

12:33
Ray, thanks for subbing. AL only keeper league i have cabrera and peraza (NYY) are you highere on either long term.?
Ray Murphy
12:33
In addition to not being a prospect maven, as mentioned above... I'm also a Red Sox fan, so I'm definitely the wrong person to ask about NYY prospects. That said, Peraza being two years younger has to count for a lot if you're choosing one of these for the long term.

in a daily H2H cats league and im picking towards the back end of round 1. Considering totally punting steals until the late rounds as i do not see a viable early round speed investment outside the top 4 picks. (I like abrams but there’s too many proven options at his adp) Is punting steals early in a H2H draft a worthy venture?
Ray Murphy
12:34
Punting steals very viable in H2H cats format. And you can always throw some late SB darts too, see if you catch something. (Lots of talk about Victor Scott from STL this weekend in Florida). I do LOVE Abrams, though, so wouldn't close the door on him either.

Keeper league:  Eury or Grayson?  And on that subject, do you see HQ getting into dynasty rankings at some point in the future?  Thanks.
Ray Murphy
12:35
Man, that's tough. Got them both in LABR-Mixed yesterday. Have gone back and forth on them all winter... love them both.

Dynasty rankings... we have tried that in a couple of different formats over the years, nothing really took off. Might be time for another try.

Gausman, Wheeler, and Castillo are getting propped up in a tier below the elite SPs l, but a tier above a group of SPs that can definitely outperform them this year. Do you think the range if outcomes on SPs 4-15 are closer than adp might tell us?
Ray Murphy
12:38
I do like that trio a lot, I even prefer them to Burnes. Skills wise, you're probably right that there isn't a large gap between that trio and the tier behind them. For me, the difference is volume... Castillo/Gausman/Wheeler should all be good for 180+ IP, and you don't necessarily see that in (looking at ADP list) Yamamoto, Skubal, Peralta, Fried, Gilbert, Grayson, Bob miller, Grayson, Eury Perez. Then a couple of the guys who do have volume in that tier (Webb, Nola) don't quite measure up to the top 3 skill-wise. So I think the market is fairly efficient on these pitchers.

thoughts on Cease in the H2H categories format?
Ray Murphy
12:39
Like him in H2H more than season-long... bad outings wash away at the end of the week, and his dominant outings can swing a week for you. And have to figure the long-awaited trade is coming at some point.

5th starter candidates Ryne Nelson, Tylor Megill, and Gavin Stone are all off to strong starts this spring. Too early, or are you buying in? Anything under the hood (pitch mix, velo, etc.) that says yea or nay?
Ray Murphy
12:41
Haven't had a chance to check on their pitch mixes, but in general "too early" for me. I used to say "don't pay attention to spring training until St. Patricks Day"... thats a little late now with the season starting in March, but the principal holds. Esp with pitchers, lighting up the gun for an inning or two is different than even the 4-5 IP outings we'll be seeing in another week or two. It's ok to get interested in these guys, just temper it for a bit longer.

Hi Ray, as defending champion, you mentioned you were squirming about a couple of your bids in mixed LABR.  Care to elaborate?
Ray Murphy
12:44
I wasn't patient enough in a few places. Wanted to build around Betts/Freeman going in... got Betts, but Freeman got called relatively late and I didn't stick to the plan. Got Harper at a good price, and I like him, but that closed me out on Freeman. In general I got a little carried away early, ended up a little more stars/scrubs than I wanted. But, in a 12-team mixed, maybe that's not a bad thing. Oh, and I should have let Bieber go to Ariel at 6, that was the other one that I regretted.

12:45
How much do you downgrade a UT/DH only guy when it comes to auction day? Say you can keep a Nelson Cruz type who is projected for $25 and can be kept for $20, but will clog up your UT spot going into an auction.
Ray Murphy
12:45
The more relevant example for this year is probably Ohtani.... I hate clogging my UT, so haven't gotten any Ohtani yet this year. Not totally opposed, but I think the pain that causes you in lineup-setting every week is really underrated. A lot depends on format, too, though... weekly pickups? Size of bench? DL spots? These things all factor in.

What are your thoughts on the following as Keepers in 12-Team, AL-Only 4x4:  G. Williams, C. Ragans, B. Miller, K. Bradish -- all of them at $10.
