This one isn't that bad, to be honest. Atlanta could replace Ozzie with Grissom pretty easily. And they need pitching.
4:27
I doubt they want to break up their core when it's working, but it's not terrible on paper.
JuliOhtani
4:27
Do you think the M’s will be a front runner for Ohtani?  We have enough pitching that we don’t need to worry about him not pitching next season.
Darragh McDonald
4:27
I would probably put Seattle in the top five most likely spots, but probably third or fourth if I really had to choose.

What do you think Verdugo would cost in terms of return? Sox are looking for pitching.  Verdugo is a good glove in right field and has decent on base potential even if not lots of power. Change of scenery may also help him.
Darragh McDonald
4:30
I don't think it would take much, really. Last year of control and he's set to make about 9 mil. Not a ton of value there.

Is it more fact or legend that hitters don't want to play in Seattle because of the home park?  I.e. is this a major contributing factor to why free agent bats sign elsewhere or more of an excuse for not landing a top impact bat?
Darragh McDonald
4:31
In most cases, players tend to go where the biggest contract is. But sometimes a few teams are making similar offers and the player has to come up with a reason to pick one over the other.
4:32
So, if a hitter has a 10 million offer from the M's and a 10 million offer from the Yankees, which to pick? Yankee stadium probably is more appealing, but does he want to be on the East Coast? Does he want a big media spotlight? All these things could be factors.
But if it's, like, 10 mil versus 5 mil, he'd probably go to whichever team offered the 10.

If M’s are 3rd or 4th for Ohtani who do you have ahead?  Dodgers? Giants? Padres? Rangers?
Darragh McDonald
4:33
Yeah, I'd probably have Dodgers and Giants first and second. Then I could see any of Padres, Rangers, Mariners or Mets next.
Tommy
4:33
Is there any chance of Yamamoto coming to Seattle?
Darragh McDonald
4:34
I can see better fits.

I’ll reframe? Is Mike Trout a fantasy? Seems like the Angels are in rebuild mode and wouldn’t want that contract hanging around their necks.
Darragh McDonald
4:34
I don't think we know this yet. It might make sense for the Angels to rebuild if Ohtani leaves. (Should have mentioned them in the Ohtani question, by the way. He could go back.)
4:35
But just because it makes sense, doesn't mean the Angels will do it. And even if they do, Trout has a full no-trade, meaning it would be up to him where he goes. And I doubt the Halos want to send him to a divisional rival.

Story and Verdugo for Kirby. Who says no?
Darragh McDonald
4:35
You want Story?

4:36
if the Ms only signed Ohtani this offseason, is that enough to make a division push against the rangers/astros?
Darragh McDonald
4:36
Sure. I mentioned this in the outlook, but Teoscar and Murphy are the only free agents, really. Subbing Ohtani in there makes them better.
DO
4:36
Is it a lock Teoscar is out in Seattle?
Darragh McDonald
4:37
I don't think so!
Dipoto
4:37
Should I go after both Bellinger and Ohtani? What are the chances at landing them both?
Darragh McDonald
4:37
I wouldn't bet on any club signing both.
JG
4:38
Could Seattle go after Munetake Murakami after next year?
Darragh McDonald
4:38
Murakami isn't expected to be posted until after 2025. Still a long way to go there.
Jacob
4:38
How much longer can they possibly allow Scott Service to manage the club?
Darragh McDonald
4:40
I'll let you all in on a dirty secret. Since we write about all 30 teams at MLBTR, I can only dedicate about 3.33% of my baseball time to each team. So you all probably have a better idea of what your manager does than I do.
That being said, I think most fans greatly overrate how important the manager is.

4:40
what Positions do you feel we need to upgrade to win our division?
Darragh McDonald
4:41
Second base, one outfield corner.
Jerry
4:41
Will the team upgrade from its current batch of second basemen options?
Darragh McDonald
4:41
I think they have to do something, yeah.
Roger
4:41
Do you believe there needs to be some accountability in the front office (Manager, GM, President) or should we just keep rolling with the same guys year after year with no change? At some point something has to give right?
Darragh McDonald
4:42
Seems to me like things are going pretty well. 90 wins in 2021-22, then 88 this year. Most of the same team will be back in 2024.

Do you think Cal will resign or test free agency?
Darragh McDonald
4:43
Cal Raleigh? He isn't slated for free agency until after 2027.
