Assuming Soler declines his option, do you think Miami will give him a QO for $20.5 mil ?  If they do, won't that depress the market for him if he turns it down ?
Darragh McDonald
4:31
Yeah, I think it's a borderline call. He's worth 20.5 but can the Marlins afford to have that kind of money locked up in one guy?
4:32
Turning it down does depress his market, yes, but there are so few good bats in free agency that he would still get interest.

What is the status of Sixto Sanchez please?  Injured the 3 years but he is out of options because he was on minor league IR?  Have they been paying him MLB minimum wage the past 3 years since he was in the majors in 2020?  What do they do with him this year?
Darragh McDonald
4:33
He is out of options, yeah. The Marlins were granted a fourth option for 2023 and he spent the whole year in the minors.
4:34
They will have been paying him minor league wages. Other than that 2020 season, he's been optioned to the minors every year since then.
As to what they do with him, really depends on his shoulder. He was healthy enough to throw one inning this year. Unless his condition has substantially improved, I think they move on.
Bob.

Who do you see as the Marlins closer at the beginning of 2024, and at the end of 2024?
Darragh McDonald
4:36
Should still be Tanner Scott to start the year.
End of the year, who knows? Relievers are volatile and pitchers get hurt.

Does Juan Soto make sense? Would help fix any loss and is the mvp bat they need.
Darragh McDonald
4:37
Hard for me to see it. Soto is going to make around $33MM next year. And it'll take prospects to get him from the Padres.

Seems like Skip is not thrilled with Kim Ng leaving. Any chance he gets asked for suggestions on a PBO/GM? Otherwise he might be on thin ice as new GM might want to bring in their own manager
Darragh McDonald
4:37
I really don't know what the front office plan is, to be honest.
4:38
Sherman supposedly wanted to hire a president to work above Ng, but we have no details on that. Did he have someone specific in mind? Or he just wanted to shake things up? There's been very little leaked about it.
Way too early prediction

Will the marlins make the postseason again in 2024?

Will the Marlins make the postseason again next year?

I lean no. Their run differential was -57, worse than the Padres, Cubs, Reds, Giants.
4:40
It's tough to go 33-14 in one-run games on a regular basis.
The offense was already kind of weak and now Soler/Bell might leave. Sandy is out next year.
4:41
Maybe that's too pessimistic and they'll make some bold moves this winter, but there's a lot of holes right now.

Does Eury Perez have an innings limit next year?
Darragh McDonald
4:42
Hmm. He got up to 128 this year between majors and minors.
I think he could probably go up to 170ish next year maybe?
4:43
So, if he stays healthy all year, maybe he skips a start or two.
John
4:43
Would they consider moving Arraez to first if Bell is gone?
Darragh McDonald
4:43
They will probably consider it but the second base free agents are arguably worse than the first base options.
But if they can trade for Gleyber or something? Sure, it would make sense.

Do the Fish go for a back-end arm in free agency?
Darragh McDonald
4:44
Sure, especially if they make a trade.
When they traded Lopez, they backfilled by signing Cueto.
That didn't work out, obviously, but they were aware that they might need innings.

Is Yuli part of next years team? Also do you see the Marlins moving Jazz to SS. Is easier to replace and outfielder than finding a good SS in this year's class...
Darragh McDonald
4:45
Yuli has been bad for two years in a row and turns 40 next year. I think they should set their sights higher.

Was the playoff run a fluke or are the Marlins an actual playoff team? And do you see a strong upgrades in 2024 or budget upgrades?
Darragh McDonald
4:46
I don't want to be mean but winning that many games with that kind of run differential isn't really sustainable, so it leans towards the fluky side.

The Orioles need controllable pitching and have lots of positional depth. Could one of Anthony Santander, Austin Hays, Ryan Mountcastle or Joey Ortiz land them Edward Cabrera?
Darragh McDonald
4:46
Yeah, I can definitely see these two clubs lining up on a deal.
