In a few years will we look back and say Jake Burger for Jake Eder was one of the biggest steals of the '23 deadline?
Darragh McDonald
5:06
It's possible. In this week's Big Hype Prospects, Brad Johnson wrote about how Eder's stuff isn't bouncing back post-surgery.
5:07
But there are concerns about Burger. Strikes out a lot and doesn't walk. He has to keep hitting home runs to be valuable.
That's possible, but look at the oscillation of Eugenio Suarez over the years. It's a similar profile. Burger might have some stinkers. Who knows?

Hey, its a chat about my beat!

Glad you could make it!

I think the Orioles, Twins and Cards are good trade partners. Mateo and Hays from Baltimore, Herrera and Edman from STL, Miranda, Kiriloff, Camargo (AAA) from MIN.
Darragh McDonald
5:09
Those are all sensible fits, yeah. Though Mateo hasn't really shown he can hit over an extended period of time.

With a new overhaul in the FO. How do the Marlins build off of last seasons success? IMO they need to bring back Soler and Bell also add SS/catcher and bulk up SP
Darragh McDonald
5:10
Yeah, shortstop and catcher are the definitely the big ones.
First base depends on Bell.

Why isn't there more media coverage of Kim Ng's departure from the Marlins?  It seemed like a non-stop media blitz when she got hired, but very little about how she left the team.  At the private sector companies that I have worked at, I've regularly seen women hired into executive positions yet never afforded the same allowances for failure that men have had, and this seems to just be more of the same.
Darragh McDonald
5:11
I guess it depends which media you're talking about. I was working for MLBTR when it happened and it got plenty of attention.
But we obviously follow all the baseball people on Twitter/X.
5:12
I'm in Canada and don't get to watch national American media much, so I can't really speak to their coverage.

Would it make sense for them to move Burger to 1st and look for a 3B replacement isn
Darragh McDonald
5:12
Perhaps, but he has only 23 innings of first base experience.
5:13
And which third baseman are the Marlins going to get? Can't see them outbidding the field on Matt Chapman or Jeimer Candelario.
Gio Urshela would make some sense but he's coming off a season-ending pelvic fracture.
5:14
Is Eduardo Escobar at third and Burger at first a better pairing than Burger/Bell or something similar?

Tigers trade SS Baez and throw in Pitcher Skubal What can Tigers get back ?
Darragh McDonald
5:15
I don't think Skubal is available. And even if he were, I don't think they wouldn't lump him together with Baez just to dump the salary.

Any chance CWS entertain Robert Jr for Max Mayer and De la Cruz or Sanchez and prospects?  Maybe expand with Anderson as well?
Darragh McDonald
5:16
Robert is probably the least available of anyone on the White Sox, I would think.

The Twins have been mentioned a few times as a partner, but I havent seen Max Kepler's name yet ... The $ fits and hes been solid against RHP. Does a Edward Cabrera for Kepler work ??
Darragh McDonald
5:17
I don't know about Cabrera specifically. Twins should be competing again next year and would probably prefer a more reliable starter.
As mentioned, Cabrera is going to be out of options next year and the walks are a real problem.
But Kepler could fit on the Marlins, sure.
5:18
Okay, we're over an hour now, so I have to cut it off and pivot to some other stuff. Thanks for all the questions!
We've got a few more of these outlooks/chats to come and then the offseason fun begins!
Enjoy the rest of your day!
