We're back, with another full queue. Reminder if you're still entering questions, gimme gimme some context and player choices rather than opened ended questions. Deal? Good ... Let's roll!

Brent,

You did such a wonderful job with last week's "either/or" game. Ready for another round? Who would you rather have for the next 2 years between:

  1. A. Austin Riley and B. Ke'Bryan Hayes?
  2. A. Manuel Margot and B. Tommy Pham?
  3. A. Spencer Torkelson and B. Riley Greene?
  4. A. Alec Manoah and B. Sandy Alcantara?
  5. A. George Kirby and B. Logan Gilbert?
  6. A. Vidal Brujan and B. Gavin Lux?

Thank you for playing!

Jeffrey

Wow, that's an early evaluation given you had one week of returns! But thanks for coming back...
  1. Riley
  2. Margot
  3. Greene
  4. Alcantara
  5. Gilbert
  6. Lux

Hiya Brent,

Quick re-draft question to assess my sanity! Am I crazy for wanting to trade Acuna for Buxton? Both are injury concerns, but it just seems to me that it's more likely to be "Buxton's year" this season.

Thoughts?

Thank you! =)
Brent Hershey
12:04
Wouldn't call it crazy ... but don't think I'd do it. Main reason: the fear for Acuña post-injury was the SB drop-off, and even though both have ROS injury risk, I think RA hold more potential value as a 5-cat contributor.

Which of the following three players should be rostered in a 12 team NL/AL 5X5 H2H league - Charlie Blackmon, Justin Turner, Thairo Estrada?
Brent Hershey
12:04
Right now, Blackmon. Coors.
Will

Brent, thank you for the help.do you think pollock is still hurt?
Brent Hershey
12:07
Could be, but plate skills have taken a step back and he's at the age (34) where that happens. That team situation (they are thin already due to injury) likely isn't helping ... if it's a nagging something w/ Pollock, he might be more willing to be playing through.

Franchy Cordero? Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:10
Maybe? Too early to tell, tho has been a Statcast darling in the past in short spurts. More likely that BOS doesn't quite think Casas is ready and this is an intermediate step.

Concerned about Holmes overuse? Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:11
Not at this point. May skills an uptick over April's. Worth monitoring, however.

Do you think Trevor Rogers has turned it around?
Brent Hershey

Not entirely, no. And BHQ subscribers have a sense of why I say that. One of the perks ... https://www.baseballhq.com/subscribe

Good afternoon Brent, I am in an NL only 5x5 league with 10 teams and just lost Tyler Megill-options are slim as SP. Who would you recommend (if any) of Jakob Junis, Nick Martinez (may get bumped from rotation) David Peterson (if he gets the call) Wade Miley or wait for a Mike Minor or Andrew Heaney to come back. I lead the league in saves but Art Warren and Ian Kennedy are also available and might be good trade bait-thoughts?
Brent Hershey
12:17
Junis and Peterson (assuming he's the Mets move, which makes sense but is not confirmed) stand out to me. Even better if you can bench Peterson this week. I'd not be 100% committed to either long-term, but decent staring points. Other option as a short-term flyer is Kennedy for this week -- ARI w/ 8 games and that CL situation seems tenuous.
Would not consider Miley/Minor.

Is Vidal Brujan going to make any kind of fantasy impact this year?
Brent Hershey
12:19
If he runs into a full-time gig, then yes. The chances of that happening this year in TAM? 15-20%??? Frustrating reality for fantasy, no doubt. But TAM wins with this formula. Every year.

Sandy Alcantara had a nice outing in his most recent start, but still kind of wild.  Do you think he reigns it in moving forward?
Brent Hershey
12:21
I do; that walk rate is way out of character for him; he's young/athletic enough to get it straightened out. Baffling, esp after 2H gains last year, but I'm still holding.

Struggling for saves in a roto league, but happily rostering guys like, Duran, Helsley, J Lopez, and Floro at the moment.  If still struggling in a month, how aggressive would you be trying to acquire established closers via trade?
Brent Hershey
12:24
I think that's a solid plan; I would be aggressive at that point. My crystal ball says Duran is the main guy in MIN at that point, and Helsley and Lopez could be getting a hefty share of their team's saves too. I think Floro is churnable; would rather have another "in waiting" guy there (Félix Bautista? Vest?) than him.

Brett, thanks for the vine. In AL-only league. In the AL, the closer carousel has gotten pretty settled -- seemingly firm closers in Oak., Minn., Balt., KC., etc. Any thoughts on further saves speculation? Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:27
As per my last answer, I'm not as convinced as you that right now that quartet is "settled." Some decent options, but still a lot of volatility IMO, largely b/c in MIN/BAL/KC, not sure they are currently a "one guy" team.

Hi Brent. Deep NL 5x5 league.  Is Lorenzo Cain done-done?  Any reason to hold him on bench any longer?
Brent Hershey
12:29
All depends on the other options you have. If he's on your bench now, I'd probably cut bait and look for a flyer somewhere else. But if he's starting for you, think you have to hold and hope. There are worse team/park situations, after all.

Here's a question I never saw myself asking - but is Jace Peterson worth a pick up in NL 5x5? He plays everyday and has 5 SBs & 3HRs - ?
Also, will anyone get a save or a save situation in Cincinnati? And is Almora worth grabbing?
Brent Hershey
12:30
A) It's possible, especially if Adames misses time. Again, in NL only.
B) No. Actually, yes, but no reason to fish for saves there (which I assume is behind your question)
C) Highly doubt it.

Thoughts on underperformers in obp league: Kike Hernandez, Amed Rosario, Avisail Garcia, Franmil Reyes
Brent Hershey
12:35
Hernandez: plate skills (and more importantly, walk rate) still fine; BABIP needs to correct for OBP. Power outage disconcerting, tho.
Rosario, Avi: unlikely to be OBP assets anyway; like Avi more b/c of power potential
Franmil: overall still a mess, but May so far skills have been in line w/ history. Still paying for the brutality of Apr

Given how putrid their pen is, his peculiar usage to date and the upside of his raw "stuff" should Boston consider trying T. Houck as their Closer?
Brent Hershey
12:36
In theory, perhaps. In practicality -- if they won't do that with Whitlock (proven late-inning success), why would they try it w/ Houck?

In a 12 team mixed 5x5, is Alek Thomas a valid replacement for Margot or should I just hold Margot on the DL?
Brent Hershey
12:38
If you have to cut Margot ( it's either one or the other), I'd hold. But Thomas a borderline 12-team add right now.

12 team 5x5: Should I drop Carrasco for Kitteridge? Kitt would be a secondary source of sv's while still collecting W's and ratios. Carrasco in Coors sounds like bench time either way. Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:41
While I agree that CC is a Coors sit, I don't think I'd cut for Kittredge this week. I'm a AK fan in general for the reasons you state, but feel like CC will be better for your squad long-term

Hi Brent, thanks as always for taking the time to do this. I'm in a H2H points league that really rewards good pitching -- e.g. 1.5 PTS for an inning, 7 PTS for a quality start. Would you drop any of Ober, Zimmermann, or Eflin for one of the following who are on the WW: Kikuchi, Bradish, D. Lynch?
Brent Hershey
12:44
Like Kikuchi the best of the WWs; probably over Ober, given the possible rustiness and shorter start? Maybe Eflin, as it's been silence on his C19 and would be either SD or LA matchup this week should he return

Aaron Ashby flashed his upside yesterday. Are the Brewers likely to rely and return to a 6-man rotation? If not, can Ashby overtake Houser?
