Sometimes the breaks go against you...but you're getting Mookie back soon, see if you can start digging out of the whole even before Lindor gets back, then reassess when he does. At least you have some trade chips...

Hi Ray! Thanks for the chat! Amy chance the Reds could give more PT to D Myers at the expense of Friedl? Myers is testing it up and Friedl—isn’t
Ray Murphy
12:40
Myers is hitting .286 with a .200 xBA in 52 PA. 1 HR, 2 SB. Doesn't seem like a huge case for more playing time. He's walking, so that's nice. Friedl's been better in the last week, maybe his cold start is over.

Thanks Ray! NL-Only OBP/R/RBI/TB/NetSB. Hunting bags. Wondering what your take is on Tyler Black long term when MIL gets back to full strength? Feels like he is an upgrade offensively against RHB over Hamilton/Ortiz at 3B but not sure about the glove. Thanks again!
Ray Murphy
12:41
Black's been kicking around that org for a while and it seems like they go out of their way to not give him a long look in the bigs. I don't think that's about to change... unless he keeps hitting the way he has in his 18 AB, but I don't think that's going to last either.

NL only.  I have ended up with too many SPs.  Please rank ROS:  RNelson, RLopez, CRea, Wrobleski.  I should probably cut 2 of these soon.
Ray Murphy
12:42
Rea is just filler, he's the first cut. Next one is Nelson or Lopez, not Wrobleski.
Kent

I have been offered Yandy Diaz for Roman Anthony. Anthony might be a keeper next year 800 AB’s is the cutoff. OBP league. Thoughts? Thanks
Ray Murphy
12:42
Keep Anthony.

Feels like Jack Perkins is starting to be used like a traditional closer in the last couple outings. Do you think he runs with the job?
Ray Murphy
12:43
Mentioned him above... I don't know that they'll stop the multi-inning thing altogether, but he's got a big share of the job at least, and I think he can hold it.

Please rank these catchers for ROS 5x5.. Basallo, Herrera, Jensen, Hicks
Ray Murphy
12:43
That order looks good. Herrera/Jensen pretty close.

Happy May 1 to anyone holding onto struggling players! Like any investment, there are times when you have to sell off a losing position. In my opinion, being able to decipher if patience or action is required = fantasy success. I often lean towards patience but i often end up kicking myself over it bc the struggling assest i wanted to sell low on just keeps on struggling to the point where i can no longer sell. Are there any sub indicators for batters/pitchers you like to lean on to determine whether they can right the ship? Thanks!

I'm quicker to give up on pitchers in general... with hitters, you can see some of the metrics I've used in this chat. I like QBaB a lot for small samples, also like checking overall splits for last week or two to look for signs of turnaround that haven't popped in the full-season line yet.

Sometimes just scanning a game log can make things jump at you. For instance, one of my favorites right now is Marcelo Mayer... check his game log. He's hitting a little better lately, nothing remarkable/no power. But he also has struck out only once in the last three weeks. That seems like a pretty good indication that he's figuring out major league pitching. I'm expecting a step forward in May.

I am competing but in dead last in all ratio categories in a 12 team AL only.   Slow starts from Vinnie P, Roman Anthony Garrett Crochet, Trevor Rogers seem to be the drivers but I am getting worried.  How in the world do I dig out of that hole?  Or is it even possible?
Ray Murphy
12:49
Losing Crochet is tough for sure. Start by excising your worst ratio killers. First step to getting out of a hole is to stop digging. Stabilize with some RPs, whatever it takes. There's a lot of ball left... retrench first, then maybe you get some positive regression and you start climbing.

Hi Ray, I always enjoy these chats. Rarely is it that I don't come away better informed. Thanks for considering this question.

16 team H2H Points league. We start 6 RPs and this week 2 of mine have bombed badly: Hunter Gaddis and Kenley Jansen, I am reluctant to start either next week. I can replace either or both with Ian Seymour and Brent Hurter. I rank the 2 in that order. I have not seen that Gaddis or Jansen are injured or fatigues (which seems to be the current fad). Start Seymour and/or Hurter?

2nd question: Baty or Shaw for short term and for long term?

Thanks again for responding.
Ray Murphy
12:51
I'd get away from Jansen for a bit, sure. Less worried about Gaddis. (BTW, "bombed badly" is 2 ER in an outing? Harsh...).

Big fan of both Baty and Shaw. Give me Shaw if you have to pick one, I will trust that he's going to find enough ABs.

Outlook for Moises Ballesteros ROS in a 12 team mix with OPS instead of BA? He is already C eligible in Yahoo leagues.
Ray Murphy
12:51
If he's C eligible, he's a must-add.

12:54
Thank you for the chat; weekly h2h pts league where the extremes for a starter could be anywhere from 80 pts to -50 points (It's volatile)....Would you give McLean for Eury and Luzardo? Thank you
Ray Murphy
12:54
Yeah, I like all 3 a lot, so I'll take the side where I get two of them.

12:55
hi Ray, which are your 3 favorites (in order of preference with gaps if any) closer options for ROS among : Perkins, finnegan, joyce, gus varland, faucher, phillips mia, senzatella? thank you
Ray Murphy
12:55
Perkins is the runaway winner here. It's kind of all darts after that... Finnegan probably next. Too early to say on Joyce's return, but obviously the gig is sitting there waiting for him (or Yates) to take. Senzatela's interesting in a multi-inning/save a week with good ratios kind of way, but I don't think he gets a big saves share.
Chris
12:57
thoughts on Jose Soriano rest of season?
Ray Murphy
12:57
Well the 97% strand rate won't last, but 2.92 xERA says he's been very good as well as lucky. I like our projection... 3.69 ERA for rest of the year. Let's hope he stays healthy for 139 more innings.
Chris
12:59
Does griffin Jax have any value this year? Between him and Devin Williams my ratios have been hit hard… any respite coming?
Ray Murphy
12:59
Relievers are awfully volatile. We know Jax is a good pitcher, we can assume if he were hurt he'd be shut down. So, I assume he'll get better if you can hang on long enough. But I admit it's not easy to hold. I'd be open to other options, but I don't know what yours look like.

Seems like they're going to spread it around.

Hi Ray, Is Merrill Kelly cooked? Worth stashing on a deep bench in hopes of a turnaround?
Ray Murphy

At his age, I think we have to be concerned that he's cooked.

Ray, do you think Texas will do something about second base and maybe bring up somebody

What to do with Devers?  injury or father time has slowed his baseball skills to the depths
Ray Murphy
1:02
He's 29, doesn't seem like it should be Father Time's work just yet. It's bad, though. But he's started slow before, gotta hold longer on a guy like him.

OK, I didn't quite get to everyone, but still a productive hour. Brent will be back in his usual slot on Monday noon here. Have a great weekend, everyone!
