Happy Monday, chatters! Hope the week (or weekend, if you joined me Friday) was good to you and your teams. Getting to the point where sample size is big enough to make some (preliminary) conclusions, and where league standings start to matter. Still a long way to go, though ... but enough small talk, let's get to the chat!

Good Afternoon,                            I am in second place in a 6x6 mixed 14-team rotisserie league where I generally start 6 starters, 2 closers and 2 holds guys.  I have a pretty strong staff with Gausman, Luzardo, Lodolo, Pfaadt, Schwellenbach, Ranger Saurez and Jackson Jobe.  I have Weathers & Kershaw ready to be activated this week and Buehler & Bieber later.                  1) Should I plug in Weathers & Kershaw now, or wait to see how they look?                                      2) Is it time to kick Jobe to the curb or hang on a little longer?      3) Does Suarez have a place here?                                          How would you look at the short run and ROS with this staff?  I can't keep everyone.  I know it is impossible to predict everything, but I also don't want to mess it up, either.  My league-mates (those bast--ds) won't help me with a reasonable trade, either, unless I give up a good pitcher for nothing.

  1. With your current crew, I'd hold on both Weathers and Kershaw for now
  2. Yes, would seem like Jobe would be the first cut (assuming this is a one-year and not a keeper)
  3. Yes, I think so. VG quality start / good MLB team vibes when he's on
  4. Overall, Jobe is a lynchpin here. Not sure I would expect a whole lot out of Buehler, and Bieber is an unknown, also. Keep/hold this depth for as long as you can ... if/when guys get hurt, you'll likely have backups.

Good luck!

Great to see another Monday, Brent!

Closer talk today ...

Would you "sell high" on Carlos Estevez to "buy low" on Ryan Walker?

Also, aside from Clase and Williams, who are some buy low and/or underappreciated closer targets worth mentioning?

Thank you!
Brent Hershey
12:12
Don't think I would on the Estevez/Walker deal. Walker just not proven to be the full-season no-doubt guy; Estevez has more of the "proven" tag. I get the idea, but would hold.

The buy low/underappreciated depends a ton on your league and format, as well as knowing the managers and roles on each MLB team. I'm watching CIN closely, for instance, and not going full commit on anyone from DET or PHI.

2 catcher league roto 5x5 dingler, wells, quero, or bart
Brent Hershey
12:13
Wells, probably, though all would seem like good options.

Hi Brent, thanks for answering this question. 16 team H2H Points league

We start 5 SPs. My first 4 are:
Valdez vs KC, @TEX
Boyd vs CWS
May vs LAA
Woo vs NYY (Always a trifle leery vs Yankees)

My 5th and final starter Comes from:
Bibee @CIN (poor rating -. 4)
Bubic @HOU (+.2)
G. Williams vs MIL (+.5)
Cabrera @TB (+.3)

I rank them Bubic, Williams, Bibee................Cabrera

Also Evan Carter or Eli White in for Oneil Cruz (back) ?

Thoughts? Advice?
Brent Hershey
12:14
Bubic for sure ... then Bibee/Williams/Cabrera

Carter over White

Who are some of your favourite AL buys currently?
Brent Hershey
12:15
Don't usually answer questions this broad, but picked up a bunch of Addison Barger last night.
Buff

11 team NL 5x5 roto keeper, please rank for current year and future (3-5 years): Kyle Harrison, Landen Roupp, Dustin May, Griffin Canning.
Brent Hershey
12:16
Current: Canning, May, Roupp, Harrison
Future: May, Harrison, Canning, Roupp

Thanks for everything you do.   Rank 'em ROS (12-team, 4x4 Roto, AL-Only):  M. Lugo, A. Barger, A. Roden, C. Thomas, R. Laureano.
Brent Hershey
12:17
Barger, Laureano, Lugo, Roden, Thomas

4x4 AL only ROS kremer or dobbins? thank you Brent!
Brent Hershey
12:17
Dobbins, though could be bumpy against DET this week

12:19
The Ryan Walker experience has to be coming to an end right? The swinging strikes have disappeared. I'm losing faith.
Brent Hershey
12:19
Things can turn around quickly ... but as I mentioned above, his lack of track record is a bit worrisome (and I say that as one who has Walker rostered in several places). With Doval there, it could get interesting soon.
Kelly
12:23
Love this chat, Brett! Two softballs for you =)

Is Carson Kelly legit? He was a guy on many folks' radar a number of years ago before injuries. Is it all coming together?

Also, what's wrong with Rengifo??? He has always been atop my binky list. Is he a buy low? Wonder if that wrist is at full strength yet.

Thanks as always!!!
Brent Hershey
12:23
Thanks, Kelly!

  1. I think yes ... though relevant Q is whether he's hampered a bit by the situation (Cubs also like Amaya and ABs are close to 50/50 so far). I'm riding, but not expecting, say, some dynasty/keeper relevance
  2. Yeah, disappointing -- especially that he's not running. I also wonder about his injuries. I'm off where I have other options.
Steve
12:24
Jake Burger may be on his was back to the major league roster. What do you expect ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:24
Very possible that he rebounds (big power, lotsa Ks, middling BA), and would LOVE to have him doing that against COL pitchers starting tonight. Fingers crossed.
Steve
12:24
Thoughts on Max Meyer after his third straight rough outing?
Brent Hershey
12:24
A bit baffling, as good as he was in the first handful and the changes he had made. I'm still holding, but benching for now where I can.
Rick
12:27
Hey Brent, Royce Lewis has been terrible since getting back plus he's always getting hurt. Are you still sold on him long-term or is his talent just not enough to keep rostering him, even in a dynasty league?
Brent Hershey
12:27
Even with that talent, gotta stay on the field. Until he proves he can do that, I'm skeptical of drafting him and certainly not moving to acquire in a dynasty/keeper format.

12:32
Pick two for this week please...B Lively, Pepiot, M Meyer, D May......thank you!
Brent Hershey
12:32
Our numbers say May and Meyer by a big margin. There are times when I go against our ratings, and this might be one. Think I'd prefer Pepiot here to Max. Lively not really a consideration, even w/ the two-step, given your other alternatives.

12:35
hiho hiho off to roto we go. Start luisangel Acuna or Colt Keith this week - 5x5 in w obp. Matt Brash or either kikuchi (2 starts tough opponents) or Megill against yanks or Heaney at Philly (brash vs sps with tough matchups in 5x5 with solds)
Brent Hershey
12:35
  1. Think I'd ride Keith this week
  2. Megill
Willie in NJ
12:35
Any chance we see either David Robertson or Dalton Rushing in the bigs this year?  Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:35
No and yes (though my guess is it's not with LA)
Brian K
12:37
Good Morning Brent, 5X5 16 team redraft, Any news on the ETA on Chase Burns (Cincy) and Zebby Matthews (Minny)?
Brent Hershey
12:37
I feel like Burns is unlikely for 2025; Matthews could really be at any point Festa getting the shot first earlier this season is a bit of pause. But I'd think both are in rotation by July or so
Chaz Rhinehold
12:38
12 team H2H points league. Who do like better this week for utility, Josh h smith or Barger?
Brent Hershey
12:38
Smith, barely, in a points league
Frank Robinson
12:41
Of the following three players, who is most likely to come out of the fog sooner than later: Max Muncy, Michael Harris, or Willy Adames?
Brent Hershey
12:41
Harris; too young and talented. Adames not that far off from 2023, really. I think repeating 2024 was always a bit of long-shot
Buff
12:44
NL only roto keeper. Any interest in Daniel Palencia as a stealth sleeper closer?
