I figured a mid-afternoon chat was a good way to kick off the holiday weekend. Based on the queue, you guys agree with me. Let's get after it....

Has Konnor Griffin “settled in” and is now gonna be that guy?
Ray Murphy
3:00
I don't know that we can use past tense here, as if the process is done. But it seems to be going well... contact is trending nicely, he's running a lot. Starting to see some power too. I wouldn't get carried away with expectations just yet, the power in particular could take a while to blossom. But I think we can all see why he was the universal #1 prospect.

Hi, Ray  10 team NL only.  Need Saves.                        Santillan, Murphy, Mejia  Please rank.  Thanks
Ray Murphy
3:01
I think Santillan is just "in the mix" until Pagan comes back. Mejia seems to have the gig in Colorado for the moment, if he can stay effective. Not sure which Murphy we're talking about....

Hi Ray, thanks for taking my question. NFBC 15-tm 5x5. With Holmes out and Chandler getting worse every start (probably to be replaced by Jared Jones), how would you rank the following available SPs ROS: G. Rodriguez, M. Perez, Miles, Kay, Giolito, Gasser? Not sure I can wait until Melton and Jared Jones get called up. Also, any idea how the Dodgers’ rotation will shape up with Lauer and potentially River Ryan being stretched into starters?
Ray Murphy
3:03
Woof to that list. I'd probably take the shot at Giolito, or maybe Grayson fromt hat group. As for the Dodgers, I wouldn't expect any stability there... they're just going to patchwork it all summer. Ryan might be an interesting speculation. I think we know what Lauer is, and it's not that exciting.

Is Cole Carrigg worth stashing in a NA category in  a 12 team, H2H both leagues with steals as one of 26 categories?
Ray Murphy
3:05
As always, I'm the wrong guy for prospect questions. But Carrigg is raking in Triple-A (it's Albuquerque, so everyone rakes), and he can definitely run. Seems like someone who could get a second-half look.

Hi Ray, Colt Keith has shown no power, sits vs lefties, and isn't even hitting for average lately. How do you value him ROS and how would you value him in a Dynasty League? Thanks
Ray Murphy
3:05
I've always liked the bat, but you do raise legitimate concerns. I'm more optimistic for dynasty than ROS. We're at the point for ROS where you need to stop being patient.

hi Ray, thank you for doing these chats. Can you rank these SP for ROS; cavalli, peterson, melton, teng, Which one(s) is(are) good enough to replace my curent junk or/and madden?
Ray Murphy
3:06
Cavalli's the clear winner here and the only one I'd target from your list.

which reliever most likely to collect some saves moving forward (Kittredge, Finnegan, Tyler Rogers, Sabrowski, or Daniel Lynch
Ray Murphy
3:07
Maybe I'm just stubborn, but I'm still saying Finnegan. I question Jansen's ability to hold that gig all summer.

If A's are in contention come ASB, do you think they would trade for an SP?   I mean all things are possible, but you know the front offices better than I do... (I usually have the feeling that they will do nothing to better the current situation until Vegas).
Ray Murphy
3:09
I think this is a case where you need to separate "front office" from "ownership". I think FO is always trying to win/better the team. They may have restrictions from ownership, but yes, I think FO will be willing to make moves to win now if the opportunity is there.

Hi Ray--14 tm mixed. I'm desperate to improve my pitching and have some good trade hitters to trade. Problem is, it's not terribly obvious which pitchers I should be looking to get rid of (either by packaging them or just dropping). Of this bunch, who would you be looking to replace...or should I just hold all a bit longer to see what develops? Baz, Painter, Imai, E. Perez. Also have Prielipp, Eovaldi, McLanahan, and Gilbert...any of whom could, I guess, be packaged to trade up, especially if you think it's downhill from here on any of them...

Thanks and have a great weekend!
Ray Murphy
3:11
Much as I want to believe in Baz, he's been a mess. Painter looks like he might be turning a corner, at least. And I loved Eury so much this winter I'm willing to give him some more rope. Was never much of an Imai fan.

If you can sell high on Prielipp, I'd do that.

Hi Ray,   I am in a 6X6 14-team mixed rotisserie league where I can field five outfielders and two utility players, so I have to make some tough decisions.  One of the outfielders/U is temporarily resolved because I had to move Ivan Herrera to catcher while Baldwin is on the IL, but that is only temporary.  So right now I have Herrera, J. Rodriguez, Yelich, Simpson, Marsee, Bolte, Burger, Ballesteros and J. Dominguez IL.  And I am considering adding Dylan Crews with the hope that he will reach the potential I hoped for all year last year.  Who would you recommend for ROS to cut and who is untouchable, unless I find a trade that I can't refuse.  Can't keep them all.  Thanks
Ray Murphy
3:13
I'd cut Bolte for Crews. I'm losing patience with Marsee but at least he's managing to run without hitting (which is a neat trick). Remember these problems tend to resolve themselves, so don't rush a move before you need to.

With Valdez and Nixon joining the Pitt outfield, what can we expect in terms of playing time?
Ray Murphy
3:16
I'll be curious to see how that plays out this weekend. You could make an RF platoon out of the two of them, with Valdez getting the good side. I think more of an even split is likely though, see if one of them can stake a claim.

It looks like I may have overpaid for Brenton Doyle at the auction - his numbers have been pathetic - and now he's on the IL.  Hold and hope for the best?
Ray Murphy
3:17
Yeah, I had a ton of him coming out of drafts too, and I've been getting away from him. Not worth holding if you have decent alternatives available.

Hi Ray,  I ask about biting the bullet in an NFBC style 18-teamer where I lost Jeffers.
1. I am low on Faab, and the waiver wire will be compettive and offers the likes of J Mack, D Susac, B Valenzuela, M Gasper, M Amaya, M Garver, L Torrens, D Romo, K Higashioka, H Davis, V Caratini.
2. I have CI/MI covered (C Walker, B Lowe, C Emerson, E Suarez, D Swanson, J Caballero, W Castro, and E Duran) and have some bites on Emerson.
3. I dislike investing trade capital in C, but trading for a Basallo, Moreno, or Goodman seems like a much better return than surfing the catcher  wire?
QUESTION: would you (A) trade Emerson and another bat for a Basallo, Moreno, or Goodman or (B) take my chances on the wire and better use that trade capital?
Ray Murphy
3:18
I'd trade for Basallo or Goodman, less sure about Moreno. I don't know your other needs, but I don't really mind trolling the C waiver wire either.

Hi Ray! Thoughts on Littell's excellent recent string of starts/stats? Has he found his groove?

Also, the Pirates brought up Garcia and Valdez - 2 OFs - who gets to play and are either worth rostering?

And, as you're here anyway - what are the Giants doing with Eldridge? I don't understand why they called him up if not to let him play.
Ray Murphy
3:20
Littell... I don't see any excellent starts. Hasn't been PQS-Dom once all year. Isn't K'ing anyone. Don't be fooled, still the same guy.

Covered the PIT OF above.

I don't think anyone understands a lot of what's going on in SF right now.
Ron
3:21
Hi Ray,  what are your best C darts in a deep 18 team league for a team that lost a catcher this week?
Ray Murphy
3:21
Helps if you give me some names to pick from. I was skeptical of Gasper in Boston when he came up, but with Anthony out longer, he starts to look playable. Caratini obviously benefits with Jeffers out. I don't hate Torrens in NY with Alvarez out.
Rockford

AL only, OBP league.  I hope to pick up TMelton and drop 1 of the following from my bench:  DSchneider, LTaveras, CCowser, or Kelenic.  ("Either/or" is acceptable)
Ray Murphy
3:22
The only one of those I'd think twice about cutting is Leody.
Rockford
3:24
NL only, saves/holds.  Please rank:  CRea, RLopez, Lowder, RNelson and JJunk for ROS.    Also, do you think Puk makes it back by June 15?
Ray Murphy
3:24
Tough to endorse anyone in that group.

I think June 15 is about on target for Puk.

Hi Ray, do you better days ahead for me.  My metrics look OK, save my .210 xBA.  I was a set-it-and-forget-it in 15 teamers. No more?
Ray Murphy
3:25
QBaB says you're fine. Just need to stop striking out so much. Everything is fine when bat meets ball.
Brian K

Ray, 5X5 15 team redraft. Which SP will turn it around this year and which won't? Bubba Chandler, Aaron Nola, Sandy Alcantara, Zac Gallen or Tanner Bibee
Ray Murphy
3:27
Optimistic on Sandy, pessimistic on the rest... except Bibee. Not sure why he's on this list. What you see is what you get there.

Ray, thanks for taking my question. Please rank these pitchers for overall performance for ROS: Vasquez SD, G.Holmes ATL, Jax TB, Brown CHC, Matthews MIN, and S.Miles TOR. Thanks
