Greets; Monday chatters! Thanks for coming out ... let's get this started ...

Do you think Nootbaar will have a turnaround this year?
Brent Hershey
12:03
Yes, underlying metrics look good so far. Lots of red on his Statcast page; BHQ xBA of .251; plate control metrics look stable. Jury still out on exactly what he'll be; but pretty certain he's not a sub-.200 BA hitter.

Thanks for answering this request.

16 team H2H Points League.

Some important decisions for upcoming week. We start 5 SPs and my first 4 are all double starts: Gill, Darvish, Buehler and Clevinger. My 5th SP is, in order of preference: Bradish (@WAS), Maeda (@CLE), Ashcraft (ARI), Civale (@NYY) or Cabrera (@LAD). Any of the first 3 work for me.

A CI decsion: Sheets, Santana or Flores. The latter is the most consistent but little upside, Santana hasn'y been dealing and Sheets blows hot and cold.

Lost Trea Turner for an extended period. Can backfill MI spot with one of McNeil, Brujan or Oneil Cruz. None inspire confidence but Cruz has upside though not hitting well.

Finally, DH: Winker, Martinez or Sheets (if not CI)

Thanks for any assistance.
Brent Hershey
12:06
1) Bradish
2) Sheets; facing 5/7 RHP
3) Like Brujan some esp w/ possibility of gaining PT with Arráez on the move ... but that said, Cruz should be rostered in your format I'd think. Would lean Oneil.
4) Winker

Best closer in a very shallow league - Alvarado, McGill, Adams (Fairbanks was also dropped), Jansen
Brent Hershey
12:08
My understanding is that Fairbanks is close to returning — the risk is high b/c of his injury history, but I'd lean him #1. Probably Alvarado #2 though there will be some nights when Thomson will go another way.

thank you Brent, Fedde, Reese Olson, Lively and Criswell ROS 4x4 AL only keeper league in order please
Brent Hershey
12:09
Keeper lg: Olson, Fedde <gap> Criswell, Lively. Lively could sneak up a spot in a re-draft lg; just don't quite trust him long-term yet.

Hi Brent,
12 Team Mixed Redraft with five keepers
H2H Weekly Points - 25 man roster with 16 active, 9 reserves and 5 IL slots
After reading today's PT Tomorrow column, I'm strongly considering adding Cade Horton.  Here's my SP staff at the moment:
Sonny Gray
Grayson Rodriguez
Nick Lodolo
Bryan Bello
Seth Lugo
Blake Snell
Nestor Cortes
Luis Gil
Christopher Sanchez
Slade Cecconi
Jose Butto

Who do I cut, if anyone, to make room?  Or do I stand pat?  I am currently 2-3 after three heartbreaking losses.
As always, appreciate your insight.  Thank you.
Brent Hershey
12:14
Cecconi is the only one I'd consider cutting for Horton in the format you list. Horton is a stash with an unsure debut window; kinda doubt he'd be keeper worthy in a 12 mixed with only 5 spots. Can't see it for anyone else -- guys who are pitching now in the majors with some additional upside in many cases. I'd probably stand pat; that seems like a staff that should be better than 2-3 at this point.

12:16
One more question, do I trust Gil this week?  HOU and @TB
Brent Hershey
12:16
I think you probably can ... our numbers don't LOVE him, but both of the opponents' reputations from recent history far outpace their current output with the bats.
Bob
12:18
Do you think Kimbrel will remain the closer?
Brent Hershey
12:18
I think at the very least there will be some additional hiccups (performance and/or health-related) that we saw last week. When he's healthy, feel like he's the guy -- but it's not top-tier any more. If he already rostered, I think you're holding. If I'm looking for trades or pickups to help out ROS, might explore other opps first.

Brett, 12 team, al only league.  I got Garrett Cooper yesterday and was the only team to submit a bid.  In contrast, Dominic Smith attracted several, higher bids.  Am I missing something here?  Jim
Brent Hershey
12:19
Not for me; I'd pref Cooper to Smith at this point. I'd think your zag should work out!

Hi Brent. Two parter, one strategic and one practical: (1) In H2H categories (12 team OBP), when injuries pile up beyond the limit of IL spots, how many "dead roster spots" are too many? Don't think I've ever had to wrestle with this before but now staring at Suzuki, Yelich, Nolan Jones, Royce Lewis, Gray Rod, Woo, and Evan Phillips, which brings me to (2) who would your first two cuts be from that list?
Brent Hershey
12:25
1) A lot depends on your league context. In a less-active league where others have dead spots, maybe you can get away with it. But OTOH if it's a 12-tm mixed, you should have options to NOT have any dead spots it would seem. Yes, that would mean tough cuts ... but that's kinda what you need to do in 12s.
2) Yep, can see why you're asking this! Sounds like Woo could be back later this week; so if this helps and you're able to do that, I'd activate him now. Then I'd probably cut one of Yelich (chronic back), Jones (far less proven) or Lewis (loooong injury history), taking into account also which one is likely furtherest away from getting back. Can't cut Suzuki or Gray-Rod.
But wow ... good luck!

ROS 15 teamer... which 2B...Luis Garcia, Jorge  Palanco or Joseph Ortiz

12:26
Garcia; partially b/c think the WAS SB binge is for real.

Ben Brown owner, deep NL-only keeper league. Cubs have rotation depth and playoff aspirations. Is Brown tracking toward being a back-end piece to the bullpen only, and could he possibly see leverage situations this year in that role?
Brent Hershey
12:30
It's a fair question ... scouts have long said they wonder if his future is not in the bullpen, and has the two-primary pitch stuff to make it work in theory. It's a couple steps to get there and could take some time, but Alzolay, Neris, etc are "cooperating." Let the Cubs lead you on this one ... if they move (and keep) him in the bullpen, that's one sign. If they slide him back into the rotation and/or send him back to AAA to start, that's also a sign. Brown is an interesting case for sure.

12:32
If Jackson Holiday continues to hit like he did before his promotion, when do you think he is called back up?
Brent Hershey
12:32
I'll bet it's closer to the All-Star Break if all the other BAL infielders stay healthy and they continue to thrive as a team. But if an IF goes down, he certainly seems like the logical first call.

standard 5x5.  Need a 1B until Casas returns.  Ty France, Black, Schanuel, Manzardo are all available.  Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:35
I like the order you have them listed. Ceiling is lower than Casas for all these guys ... but France stands out at the one with the track record. And no real red flags in his usage or metrics. Go with the known.

12 team H2H points league. I have hunter brown and griffin canning. Who would you cut for Cristopher Sanchez on Philly and like for ROS
Brent Hershey
12:37
I think Brown could be close to a Triple-A reset, so that would be my cut. Been a huge "L" for me so far; thought he was ready for the next step. Canning just needs some consistency.

Is Caminero’s call up imminent enough to warrant a hold in all leagues?
Brent Hershey
12:39
No way of knowing for sure when that callup might be ... but from the outside it sure seems like "imminent" is the right word. I've got him stashed in a couple places where I can, though all depends on what your reserve-list squeeze is like. Think he could be a difference-maker when it happens.

flyball pitchers excelling; flyball hitters struggling; is the ball dead again??
Brent Hershey

Probably a bit too early to tell (weather, etc), but there's enough smarter-than-me people out there who are tracking this that we'll get a study on it soon, I'm sure.

Good morning Brent-Couple quick lightning round general AL/NL baseball questions. 1) AL What's your thoughts on Josh Hader rest of year-he and Houston hasn't looked great in the first month. 2) NL In a 12 team 5x5 league, is Mason Black worth a pickup for 2-4 weeks as an injury replacement? 3) NL Saves for Mil-Trevor Megill or  Joel Payamps  best source for saves? As always, your answers are appreciated!
Brent Hershey
12:44
1) Hader has gone through real rough spots before; think he'll be OK
2) In this format, someone will take a shot, right? Philly at home is rough one to swallow, though.
3) I've been on the Megill train so far and don't see a reason to switch lines. Could still be a share until/if DevWilliams returns, but Megill is who I feel best about.

How does playing time shake out in TB when Lowe1, Lowe 2, and Aranda come back? Who is demoted?
Brent Hershey
12:51
I'd think Shenton and Mead get sent out, and maybe one of Deluca or Palacios? Unless they feel they can live with JLowe in CF ... then Siri is a possiblity, though last year he stayed in the lineup with similar struggles. Folks like to say H-Ram will go ... but he just seems like a Rays kinda player that they'll hang onto. Other thing is that not all three should arrive at the same time; things could work themselves out, etc etc.

12:53
Hey Brent, thanks for the chat as always...curious how you feel about HQ's lofty ROS projections for Ceddane Rafaela? Would you rather have him or Morel as a sort of chess piece ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:53
I'd rather have Rafaela, because I think the glove (and his versatility at two premium positions) ensures his ROS PT more than Morel. And that's not to say that Morel won't just lock down 3B, the Cubs live with the glove and just let him mash, etc -- but in probabilities, I think CR has more guaranteed playing time.

Looking a hit spray chart and SSS results, Brujan (back with former Ray FO Mgr). Looks to me he has figured things out for the better. .275, 6 HR, 42 RBI and 25 SB… write it down. Your thoughts? Arreaz trade opens door.
