For a more serious answer, I really wonder if the union is ready to grapple with the pressing privacy concerns that are almost certainly coming for its membership.

You might get this question several times after last night, but I am a huge Bryce Harper fan (living in Seattle). Does last night have any impact in him staying in DC?
Meg Rowley
12:23
I wouldn't think so. The Nationals know Harper's worth. Harper knows Harper's worth. The derby doesn't change that.

12:23
Where will Machado end up?
Meg Rowley
12:24
I should say that Philly is the very close second. It seems like the Yankees are less well positioned, and a grateful nation weeps.

I just stubbed my pinkie toe
Meg Rowley
12:24
I am very sorry. That's the second worst thing that can happen to a person after stepping on a LEGO.

bigger hurdle for the astros in the al playoffs-red sox or yankees?
Meg Rowley
12:27
As things currently stand, I'm inclined to pick the Red Sox just because I think as it currently stands, they (meaning Boston) would have home field. But those three are pretty squished up together in terms of quality in my mind.

Apparently the Machado trade is pending medicals right now. What's the chances the prospects fail the Orioles medical?
Meg Rowley
12:27
Eventually something has to go right, right?

Meg, in just a few years, you went from working for the world's premier investment banking institution to being a baseball blogger to having your own high budget Jaws rip-off. How do you do it?
Meg Rowley
12:29
The bigger question is, how have I, a giant, prehistoric shark, managed to live on land AND avoid devouring our lovely readers at meetups?
Andrew
12:29
Are there any other fangraphs meetups planned for the rest of this season?
Meg Rowley
12:30
The posting will go up shortly, but we'll be doing our usual pre-Saberseminar meetup in Boston on August 3rd. I'll be there, along with various and sundry other FanGraphs personalities.
12:31
And it isn't a FanGraphs meetup per se but I'll be moderating the Mariners Celebrating Women in Baseball night panel on August 21st.

Hi Meg, thanks for the chat. If the Cards end up selling, one name that makes sense to me to move is Miles Mikolas, as he has pitched well and has another year of control for cheap. Any thoughts on why we have not seen more chatter around this?
Meg Rowley
12:32
I'd imagine because, despite his very good performance his year, he doesn't have the track record as this pitcher.
Christian
12:32
When will team prospect lists be updated to include the new draftees?
Meg Rowley
12:32
Soon, I'm told!
Matt
12:32
It's the HR Derby, and it's meant for fun and all that. I get it, and don't really care. But after like the first, or second time in a row that Harper's dad jumped the clock (pretty significantly), shouldn't the ump have said something? I mean...there are rules, and having to wait until the ball hits is the penalty for hitting moonshots instead of liners...
Meg Rowley
12:33
You are very free to care about whatever things you want to, but I can't join you in caring. No part of me cares. No part of me wonders if it is even true.
Christian
12:34
Danny Duffy has been pitching well of late. Does this mean there was truth to the rumor that he was tipping pitches and he finally got it figured out?
Meg Rowley
12:34
I haven't done the video work necessary to answer that second part. It might just be that he's been executing better.
Christian
12:34
Does Danny Duffy's resurgence of late make him more likely to be dealt at the deadline?
Meg Rowley
12:35
Sure. They should try to move anything not nailed down. Trade the bases themselves even.
...
12:35
How long will it be until the Mariners make the postseason? Can we start making them a Browns-style punchline yet?
Meg Rowley
12:35
This is very rude, and you should feel bad, and also, gosh those A's should be making every Mariners fan nervous.
AC
12:35
Did you watch the celebrity softball game?
Meg Rowley
12:36
I did not.
A big dumb idiot
12:36
Is there any fear that Machado is a Machadon't?
Meg Rowley
12:36
I do not have any such fears.
Bort
12:36
Couldn't the Dodgers just move on from Forsythe by, you know, not playing him? They have Kike + Muncy + Barnes + Taylor and then a whole slough of outfielders -- more than enough depth.
Meg Rowley
12:36
They could but here is the thing: they could also trade for and then play Manny Machado.
12:37
I understand wanting to hold on to prospects. I don't understand fans worrying about ownership's money, but I understand that it happens for some weird reason. But I think we sometimes outsmart ourselves on this stuff.
12:38
Organizations have to make thoughtful decisions, and sometimes you trade away a guy who becomes a star, but sometimes you're the Cubs and you win a World Series so...
A&W
12:39
Who, if anybody, should the Angels be selling off this deadline?
Meg Rowley
12:39
I wouldn't be surprised if they don't do much, and hope to just get back to it next year.
James
12:39
Is Alex Bregman a right handed Joey Votto?
Meg Rowley
12:40
That wouldn't be my most immediate comp as a player, though we should absolutely talk about Bregman a whole lot more than we do, so I guess he's Votto-esque in that way.
