Can we start a petition to move the Future's Game from a day with baseball to Wednesday?
Meg Rowley
12:41
I fully support this. It is a weird, annoying quirk of the schedule that probably has a reason, but not a good enough one?

Was the real reason you went into the mountains to get information on the mountain-dwelling baseball team's job posting?
Meg Rowley
12:43
I went to the mountains to take advantage of being able to look out at nature while I edited and then have hiking very, very close at hand.
One of the amazing benefits of working from home is that provided I have good internet, I can go to the mountains and still fulfill my professional obligations.

If Manny does end up in LA or even Philly, will he resign there in the off season?
Meg Rowley
12:44
I imagine that wherever he goes will have some advantage provided the experience is good, but he probably will and probably should test the market.

I don't get why people feel interleague play has so devalued the ASG. Sure, you *might* get to see, say, a few Betts vs. Scherzer plate appearances over the course of the season, but how often do you see all of these guys on the field at once? It's very different from interleague play!!
Meg Rowley
12:45
I think that most people think the quality of play in the All-Star Game has devalued the All-Star Game.

Uh, Mariners might want to try being good again before Oakland catches them. What moves can they make to stop this?
Meg Rowley
12:46
Just some good baseball moves ought to do it.

Here's my idea for the HR Derby - no format, no rounds, everybody gets a set amount of time to grip it and rip it, most home runs wins. Like the end of that one simpsons episode, all I want to see is dingers. Dingers! Dingers! Dingers!
Meg Rowley
12:47
The current format gives you stakes and tension, and varies the hitter you're seeing. You also get to see how they are able to endure. I think they've landed on a pretty optimal approach.

Benintendi + JD + Mookie = best OF in majors. Who's OF would rank #2?
Meg Rowley
12:49
Yankees probably. On a pure WAR basis they are second. The Cubs and Brewers have the best defensive outfields by our metrics, with the usual defensive metrics are squishy in half-season samples caveat.

Hi Meg! Last night I had a friendly conversation with a buddy who was convinced that the shift was bad for baseball’s bottom line (and so destined for banishment). I told him that I didn’t think that the shift was prevalent or successful enough to have that much of an effect on things like ticket sales - at least not on its own - but that these dudes are welcome to bunt all the same. He said fans aren’t buying tickets to watch the Harpers of the world bunt, and I guess that’s reasonable. I think I’m a bit behind on the topics du jour, but what are your thoughts here?
Meg Rowley
12:51
Well first, I think it is good to acknowledge that it isn't "as simple" as laying down a bunt. Bunting is hard, and as it isn't particularly popular, not something that a lot of guys spend time doing. And I think there is something to the idea that we'd rather see Joey Gallo swing away than bunt.
But as for the larger question, I think that these things have a way of self-correcting.
12:52
We're already seeing more research calling the efficacy of the shift into question, which suggests that many teams will (or already have) start to refine their strategy.

Will there be an All Star live blog tonight?
Meg Rowley
12:52
I don't believe so?

Would any fan be upset if Trout, Betts and Judge played the entire game tonight? Who here doesn't want to see that?
Meg Rowley
12:53
Fans of other teams?
I think that you're underestimating what it can mean to some fans to see their guy out there as one of the best.

Trout has a .739 OPS with 2 HR, 2 RBI and 0 WAR in the past 23 games. Anything to be worried about and is he still the favorite for MVP over Betts and J-Ram?
Meg Rowley
12:55
I guess it is a little closer but seeing as no one expects him to stay in a slump, I imagine it is a hiccup. Betts and Ramirez have tied it up on the WAR leaderboard though.

Do you think this is the year that Chris Sale figures out how to pich in the 2nd half of the season and finally gets the Cy Young?  He feels too good for this pattern to continue.
Meg Rowley
12:55
He'd be my vote.

Do you think it would make sense for the Dodgers to sell high on Matt Kemp, in order to clear space on their payroll?
Meg Rowley
12:56
I think they should keep a player who is playing well and get another player who is playing well and remember they have a zillion dollars.

Pretty sure the bases are nailed down... (?)

They aren't nailed down.

Can we agree that Maximum Muncy is a delightful nickname?

We can!

He sounds like, and this might just be me, but he sounds like the lead singer of a Halloween themed band that only plays the Monster Mash

Does Turner move to 2nd if the Dodgers get Manny?
Meg Rowley

I'd imagine Taylor would go to second, and they'd put Manny at short, at least in the beginning

Do you think the Cubs' championship justifies what they gave up for Chapman? On the one hand, they won the championship. On the other, they would have made the playoffs easily without him and he was pretty bad in the playoffs.
