I think so. It's only 1.5MM and he had a 128 wRC+ this year.

I argue that it will be very difficult to build a strong farm system if the Mets go over the top CBT threshold for three or more years.  Do you disagree?
Darragh McDonald
2:18
It certainly makes it harder.
David
2:18
Eovaldi or Senga make sense for the Mets?
Darragh McDonald
2:19
Yeah, for sure. If they end up losing deGrom, I could see them getting a couple of guys like this.
Fred
2:20
Could the Mets try and pry Clase away from the Guardians to replace Diaz?
Darragh McDonald
2:21
I don't think there's any reason for Cleveland to trade Clase.

Is Degrom with what he is going to command wi Ty his injury history? I get that he is a world beater when healthy but he is 34 and having a lot of trouble staying healthy.
2:22
Is Degrom worth what he is going to command in FA? I know he is a beast when healthy but it seems like he has been made of glass and is 34.
Darragh McDonald
2:22
Whoops. Didn't realize this was the same questioner.
But, yes, that will be a big question for deGrom's market. Huge talent but big risk.
2:23
But we just saw Verlander get essentially a 2/50 deal after missing almost two full years with TJS.
He had to get to 110 innings to trigger the option for the second year, but still.
2:24
And he apparently had many similar offers. Teams will pay for aces even if there's risk.
I need to confer with a colleague. One moment.
Brad
2:25
What odds would you give Stearns to the Mets?
Darragh McDonald
2:26
I'd say very low. It doesn't seem like it's happening.
2:27
Cohen said they're not interested, which makes sense. It would be hard to move on from Eppler after one fairly successful season.
They are looking for a president to work above Eppler, but that person will apparently be more of a businessperson. Eppler will still make the baseball decisions.

Poll Time: Who’s more likely to resign with the Mets? Jacob deGrom (assuming he opts out), Edwin Díaz, or Brandon Nimmo.
Darragh McDonald
2:28
Good idea.
Who is more likely to re-sign with the Mets?

Jacob deGrom (9.6% | 19 votes)

Brandon Nimmo (21.8% | 43 votes)

Edwin Diaz (68.5% | 135 votes)

Are you bringing back player chats this offseason?
Darragh McDonald
2:29
I can't speak for Tim. My guess is that he'd love to do more, but it's not our main focus right now.
2:30
This is a key time of year for us, as I'm sure you're aware. It would probably make more sense for a quieter time.

What’s a realistic trade with James McCann?
Gary
2:30
Is trading McCann an option for anything.
Darragh McDonald
2:31
They'd probably have to eat a lot of the money to get anything, unless it's a trade for another underwater contract.

Anybody still shocked by Mets out, Phils in?
Darragh McDonald
2:32
The playoffs are pretty random. The Dodgers have been one of the best teams in baseball for about a decade but have just one title to show for it.
2:33
But that's why they're fun!

If the Mets don’t keep any of their top 3 free agents but sign a bunch of second tier guys to fill the gaps can they compete with the Braves and Phillies next year?
Darragh McDonald
2:34
I think it's possible, sure. It would depend on continued development of Baty, Vientos, Alvarez, etc.
Brian
2:34
Who is the mets opening day catcher?
Darragh McDonald
2:34
Excellent question. I'll say Nido but it's not clearcut.
2:35
Nido ended up in the top 10 among catchers for DRS and FanGraphs framing.
Bobby
2:35
Is Francisco Alvarez our 2023 starting catcher?
Darragh McDonald
2:36
He's in the mix but he's only played 50 games above Double-A.
I can see it, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they give him a bit more time in the minors. He's not even 21 years old yet.

Any chance the Mets trade for Ohtani
