I don't know how much a few spring home runs change the evaluation.

New York Groove.

Fun Fact! The last two WS MVP winners for NYM wore #22 (Clendenon/Knight). If 2023 is the Mets year to win it all, that means Baty will be in the lineup come the Fall Classic.

I haven't fact-checked this, but there you go.

Do you think the Mets hire David Stearns to be VP of Baseball Operations this winter?
Darragh McDonald
11:56
Depends what Stearns wants, I guess. Those VP jobs are usually temporary landing spots while guys wait for their next GM/President gig. Stearns is already kind of doing that right now by stepping back his role with the Brewers.

Are the Mets in any rush to extend Alonso after the McNeil extension?  He seems like our next Captain if so
Darragh McDonald
11:57
He's only going to get more expensive as he gets closer to free agency, so there's a rush in that sense.
11:58
But I doubt they're panicking or anything like that. If they want to get it done, they will.

Favorite place to eat in NYC?
Darragh McDonald
11:59
I went to New York a bunch in my 20s, but I was always poor and eating cheap. Spent a lot of time at some bar in Brooklyn that gave free pizza when you bought a beer.

Oops!  I thought VP was above GM.  Then, do you think they hire Stearns for President of Baseball Oops over Eppler.
Darragh McDonald
12:00
The Mets have said that they are looking for a president that's more a business person and the GM would still be in charge of the baseball decisions. So, I don't think Stearns would be the fit there.

Why are fans  so obsessed with Mauricio after this start to spring? Saw him at AA last year, big body with good power but lots of issues making contact.  Local sports talk callers keep hyping him too.

People love dingers.
But yeah, I agree. The plate discipline will be the bigger thing for him going forward.

If Scherzer and Verlander are hurt for an extended period of time plus Quintana who will take over in the rotation?!
Darragh McDonald
12:02
In that nightmare scenario, I guess you're looking at Senga, Carrasco, Peterson, Megill and Lucchesi. But they'd probably have to swing a trade or something, depending on when it happened.

Do you think it’s a good idea for the Mets to carry more than one lefty in the pen? Seems like Raley is the only lefty locked into the pen at this point.
Darragh McDonald
12:02
I don't think you need to have lefties, necessarily. Astros won the World Series last year without really having on. They grabbed Will Smith but didn't use him much.
12:03
You just have to have righties that can get lefties out. I'd have to dig into the numbers on their relievers to see if that applies to anyone they have.
But they could always select a T.J. McFarland or something.

Okay, we've gone over an hour, so I have to get to some other stuff.
Thanks for all the questions and apologies for the ones I couldn't get to.

We've got a couple more chats coming up on the site today, with Jim Duquette at 3pm Central and then Anthony's weekly chat a few hours later.
And we'll be doing more of these team-specific ones in the coming weeks.
