In your opinion what do you think the committee will value most when seeding 2A? Seemingly there will need to be a lot of discussions as to strength of schedule/conference champs/ By the looks of it, the first 6/7 seeds will all be very very good and seeding will be critical.

Lot depends on next week's Shady Side-Avonworth game. If Shady Side wins, they'll undoubtedly be No. 1 seed. If Avonworth wins, three-way for first with Steel Valley. Question is what do you do with Burgettstown? They're going to likely finish undefeated. But I don't see them getting one of top two seeds, just because of the strength of that conference. Would the WPIAL even push them down to 4?

Two questions. Why no love for USC in your rankings (and a 3-5 team in 6a) ? And why can't Chartiers Valley ever get its act together with Football ? They have a comparable tax base and population to Mt Lebanon and South Fayette and Bethel but can't ever be any good. Why is that ?

To Fawn, Can't put USC ahead of West A. Same record and West A beat them. Penn-Trafford been playing better lately. USC has had other close games. ... As for Char vValley I have no idea. ... As for why a 3-5 team at No. 5 in 6A?? Well who do you suggest we put in there?? Remember there are only nine teams in 6A. Right now, Mt. Lebanon has leg up on finishing as No. 5 team. So what else are we supposed to do?

Yes, they will finish undefeated. I would expect them to play Gateway in finals, but still some pretty good teams in 5A besides Gateway. 5A and 2A are the strongest classes.

To WestmorelandWill. Montour's 0-5 start was a little shocking, considering the past. But Sweet Lou's team has won five in a row and is scoring points now. Big game vs. Beaver this week because it will decide third place in conference. Finish fourth and you probably get TJ in first round. Not good.

Both. They are good. Very good. That was expected. And I don't think 3A is all that strong and that conference isn't exactly full of juggernauts, either. Beaver County football doesn't look like it's as strong as it used to be overall.

They're already in playoffs. Even if Montour loses final two games, they will be tied with either Knoch or Highlands. Montour beat both, so they will go.

Mike, I respect both Palko and Walker, but I think its great they are being called on the carpet for wanting to change the rules for their matchup this week.  If both teams want to play the JVs the whole night, that is fine.  Don't change the rules though

Johnny, I totally get West A and NA and what they were thinking. I don't blame them. Looking back, if they wanted to do this, they probably should've just agreed to play shortened quarters in second half. But as it stands now, they will play regular game. They have taken plenty of heat on social media. The thing has stoked many opinions. I understand NA and West A. I also understand the people who say this shouldn't happen. It doesn't look good. It's good now.

So, here we go. Its down to the last two weeks in 6A. SV has looked pretty good defensively, while P-R has been good but inconsistent on offense. Do you think SV has enough on the defensive side to hold P-R under 28? I don't think SV has enough on offense to get more than 2 scores so it may not matter. Then next week you have P-R at NA. I think SV may be a tougher test for the Rams than NA, but the Tigers, coming off their bye week should be well rested. That will be an triply interesting game with the conference championship up for grabs, NA coming off a bye week, and last years band/flag/banning incident.

I think Phil took the flag to Notre Dame, so there will be no incident and no one will be barred from field hockey games. ... As for Seneca, they can't score enough to beat Pine. I disagree about Pine's offense. They don't seem to have trouble scoring points.

2A has some depth at the top end of the classification. With Shady Side being a clear #1 how do you personally seed the next 4 or 5 teams as it stands today?

It all could change in a week. And you can't say as it stands today because Avonworth hasn't played Shady Side yet. That means a lot. Too hard to call until that game.

What year did HS football begin to get some much coverage- TV and newspapers?

Not sure about TV. but it has gotten plenty of coverage in newspapers - even before my time. I go back and look at microfilm of Post-Gazette in the 60s and stories were on front page of sports often. A few pages inside of Friday coverage. I think the Friday night coverage started to increase maybe in the 90s. But hey, they used to read all of the scores on Friday night TV.

JV games should be mandatory to play. Too many blowouts and kids not getting enough reps. If your not playing on Friday night you should be on Saturday morning

No they shouldn't. If you only have, say, 24 kids on your team, maybe you don't have enough to play JV. You can't MAKE teams play a game like JV. It's a numbers thing with JV games.

Wm and bv close game most of way . Wm was missing one of best defensive players at DE due to suspension. If they play them in the playoffs w/ BV quarterback out and having a healthy defense Wm can give them a game. Especially if they decide to pass a little bit. Bv dbs were getting blown up all night

I would hardly say Belle Vernon DBs were getting blown up all night. West Mifflin QB threw for 147 yards and threw only 14 times. I think he was intercepted twice. Hardly blowing up BV DBs. I was at the game. I thought Belle Vernon was in control the entire game.

They should win their conference and I think, yes, that should give them a top four seed. If Shady Side beats Avonworth, Charleroi is an easy top 4 seed. If Avonworth wins, I still think Charleroi should get top 4 seed, but it will be a mess then.

Why did the WPIAL change the 1A playoff structure? There are going to be teams that have two to three losses that will miss out. Why not break up the 1A Eastern Conference? Top four teams in that conference are most likely better than first second and third place teams in other conferences. There is no balance and little room for other schools to improve. It doesnt help the dwindling numbers if your team goes 8 and 2 or 7 and 3 and cant make the playoffs.

I have no problem with it. Top two teams in each conference qualify as well as two third-place teams. What's wrong with that? People complain when conferences aren't set up with geography in mind. Then some complain competitiveness should be taken into account. Everyone wants everything. The WPIAL cut the Class A field to eight because they said they felt a field of 16 lets too many bad teams in and the blowouts in Class A games in the first round were getting out of hand. I don't have a problem with it.
