Sorry FutureKnights I answered this above without posting question.

Can we now admit that Gateway isn't very good  or are they going to be highly ranked by the PG?
Mike White
11:27
How can you say they are not "very good." When they have had their best players, they have been pretty good. Still among the top 5-6 teams in 5A. After Peters Township, there isn't an overwhelming team in 5A.

Mike, Mt. Lebanon is awful this year. They’ve been mercy ruled so many times it’s making my head spin. It’s very depressing watching the program crash. Since you are a big Lebo fan, would you ever put your name in for the head coaching job? With your connections I’m sure you’d hire a great staff. I simply can’t watch Lebo anymore if this is the new normal.
Mike White
11:30
You are hilarious!!!! You should think about going on tour, you're that funny. But yes, myself and former NFL Super Bowl winner and Mt. Lebanon grad John Frank are trying to get the job and be co-coaches. Former Mt. Lebanon baseball star and major leaguers Josh Wilson has agreed to be our defensive coordinator. Basketball coach Joe David will be our equipment manager. He has agreed to get all of us football coaches suits, so we can look as good as him and his basketball staff.

Mike what do you think about Kiski beating Highlands that was a Good Win by The cavaliers on Friday
Mike White
11:31
Kiski Area could win state title. Sam Albert coach of the year. Sorry for the "Cavalier" attitude. Woooo hoooo!!!

My hope is Bishop? Canevin wins NOTHING.  VS Ch last week they had CH's best 4 players.  It looks good for them to win NADA no section title maybe not even a home game.  put all the cheats in their own league
Mike White
11:31
Ouch. Guess you don't like the Crusaders.

This PCC team is better than the 2004 version.
Mike White
11:33
No way you can make that statement. At least not yet. that 2004 team didn't lose a game, may I remind you. Let's wait and see what happens before comparing them to one of greatest teams in past few decades.

Oh, OK. What's the specialty, there?

In 4A how do you see the seeding shaking out?
Montour is young
Mike White
11:35
If Aliquippa wins out, they're definitely No. 1. Winner of TJ and McKeesport gets No. 2. Hard to say from there without knowing outcome of TJ vs. McKeesport.

USC's goose is basically cooked is it ? How do they get in the postseason ?
Mike White
11:35
By winning their final two games.

Imagine if woody high played in 3a where they belong.
Mike White
11:37
Yes, they'd be very good. But they're not bad now.
Playoffs
11:37
This playoff system is dumb. Good teams get screwed and bad teams may actually end up in the postseason. Particularly in 5A and 4A. Sorry but Chartiers Valley or Ambridge has no business being in the postseason and they very well might end up there
Mike White
11:40
That's only to make a field of 16 in 4A. It's 5A that is really bad. Because 5A and 6A have to plug into state playoffs a week earlier, they have to play WPIAL championships a week earlier than 4A through 1A. In 5A, only eight teams in playoffs. That stinks. There is going to be a third place team in a conference that doesn't make the playoffs. Here's to hoping for next cycle that this doesn't happen in 5A again. I don't know how many 5A teams will move up to 6A. I seen some numbers. There will probably be a few. But WPIAL really needs to look at 5A playoffs for next time.

Who wins USC vs Moon ?
Mike White
11:40
Should be good one. I think I'll take Moon. But I might change later in week. My mind needs to assess.

Mike, with schools now required to count all votech students, do you know if PIAA will adjust numbers on classifications?
Mike White
11:42
The PIAA adjusts classification cutoff numbers every two years. Here's basically the formula the PIAA uses: It's based on enrollments. Let's say there are 600 football teams in the state with six classifications. The top 100 in enrollment are in 6A, the next 100 in 5A and so forth. So, the cutoff numbers change every two years because school enrollments change every two years.

Since many hs players transfer to private schools with terrible facilities, do you think they are getting paid?  Also when will public schools start taking tuition students, which would end the private school monopoly.
Mike White
11:45
There are a few schools who take tuition students. Not sure how many. C'mon. Kids who transfer aren't getting paid. Thing is, though. Are they paying to attend this or that private school. Some private schools do have funds for financial aid. I'm not naming any private or Catholic schools, but I know some students are paying to go there. But they aren't breaking rules by doing that. It's the old "aid based on need idea." In other words, if they "need" you, it's funny how they find you some "aid."

Will the WPIAL, or can the WPIAL ever drop the hammer on schools like Sewickley Academy who are loading up their middle school basketball program with kids from all over western pa, funded by someone paying their tuition? Happened years ago with Roesing, Warfield, etc... seems like a blatant competitive imbalance, tipping the scale even more in the favor of private schools.
Mike White
11:53
OK, so you're bringing up Sewickley Academy. I don't know facts, although I'm hearing some things through sources. The Thomas Tull Foundation (he's partial owner of Steelers) did donate $20 million to Sewickley a few years ago and part of it was for what they said was " a new scholarship initiative to expand access." Giving students free tuition to a private school isn't against any WPIAL or PIAA rules, though. But it certainly will be interesting to see what happens with Sewickley basketball in next few years especially after the new $20 million sparking basketball facility that Tull funded is now open in Leetsdale. This could be really interesting to watch in next few years.

Any Chance that the PIAA might adopt a point system like the neighboring states (Ohio).  Could this be a solution rather than having teams drop down a class?
Mike White
11:54
Point system would have value, but no way PIAA develops it. Main reason is because of the districts in PIAA value their district championships so much. They don't have that in Ohio.

Who is early odds on favorite for PG football player of year?
Mike White
11:54
Honestly, I really don't think there is a favorite right now. I think playoffs will help determine that.

Avonworth has a really tough, physical team with some real nice skill players. Do you still like Belle Vernon as the favorite in 3A?
Mike White
11:55
Yes, but Avonworth is very good.

11:56
Who is playing better this season? Brody Evans or Luke kosko?
Mike White
11:57
Hard to say. I haven't seen TJ play. But I don't know if one is playing better than the other. Their stats are almost identical. Kosko is 49 of 86 for 818 yards and 7 TDs. Evans is 49 of 102 for 792 and 6 TDs. So I do'n't know. You tell me?
Matt
11:57
Mike, how good is Belle Vernon? It is just mercy rule after mercy rule for them.  Is this one of the best teams you have ever seen?
Mike White
11:58
Easy now, Matt. Yes, they're good but let's ease up on one of best teams ever. Good lord. You know, they do have a loss this year?
WPIAL Lifer
11:59
Gut feelings for playoffs: South Side is simply taking care of business and has the defensive physicality to shut down anyone in 1A. They're my pick. Washington runs the table in 2A but it's anyone's guess who they'll play in title game; Belle Vernon is rationing use of Q Martin but will ride him to repeat title; Quips take a tough 4A title; Peters finally does it in 5A; Pgh Central Catholic too talented to lose before state semifinals/finals.
