Got to see Joseph Roth swim at a club meet over the weekend. I explained to my son he plays hoops and swims in the same season (and excels at both)--he couldn't believe it. Off the top of your head can you think of any others to compete in 2 sports in same season and have similar success as Roth?

Yes, there have definitely been athletes who play two sports in same season and have success. Just not swimming and basketball. I've said it before. Joseph Roth is a freak. Unbelievable what he does. I don't think people realize how hard that is.

How does the WPIAL determine the Wild Cards in 5A. Does beating 2 6A teams help ? Makes no sense too me

No. Non-conference games don't matter. Only conference games count. The top two teams in each of the three conferences qualify and two of the three third-place teams qualify. How do they decide third-place teams? First, by conference record. That will most likely be a tie. Then go to Gardner Points. If still tied, they go to tiebreaker points, where you can get up to plus-10 for a win and up to minus-10 for a loss. Only conference games count.

The transfer thing is never going away. Ever. I hate it, but the PIAA does not care enough to listen to the public schools to make any real change. They actually make comments about "getting better." No question here. Just that lol
