Yes, I've talked about him before. I think the kid is one of the most amazing stories in WPIAL history. I'll see him tomorrow.

Wade scoring 65 shouldn't be celebrated.  The coach/dad let her in the game way too long and against a very poor team.  No sportsmanship.  Daddy ball at its absolutely worst.  Shame on the dad/coach for putting the personal accomplishment before the team.  Have you ever seen something like this before?
Mike White
11:36
I wasn't there so I can't comment. All I know is the 65 were scored against a team that hadn't won a game and was averaging 19 points a game. And about half of the 65 were scored in second half when team was up big. So be it. And yes, I've seen this before.

How good is Deer Lakes?
Mike White
11:37
Obvioulsy pretty darn good. Shoutout to Albie Fletcher for the job he's done. They won WPIAL last year, lost some top players, but Lancers have proven they weren't a one-year wonder. Ranked No. 1 in 3A now. Fear the Deer.

When will the basketball sections be released for the next two-year cycle?
Mike White
11:37
Not until after season probably.

Imani got a taste of their own medicine.  What a joke playing Montverde.  They better start recruiting better if they want to be on the national stage.
Mike White
11:37
No response from me.

11:37
Yes.  Mike.  Other than the big names such as Elijah G.  Any underrated kids or impressive players we don't know about.  Most of us know all the big names.  Just wonder who else has impressed you!
Mike White
11:38
Peter Kramer of Hampton. Evan Berger of Thomas Jefferson. Zion Moore of Belle Vernon is very underrated. He's good.

How do you assign responsibility with Mckeesport girls coach resigning-- Coach shouldn't have resigned and took too hard a stance? Board should have supported her and did something about parent?
Mike White
11:39
I really don't know whole story. So how can I assign responsibility to anyone without knowing story?

Watched Uniontown over the weekend….expected more than they showed….decent inside kids but showed no more than that….
Mike White
11:40
I saw them, too. Did they have all of their players? I still think they are good enough to get to semifinals and maybe championship in 4A. But I can't see them beating Lincoln Park.
Jewelz
11:41
So, what about 3A...who do you think has a shot at top 4 seeds in WPIAL?
Mike White
11:42
As of right now, I'd go with Deer Lakes No. 1, Seton LaSalle No. 2 and Mohawk No. 3.

Mike, I know you always show the section NH is in love and think they're the best...But how do you explain then that the fourth place team in section 2, 5A(Penn Hills) has beaten both Gateway and Moon this year???...Maybe you need to start showing that section its proper due
Mike White
11:42
Without a doubt the section with Penn Hills, Gateway, Franklin, Kiski etc. is just as good as one with Moon, South Fayette, Mars. They're both very good.

When do the new conferences come out for football
Mike White
11:43
Not until next month possibly.
TJ Stan
11:43
I see these posts on TJ.... After watching SF beat them in all aspects of the game I am not sure.  Maybe TJ had a bad night.  Not sure thoughts on TJ or is SF better than we know.
Mike White
11:44
I know. Teams can have a bad night. I saw TJ early in year against Montour and thought they were OK, but not tremendous. But they looked a lot better against Central. Maybe they're peaking.

Who is the best all time freshman Wpial and City hooper that you have seen
Mike White
11:47
Wow. That's hard to say and I'd have to think about it. Tom Pipkins at Valley comes to mind right away, though. Was WPIAL leading scorer for a long time. Best high school player I ever saw in a high school game -- not an all-star game -- was LeBron against New Castle in 2002-03 season. Best high school player in Pennsylvania I ever saw in person in a high school game was Billy Owens of Carlisle in mid 1980s. Was awesome.

RMU has over 25 offers out for basketball, but none of them are WPIAL guys. Guillory is in their back yard, yet they've shown no interest that I know of. What gives? I'm not saying only recruit WPIAL guys, but when you're a bottom of the half Horizon League team, it couldn't hurt to be a little more hospitable to the locals, right?
Mike White
11:47
Don't disagree. Remember, WPIAL doesn't have a lot of D-1 players, but I agree that Robert Morris doesn't seem to recruit many players here.

Mike White
11:48
I'll take South Fayette.

You've talked about some of the other sections, but who are your top four seeds in 3A? And who gets the byes?
Mike White
11:48
Gave my idea on 3A seedings earlier.
Sportsfan23
11:48
Mike, top 5 wpial athletes in any sports you’ve seen play in the last 5 years.
Mike White
11:50
Geez, oh man. You people ask questions that take some time to think about. I can't answer this right off the top of my head. I'd have to think.
Tony
11:50
You mentioned a NH freshman making the play above.  I have been to several NH games and they play a couple freshman heavy minutes.  Are those kids reclasses or "old" for their grade?  While they aren't superstars on the court they hold their own and don't look like freshman.
Mike White
11:51
No, they're not "old" freshman. You're talking about Nathan Schanbacher, Jackson Long and Kieshaun Diemus. Schanbacher starts, Long plays a lot and Diemus some. We'll see what happens with them in the future, but they do have lots of potential. But potential doesn't win you anything.

I have 4 sons, my oldest will be in high school next year. I am able to step back and see if they are good at a sport or not. My boys complain to me about playing time, I tell them to practice more and get better to force the coach to notice improvement. How do you, as a coach, handle parents that complain about playing time for their kid?
Mike White
11:55
I can just tell you what I do as a 9th grade coach. Before the season, I have a parent meeting and also give players set of team rules. Rule is I will not discuss playing time with a parent. I learned that from older coaches years ago. That doesn't mean a parent won't complain about playing time. But the kid can come ask about playing time. Not the parent. Playing time is always an issue, no matter the year. Some years are easier than others. Problems can arise when a parent unhappy about playing time makes up some other kind of reasons to go after the coach. And it doesn't seem to be getting any better. PIAA has had a "sportsmanship" rule read before every game for years. Many times, that goes out the window after the first call fans don't like.

Totally agree on Wade.  I was at the double header at steel valley the other night. The girls game was first followed by steel valley / Seton boys. Wade played the entire game for the girls despite them having a huge lead. On the flip side, a player for Seton hit 3 threes in a row, their head coach called Time out, and he retired the starters for the rest of the night. Thought that was a classy move.
Mike White
11:55
If you say that's what happened.
Salaries
11:55
Off subject I just read the WPIAL Executive Directors Salary was 120k and the Chief Operating officers was 90k on top of 100k state pensions is that true?
