Yes, I had a note on this last week. Higher-seeded teams will get a home game in first round, provided their gym is suitable to host a playoff game. If a team gets a bye and they are higher-seeded team, they will get a home game in second round.

if the wpial does decide to combine 5a/6a in football, would this give aliquippa a better chance in the legal fight? you could have a school with boys enrollment of 160 playing one with 400.
Mike White
11:29
Those are hypothetical situations. I doubt whether the 5A-6A thing would have any bearing on court case.
Caitlin Clark
11:29
I saw from your Twitter account that you got to see Caitlin Clark live. After watching her play in person, do you have a different opinion as to whether the 6A champ could beat them?
Mike White
11:35
She is tremendous. I enoy watching her play as much as any man -- college or high school. Maybe if she scores 60, she could keep Iowa in game. But I'll still go with boys 6A champ. No question. You don't realize the difference in strength and speed. Two of Iowa's main players in game I saw Saturday are 5-7 and 5-9.

Good morning Mike. I have resisted asking this to you for quite awhile, but what the heck is the deal with “Coach Kudd” and the Imani program. Certainly they are talented, but lack any sort of respect. The entire team and staff jumped in the air as one of their players went up for a dunk - AFTER THE FINAL BUZZER sounded in their last game. I guess they pride themselves on recruiting prowess to college but it doesn’t seem like they even have any of the top players in the area on their team?
Mike White
11:36
I don't know. I haven't seen them play so I really can't comment.
USC girls
11:36
USC Girls are like a good horse that wins a Triple Crown race. Kind of plodding along the first part and middle of the race then kick it into gear down the stretch. Would you say they're pretty dangerous ?
Mike White
11:37
They are in playoffs. Losing Rylee Kalocay, though, was huge. She was Fab 5 last year. Good for them to get in playoffs, but there won't be a WPIAL title in works.
Transfer Rule
11:37
I know the PIAA transfer rule is that if you leave after your sophomore year, you are not eligible for the playoffs the following year. If a player would complete a basketball season sophomore year, then transfers to a new school in the 4th semester, would they be eligible for playoffs their junior year?  Or would they not be because they completed their sophomore season?
Mike White
11:38
The rule is not "after your sophomore year." The rule is after you start a sport as a sophomore. So if you played basketball as a sophomore, and transferred in maybe April, you would still be ineligible for playoffs as a junior at your next school. The key is you played a season as a sophomore.

How are ties is sections decided. Head to Head if two teams? Thanks

Look above. I explained it.

1976 Fifth Avenue Basketball Undefeated State Champs with Sam Clancy and Junebug Howard .....Greatest HS Basketball Team Ever ?
Mike White
11:40
1976 Fifth Ave. team is one of the best in last 50-60 years. But you need corrected. Yes, that team had Sam Clancy. But Junebug did not play for Fifth. He played in the early 1980s for Westinghouse.
Disappointment
11:40
Chartiers Valley boys have been a huge disappointment this year. Maybe the biggest in the WPIAL. Agreed ?
Mike White
11:40
No.

11:41
In the PIAA competitive balance rule, is there opportunity for a team to drop down if there is no success points/transfers in a 2 year period? Or is it basically once you are bumped up, you can't go down.
Mike White
11:41
No, you can drop back down. There are rules that I won't explain right now. But you can drop back down.

Do you think Joe Roth has a chance for fab 5?
Mike White
11:42
Sure, he would be a candidate. But there are a number of candidates. Look for a big story on Joseph in the next few days in Post-Gazette. Sorry for shameless self promotion.

How good is the younger Carney at Butler? Big time prospect like his brother?
Mike White
11:44
Can really shoot it, like his brother. Has deep range and is athletic. He's only a sophomore. So we'll see how he develops next year or so. Brother, Devin, is now at University of Denver. Has only played in five games.

With A/AA hoops in boys/girls having some strong sections and other really bad ones with only 2 good teams, can you see any teams with co-champs in a bad section getting a 8/9 seed?
Mike White
11:45
Yes a section champ in a bad section could get a seed in top 8. It has happened before.

Do Hampton and Uniontown have a chance against Lincoln Park in 4A?
Mike White
11:46
Of course they would have a chance. But do I think Lincoln Park will lose to a WPIAL team? No.
Steelers fan
11:47
Who do you think will win 5a player of the year?
Mike White
11:47
Leader in clubhouse I would say right now is definitely Elijah Guillory of Moon.

Speaking of Parham, I just looked him up.  His ranking hasn't gone up.  In fact, it went down.  Do you still follow him?  How is he doing at his new school?  Competition wasn't good enough at home but was it too much on the prep level?
Mike White
11:48
He's doing well at Western Reserve.
baller
11:48
would love your take on Pine seems to have a lot of talent with little results
Mike White
11:49
I've only seen them on film. Sorry, but I have to disagree with your "lot of talent." Not saying they don't have some talent, but a lot?
Baseball thoughts
11:49
I know you are deep into basketball and winter sports, and football goes year round, any early thoughts on the baseball season?
Mike White
11:50
Well this isn't high school, but a kid from WPIAL is now rated as the No. 1 pick in draft. Mars' J.J. Wetherholt at WVU.
Coach O

After seeing her in person, in your opinion how does Caitlin Clark compare to other top female players like Swin Cash, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, etc? She just seems like she is always in motion, unbelievable range, dishes off some beautiful apples.
Mike White
11:50
Best women's player on college level -- ever!!! She's like Steph Curry.

What’s this Bash with the Bronx event this weekend at NA? Are there good teams and players to see?
Mike White
11:53
Some very good games. You've got Imani vs. Lincoln Park. Allderdice vs. Hampton. Aliquippa vs. Upper St. Clair. And Western Reserve vs. Our Savior Luthern (N.Y.). Our Savior always has few big-time players. Royce Parham plays for Western Reserve. Good event.

It seems like Ohio has a bunch of prep schools that play national schedules.  Why doesn't SWPA have any?  Lincoln Park and Imani are the closest things to it but they still play in the PIAA/WPIAL.  Why don't they just choose one or the other?
