Fab 5 really hard this year after the first few guys. What you said is a good 5, but there are others. What's nice is we don't pick it until near the end of the playoffs. Postseason matters.

Has the WPIAL finally gotten rid of the most ridicuoluous ways to determine state qualifiers, "follow the leader".  This seems to be discussed every year but nothing every changes.  Would love to see teams face off for 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th places.

Who you got in tonight’s big 6A boys Seneca Valley at North Allegheny matchup. Winner is in playoffs & loser is probably out.

Big game. If Seneca wins, NA is out, no matter what happens Friday. If NA wins, Seneca still has a chance. But would have to beat New Castle Friday and have NA lost to Central. I think I'll take NA.

I seem to be seeing more and more weekend "1 Day Showcase" events around the area.  The admission to these always is almost double the amount of a normal game ticket (between $10-$15).  Who is getting the profits off these?  Schools or one guy?

Yes, there are a number of one-day events now. Usually, it's someone putting on the event. They might pay a rental fee and for workers, but they might make a nice buck off these things if the games are good. And you're right. It's not like school games where ticket might be $5. Sorry to use this term, but it is what it is.

Of course there are potential state champs. And yes, Class 5A is good. South Fayette is really good. 6A USC is good, too.

Do you think Pitt’s resurgence in basketball & probable selection to the NCAA tournament will entice some of the local basketball talent in the WPIAL to stay home & choose Pitt?

Hard to say. They already got Lincoln Park's Brandin Cummings, although he wasn't heavily recruited by big-time schools. Three best prospects are North Hills 6-9 junior Royce Parham, Lincoln Park sophomore guard Meleek Thomas and Imani Christian 6-10 sophomore Alier Maluk. Pitt has offered all of them. They're all highly rated. I think what Pitt is doing has to open their eyes some. But no way I would expect Pitt to get all three. Although I think all three might be somewhat open. I know Sean Miller is coming to South Fayette to see Royce play. Xaver is a school he is considering. He visited Marquette this weekend.

OK so USC and Lebo each beat each other and have the same conference record. Is overall record the tiebreaker or do they use Gardner points here as well ?

There is no such thing as Gardner Points in basketball. Basketball committee will decide seedings. Let's wait to see how things play out. USC still has to play a pretty good Baldwin team. But if USC and Lebo tie for first, who gets higher seed? That's a tough one.

Yes top four in each section make the playoffs. Ties for a playoff spot will be broken by head-to-head. If three teams tie and head to head doesn't break tie, all three teams go.

Yep, just got it yesterday. Both boys and girls City championships are Feb. 19 at The Pete. Semifinals are next week. But dates and sites haven't been set yet.

Well, we have Mohawk ranked No. 1. They're good but I think 3A is pretty balanced. I don't think there is an overwhelming favorite. Gotta look at Steel Valley, OLSH, Washington, Deer Lakes, Shady Side. Pretty open.

I agree. Don't sleep on them. They're experienced from last year and have played Union tough. Watch for them in playoffs.

Not sure. Just know that semifinals are next week. Heck, there will be WPIAL teams that don't play for 10 days after their final regular-season game.
