Why wouldn't he be? If you're talking about age, I don't know his age. As long as you don't turn 19 before July 1 of senior year, you are eligible.

Of Mars, Penn Hills and Moon, who has the best guards and do you think guard play will determine who wins the 5A title?

That's a tough one. Recchia, Caruso, Fusco at Mars are good and experienced. But so are the Ryans, Smith and even Johnson at Moon. But Moon doesn't have any size. Penn Hills guards are good also. Penn Hills has some punch inside, though, with the bearded one - Kropp. I can't pick the best guards among that bunch.

Hey mike you have spoke of the coaches with 400 -500 plus career wins. All those wins are great but a lot of these coaches have problems winning the meaningful games. My question is why do these school districts not consider change. In other words. “What have you done for me lately “

Oh OK. Guys have been doing the job for 30 plus years, have won plenty and have had positive impacts on many kids' lives, let's just get rid of them. Who needs them? Give me a break. Every active coach with more than 500 wins has at least one WPIAL title. Some more. Except Don Williams of Carmichaels. But you ever think maybe they don't have the "talent" to win everything. Lot of good coaches out there who don't win championships.

Last week i mentioned a scrawny point guard from Lebo that is quite kid. Pine Richland has a scrawny guard off the bench that rains 3's like there is no tomorrow.  Can't let him shoot.   Do you have 3 to round out an All Scrawny Team?

No. But I'll tell you who's not scrawny is Jayla Bray of McKeesport girls. She's the Charles Barkley of WPIAL girls. Saw her last night 16 points and 17 rebounds. Liked her game.

Char Valley-Woodland Hills is a tossup. Montour could be a little dangerous against Penn Hills. And Steve Scorpion took Franklin Regional to the final last year. Moon better be careful.

I bet Switzerland has a shorter line to the men's rest room than West A's gym which offers all of three "options" for a packed house. I guess WPIAL doesn't take that factor into consideration when choosing neutral sites!

Hey Mike I'm still hoping for Midland - Neumann-Goretti 3A final. I know you are not a fan of Midland but if you grew up there and knew the back story you might change your mind. Thanks for the good articles I enjoy hearing about the kids who play WPIAL sports. One of the Best WPIAL BB playoff games was Midland Mt. Lebanon when Dick Black was coaching and their guy was Steve Rennakamp. Thought he would beat Midland but Simmie stopped him in the 4th quarter

I have no idea who your are talking about. Midland???? They closed in 1980s. Oh, you mean Lincoln Park. Please don't call them Midland. That's an insult to Midland. They simply play in old Midland gym. And Dick Black was a great coach and is still a great guy. Here's what I love. Dick Black still keeps the scorebook for Mt. Lebanon 9th grade games. Seriously. That's beautiful. His son is the 9th grade coach.

Hard to say. You would have to think Chuck Crummie will be retiring one of these years at Central. Not saying he will or he should. But he thought about it after last year. Who knows.

What is your take on the Seneca Valley boys and the job that Kevin Trost has done in his first season there?  They have a talented 8th grade group that finished the season unbeaten and recently won a 9th grade tourney at Pine Richland.  Future looks bright for the Raiders.  Your pick for their game vs. Fox Chapel tonight?

The Trost-er man? He's excellent coach. Remember he took Bishop Canevin to state semifinals two years ago. He did a very good job at Seneca in first year. Not surprised. I've known Kevin since days of playing summer league at North Park and his glory days at North Allegheny when he loved all of his coaches. Said before, they will give Fox Chapel a handful. I think it will be a close game. And I have heard about these Seneca 8th graders. But still, they're 8th graders.

Agree. Those two guys really "try" to have good teams in City League. Not easy where they both coach. So much more involved than X's and O's. I really wonder about future of City League basketball. Shoutout to both Walt and Carey.

Mike, I know we talk about locations for games a lot on here, as a former coach I just want to say I do not think it matters. Players have to play, whether the game is somewhere in the middle or closer to one school. Silly to dwell on it.
