Why do you get so angry when someone asks if a team has a chance to win?  It is a figure of speech.  In essence they are asking you what your opinion is on their chances.

Don't you think the ADs complaining about private schools playing with public schools should just get over it ? It has worked fine all these years. The only issue is when the occasional private school puts together a good year. I think its much ado about nothing

The AD committee wanting to separate the private schools from public is headed by the Lebo AD. Who happens to share a conference with the biggest private school in the area. I'm sure its just a coincidence though right ?

You're wrong. The committee will be set up by John Grogan to listen to the other ADs. And there will be private-Catholic schools ADs on the committee.

I have no idea. All we know is Amy Scheuneman (WPIAL director) said league has reached out to possibility of playing some semis at RMU or Duquesne. She said it's possible. Depends on availability and of course, cost. No one ever said it was a likelihood.

Likely not until after states. WPIAL has to see if any teams get bumped up in class by PIAA competitive balance rule.

I can tell you Allderdice boys play Tuesday March 1 against winner of District 10 championship. Erie or McDowell. If Allderdice would win that game, they would play the District 6 champ. But if Allderdice beats Erie or McDowell, they will be in the regular PIAA tournament of 32, regardless of what they do against District 6 champ.

Mentioning above Ed Olkowski with 8 titles, so he was the coach of those great Midland teams of 60s and 70s with Norm Van Lier and the like? Never really hear his name mentioned as much as other legendary coaches but that record speaks for itself.

Ed was a tremendous coach, but he was not the coach of the famous 1965 Midland team with Simmie Hill and Norm VanLier. That was Hank Kuzma. Ed came after Hank.

For football if a kid transfers for the second semester of a school year is he eligible for playoffs the upcoming season

Any athlete who transfers after his sophomore sports season, he is automatically ineligible for the playoffs the next season in that sport. Unless the transfer is legit or he gets a waiver from WPIAL or PIAA.

Mike, I believe you said the WPIAL is looking into keeping the home court advantage through the semi-finals? I’m not a fan of that, I prefer the neutral sites. I remember growing up in beaver county and pops taking me to games at Ambridge, RMU, CCBC Dome, etc… And also the fans that would stick around to watch another game and root for the underdogs. Those were some good environments.

I never said that. I said home court through the quarterfinals. That has been said many times in many publications. If I said semifinals once, I misspoke. Semifinals are all at neutral sites.

How big is homecourt for these first two rounds help the teams. I mean some of these teams come into a packed house and its loud . If your not used to that does it hurt teams especially in high school hoops

Of course there is an advantage to home court. But doesn't guarantee a win. Shaler boys won at South Fayette last night in an interesting 5A game.

Shaler has a good amount back next year, but not much size after losing the big guy - Logan Bernesser.

GCC got pinched for recruiting for football.  Did the coach get fired by the school because he recruited or because he was caught doing it?  That school has poached a ton of talent from Jeanette the past few years.  Shameless.

According to WPIAL, the recruiting allegations came out in a hearing with a transfer. WPIAL then asked GCC to investigate. GCC then took action and fired the coach. WPIAL then said coach can't coach anywhere for a year. That's the series of events.

any idea why the new castle vs canevin game did not happen last week? was looking forward to that. and do you think canevin played the toughest non conference schedule in the wpial????

New Castle called game off. Canevin's schedule was very good. Best for a small school. But many schools in larger classes had really good non-section schedules as well.
