hey mike , can the dyanmos make a run in the playoffs
Mike White
11:21
If you're talking Springdale Dynamos, no. If they could get past Sto-Rox in first round, they faced OLSH. Enough said. Run over.

Thoughts on Freeports upset of Uniontown on their court. Freeport won 5 games last year and 3 the year before. I imagine the new coach did quite the job for our school.
Mike White
11:22
Nice win for Freeport. Continues Uniontown's problems of coming up short in playoffs. Can't say I'm real surprised.

Morning Mike, great first round games so far. I read the story yesterday but was wondering if you’ve heard anything new about semi-finals at RMU and Duq. It seems like DUQ is out for the 4a and 1a boys but could RMU Be used for the 4a boys? I don’t see the wpial using a space like that for a 1A boys game solely because of fan bases? Thoughts?
Mike White
11:25
Duquesne doesn't have games at The Coop Monday or Tuesday. Possibly put games there that night. That's 5A and 6A boys nights. Robert Morris doesn't have anything Monday night. It's about availability - but also about cost, ya know?

I know you joke when people say does x team have a chance against y team but really does anyone else have a chance to win 5a girls?  Char Valley seems to be on a run since Coach McConnell took over that will place his teams with the girls in the WPIAL hall of fame someday.
Mike White
11:27
Because it's stupid when people say "does so-and-so have a chance against so-and-so?" Of course they do. Yes, Char Valley is probably a heavy favorite. But can I remind you that CV beat Moon by only 45-41 and South Fayette 55-51. It would be shocking if CV didn't win it, but those two games prove teams can play with CV on a good night. But CV seems to be on a roll now.

Other than OLSH, who's the next best in 2A boys?
Mike White
11:28
Really hard to say. I don't have a good answer.

Mike, how crazy is it that 4 of the top 5 seeds in 1a  went to “private schools”. Total bias. How is Leechburg 17-3 behind Eden(13-7) and GEIBEL (17-5) Eden has played some tough teams but geibel come on. They lost to Neighborhood and play in a bad section. Eden will blow them out. Leechburg and Eden is a much more deserving 4-5 game
Mike White
11:32
And how crazy it is that you think there is bias on WPIAL basketball committee toward "private schools." Are you serious? C'mon, man. I would've seeded them exactly the same way. For your information, Geibel beat Leechburg in regular season. And Eden lost to a Nazareth Prep that was 5-18. Enough said.

In you're opinion should the OLSH win streak come with an asterisk due to the fact that OLSH has refused to play any real teams? It is my understanding that the OLSH coach Mike Rodriguez used to work for the FBI, maybe there should be an investigation into OLSH because their frauds
Mike White
11:34
Man, you are sooooo funny. We go through this every week. No, OLSH has not played a tremendous schedule this year. But as I said in previous weeks, they had a few games against decent teams canceled for various reasons. And they did go through WPIAL and PIAA playoffs the past two years without a loss. Why should there be an asterisk? It's not like they played CYO teams.

Whats the greatest WPIAL boys basketball dynasty of all time?

Answered this earlier. Farrell.

Whats the deepest boys hoops team in the WPIAL
Mike White
11:36
Lord, I don't know. Contrary to what you might think, I don't know the bench of every dang team in the WPIAL. There are over 130 of them.

Does the wpial schedule all non conference games in football or does the school get to schedule a few ?
Mike White
11:36
Schools can schedule any opponent they wish in Week 0. WPIAL schedules all games after that, including non-conference.

It may be b-ball playoff time, but I'll just throw this out now: Here's hoping WPIAL not only listens, but ACTS, on the issue of non-boundary school advantage. Here's one solution that can actually be put in place before fall: a dedicated football conference for non-boundaries in 3A and below (N. Cath, Serra, Shady Side, Seton LaSalle, OLSH, Canevin, Greensburg CC, & Imani). Only exception would be Summit Acad. Pgh Central Cath. stays in 6A. This is entirely possible and there's plenty of time to re-map conferences and create schedules. Non-boundaries can then enter WPIAL playoffs in respective classes if they finish high enough in conference play.
Mike White
11:38
Wouldn't be the worst idea but this idea needs to be examined by many parties. Any ideas would have to be put to the WPIAL board of directors. These things take time. This all came out from ADs when conferences were already made in football. There's no way things could be done before this fall. Besides, complaints are not just in football but all sports.

Mike, can you confirm Brian Miller at No. Catholic is leaving and heading to Plum to be the new AD?
Mike White
11:38
Yes, confirmed.

What do you know about wrestling coach resigning at NA? HEard there was an incident at a match and him and Big Bobby Bozzuto got into it?
Mike White
11:42
I heard that Bob Bozzuto was upset and came flying off the turnbuckle and hit the wrestling coach, and used a foreign object on him. George "The Animal" Steele then came in the ring as tag team partner and put NA football coach Art Walker in a sleeper hold before Professor Tanaka and Lou Albano came into the ring and restored order. Then the NA wrestling coach resigned, announcing his decision on Ringside Rosey's Twitter page and instagram account.

In the case of the undefeated teams, do you think its better to have lost one heading into the playoffs?
Mike White
11:44
No, I don't buy that. If you get into the playoffs, I don't think undefeated teams are saying, "Geez, I feel all the pressure because we're undefeated." If you have a team that's undefeated or one that's just very good and has a chance to win it, there is pressure. There is pressure because you know it's one loss and it's done. For example, I doubt North Hills feels any more pressure than one-loss Fox Chapel, or Central Catholic or other top teams.

How good is the Carmichael kid from Avonworth? I hear he is one of the better freshman in WPIAL. Dad was a good player in his day. Did you get to see him this year or what have you heard?
Mike White
11:46
You're talking Rowan Carmichael. Saw him play last year for 9th grade team and also this year. Very advanced skill wise for 9th grader. Just knows how to play and can do a number of things. A little small. Hope he grows some more. Way too early to think about a college level for him. Much will depend on how he goes. And his father, LaRoche coach Hermie, is one of the good guys in local basketball.

The North Hills boys team has had a great season. With that said, being unbeaten really ramps up the pressure on them. They also haven't had a ton of really close games, I see only 3 wins that were by less than 10 points. In a close game, every possession and decision are magnified. They're not deep either. Wondering how that team will respond when the heat is really on.
Mike White
11:47
Well they won their final regular season game by one. Mars game was close until the end. No they haven't had a ton of close games, but they've been tested. Other games were close at halftime or through three quarters. I don't think that's an issue.

Hi Mike, Any idea who the crossover games will be between 5A and 6A? Related to that, do you know if any teams have opted out of those crossover, like NA did last cycle and just played teams from Ohio. Thanks.
Mike White
11:47
No idea. Schedules come out tomorrow or Thursday.
