Well, West Allegheny is his home school. Wife still lives there. What's wrong with maybe wanting to come back home and work where you spent a great deal of your life? But there was no way that was going to happen, not with current superintendent at West A.

Who has realistic shot at a state title?
Mike White
11:38
Lincoln Park, Imani, Aliquippa in boys.
Mike
11:38
Quality has decreased??  Bball is better than it ever has been.
Mike White
11:41
I never said it has decreased. That was what another person wrote. But it's not anywhere near what it was in 50s, 60s, 70s, as far as Division I talent. Not even comparable. That's a fact. We had few Power 5 players leave this past year. But we still have Brandin Cummings of Lincoln Park going to Pitt. Meleek Thomas one of top 10 juniors in country. What's wrong with that? Some other good players. What if all those players stayed an we had 4-5 Power 5 guys in WPIAL right now? That would be pretty good.

Good Morning Mike - how many WPIAL Teams do you foresee making the state finals and which do you see winning?
Mike White
11:41
3 for boys and 3 for girls. I'm not going to predict champions.
Coach Aj

You heading down to Allderdice for the game Wednesday? Disappointing that these teams have to play in a sub-regional. Both could easily medal at states.
Mike White
11:42
No, I am not. But easy when you say they could "easily" medal at states. That means you have to make the state championship game. That isn't happening with Allderdice.

Do you think Aliquippa will play 6a ball ever? If so, how will they match up against competition like NA or Central?
Mike White
11:43
If they keep winning WPIALs and going to state finals, and have three recruits, then they will be 6A someday. No, I don't think Aliquippa could beat NA or Central on a regular basis.

This years potential fab 5 of cummings, guillory, roth, thomas, and kramer might be one of the better ones of the last 10 years and I dont think you could pick anyone else. Lots of size and scoring but what year do you think had the best 5, other than the blair and pryor group?
Mike White
11:49
You're forgetting a player. And maybe there might be one or two others to at least consider. One of the best in the last 10 years? I don't know about that. Let's look back at just two years ago. Adou Thiero was on it. I just saw he is projected as a first-round draft pick in NBA for 2025. Royce Parham is a top 100 player headed to Marquette. Rodney Gallagher would've been Division I player at some level if he didn't play football. Jake DiMichele walked on at Duquesne and is now starting. Eli Yofan is a walk-on at Youngstown State. Few years ago, Fab 5 had Ethan Morton and Puff Johnson. Sorry, but I wouldn't say this is the best in a while. Good, but not the best.

FR vs Moon.  Who do you like?
Mike White
11:49
Tossup but I'll take Moon.

The consolation tournament is great. WPIAL finally caught of up with rest of PIAA. In 4A boys, you have suddenly slumping No. 3 seed Montour battling for PIAA tournament survival in a tough matchup with No. 8 Knoch. Under the old way, Montour would've needed South Allegheny or Hampton to win the WPIAL tournament. In 5A, if Gateway beats Kiski Area, it places seventh with a road game at District 3 champion Hershey or Mechanicsburg. Gateway and Hershey had a one-point game in last year's first round.
Mike White
11:49
I agree. I like it.

Kids are specializing in 1 sport at such a young age. I believe the longer you play multiple sports, the better "athlete" you will become. I know this will only get worse with time. But can you see a time in the near future where we see less and maybe hardly any multi-sport athletes in high school?
Mike White
11:50
Yes,  kids are specializing. Been going on for a while now. But there will always be multi-sport athletes. Heck, who would've thought there's be a Joseph Roth even 5 years ago?

Will the WPIAL championships be on tv or streamed for free this year?
Mike White
11:51
Livestreamed through NFHS network. You have to have a subscription. KDKA radio will broadcast all games.
Mikey
11:51
GCC or Northgate boys tonight!?
Mike White
11:51
GCC in a close one.
Todd

It seems like 3A boys basketball is really down this year.  With Mohawk getting blown out by Burrell last night as the number 2 seed, and Deer Lakes struggling throughout the playoffs as the number 1 seed.  Would you agree?
Mike White
11:52
Not bad teams, but just not a really good team. I touched on this above.

Lincoln Park is the prohibitive favorite in the 4A Final, but after watching the semis how does Hampton match up?
Mike White
11:52
Hampton will have a tough time. Kramer must be super, Mignogna must have a gigantic game and they must defend and take care of the ball.
Baldwin21
11:52
Quite the game on Tuesday at Baldwin, think they can take down Lebo tonight?
Mike White
11:53
Of course they can. Of course they have a shot. But I'll take Lebo in a close one.
Mike Mo

Great great game at peters last night Moon and TJ, do u believe in the basketball people who say a coach will win or lose you a game decided by 5 points or less???
Mike White
11:54
No. Sometimes yes, but not all the time. C'mon, man. Coaches can't go out and make the plays.
Bearcat

given the success that Imani has had in boys basketball and the national schedule that they have played this year; do you see them being able to run the table in Class A?  Seems difficult for them not to, right?
Mike White
11:55
I can't see them losing to Neighborhood Academy. And I think Imani has a good chance at winning 1A in the state. But there will be some decent teams out there outside the WPIAL. Imani has good guards, but not the size they had last year to go along with it.

My point is it’s good to have playback games to see who the 7th and last team is to make states rather than “follow the leader” method. But to play off two semifinal losers to see who’s the 3 or 4 seed? That kind of seems like a waste of time/resources/energy.
Mike White
11:56
I somewhat agree with you. Only thing is that the No. 3 seed might have a home game in first round of state and No. 4 might be on road. So it does matter. But good Lord, has to be tough to play a play-in game two days after you lose an emotional semifinal game.

Have you looked at the WPIAL wrestling brackets? Let's just say they are a joke. South Hills schools got ridiculous seeds they didn't deserve. 145 pounds was the worse. But there are several others that are embarrassingly bad.
Mike White
11:58
I also can't believe George "The Animal" Steel is not seeded No. 1. And where is "Jumpin" Johnny DeFazio. Shouldn't he be top seeded? I look for Professor Tanaka to have a great tournament. Will Bill Cardille be the announcer on the livestream?
I hear it
11:58
I hear two 7'7" kids just joined the Basketball team at Central. I'm sure its just a coincidence though smirk
Mike White
11:58
Obviously, you're joking. But here's a team to watch in the next few years with getting kids in - Sewickley Academy. Just watch.

Uniontown almost got Lincoln Park Saturday.   Do you think Hampton can get the job done Thursday?
