Is this Tim McConnell's last game as a head coach at Chartiers Valley.  Hearing he could be moving over to a different school's boys job next year.
Mike White
11:24
Not sure and neither is he.
Ed
11:24
Its Fab 5 season. Mike Wells has been the ultimate leader for New Castle and has over 1,900 career points. Has his name been thrown around for a spot in this year's selections?
Mike White
11:25
No doubt he is a Fab 5 candidate. Has had a great career and season. Main reason NC is this far.

Do you know when all section teams, Fab 5, and Coach of the Year will be release by you guys at the PG.  I seem to remember its is the weekend after the season ends (1st weekend of April).
Mike White
11:25
Week or two after the season ends.

Is Markus Frank getting many D-1 looks? I know his height for his position isnt ideal, but he's just a great, tough ballplayer.
Mike White
11:27
Markus is an excellent high school player. Terrific. But his game really isn't suited for D-1 level. Scores all his points on either drive or putbacks - and I don't blame him. Few can stop him from getting to the rim. But for a 6-5 kid that won't happen at D-1 level. He would need to develop more skills, like shooting, to make it at D-1 level. But on high school level, I haven't seen many get to the hoop like him. Will be interesting to see what he does in state final.

For basketball what schools are likely to be forced up a class?  And are any voluntarily bumping up?
Mike White
11:29
I've already reported this a few times. New Castle will go from 5A to 6A. OLSH will go from 2A to 3A. Bishop Canevin would be bumped up from 1A to 2A but their enrollment already has them in 2A next year. So, BC will stay in 2A. Char Valley girls will go from 5A to 6A. Neshannock has enough "success" points to go from 2A to 3A in girls, but I don't know if they had a transfer the past two years. That is the other factor in bump ups.

Do you know know if any boys teams will play up in 6A next year?
Mike White
11:30
Yes, up above I said New Castle will be bumped up from 5A to 6A. Upper St. Clair would be 5A in enrollment, but they are staying in 6A by their own choice.

Which boys basketball class is stronger in you’re opinion 1a or 2a?
Mike White
11:31
Good question. I guess I'll go 2A but not by much.

Some of those Catholic schools might have kids from 24 different religions too…..
Mike White
11:32
No comment.

Not sure if you knew this Mike, but Cameron Lindsay of Aliquippa actually went to Quaker Valley until 8th grade!  Plus, they lost a starter in Ian Herring to Kiski Prep this year.  Wow, QV would be even stronger with them too!
Mike White
11:32
I did not know about Lindsey at QV. And yes, Herring would've been a top player this year. I guess he thought grass was greener at Kiski. He missed out on a lot at Quaker Valley.

Who’s your wpial favorites
Mike White
11:33
WPIAL is over.

11:33
Any other wpial teams being forced up classes for basketball?
Mike White
11:33
No.
QuakerGod
11:33
Any word if New Castle or OLSH are going to appeal their forced move ups to 6A and 3A respectively?
Mike White
11:33
No. If they did, I don't know on what basis.

Are you going up to Hershey to watch all the games and who do you think is the highest rated player
Mike White
11:34
Yes, I am going. Well, if you go strictly by ratings it's
11:35
Sorry. If you go strictly by ratings, it's Imhotep's Justin Edwards, 6-7 kid is five-star recruit ranked by Rivals as the No. 8 player in junior class.

I feel the fab5 has almost 4 locks with one spot available who are some top candidates?  Adou QV, Wells NECA, Gallagher LH, and Yofan Fox Chap?
Mike White
11:36
That's your opinion. But I think you're pretty close.
Dunks
11:36
Who are likely candidates for the post gazette boys basketball coach of the year
Mike White
11:37
A number of them. Skrinjar, Mastroianni, Blundo, Lackovich, Gabos, Palmosina and more.

Mike White
11:39
Guts? It's not guts to give you Fab 5 picks. I don't like giving mine on this chat because it gets people all hot and bothered and then they think it's already picked. It's not just my decision. But I think you're on with some of your assessments. Personally, I think right now there are four locks. But we have coaches vote and give their opinions also.

Was in Dayton for the Ohio championships this weekend. Attendance was way down, why? Lots and lots of private schools playing in state championships. You mentioned above that the same thing will happen in PA. Although no change is coming, it is interesting to see the attendance dwindle in these two states title games.
Mike White
11:40
I didn't know Ohio attendance was down. I do know Ohio attendance for state football games is always a lot better than Pennsylvania.
Hooper
11:40
Can Canevin than volunteer to go up to 3
Mike White
11:41
No, they had to make that decision in December. They didn't. They will be 2A.

What do the Char valley girls need to do, to avoid a performance like last year?
Mike White
11:42
See if Suzie McConnell has one more game of eligibility. .... No, seriously O'Hara took it to CV last year. They were bigger, stronger and simply better than CV. And a lot of O'Hara players back. Two things have to happen. CV really has to shoot well, and get open looks. But they have to control pace of game, too.

What wpial team is the biggest lock to win, I’m thinking neshannock girls
