Ahhh, Pine was one heckuva team last year. They dominated everyone in WPIAL. Everyone knew this team wouldn't be as good. That's not a surprise. And North Hills is better. So put the two together.

What are thoughts on pines chances now after the loss and the injuries that have impacted them?
Mike White
11:33
They're still tied for first. If they win out against Kiski and Fox Chapel, which I think they will, they still could finish with No. 1 seed in conference.

Is it just me or does seating on only one side of a stadium bug anybody else? Who thought “hey Joe, won’t it make a great atmosphere if people can look across the field at an empty hillside?” SMH.
Mike White
11:34
Woooo hoooo! I've been saying for years. I had stadiums with seats on one side. Architects, just stop that.

Thought on beaver bobcats? how far do you think they will go? and do you think they will win out? and make a run in playoffs?
Mike White
11:35
They're using a Ringer to get things done. That's Wyatt Ringer. Carried the ball 48 times last week. Must have went right to chiropractor after game - to get all the Bobcats off his back.

Don't forget NH!  Nice run/pass balance on offense.  Alex Apodaca can take over a game on defense.

Initials AA. Must stand for All-American.

Mike ive been following HS Football since 1986. Since then ive seen some great Defenses. My top 5 in no particular order are :                                 1989 Perry, completely dominating defense that held Berwick to 8 points in the state championship pulling off the biggest upset  in post season history.     1987 North hills National champs. first team defense no points surrendered.                            1998 Moon Tigers                                                  2004 Central Catholic Vkings                              2002 Perry Commodores.                                                    your thoughts

North Hills still No. 1 in 1987 by far. First-team defense didn't give up a point entire season in largest class. Only 20 points overall, against second-team. They're No. 1. Renkey, Carey, Gorajewski ... tremendous. Perry 1989 defense was very good. Had some D-1 players. ... I know Perry 2002 team didn't give up a point until PIAA semifinals, but City was starting to go downhill then. They played Hopewell and Paul Posluszny in semis and gave up 20 points and lost.
11:41
One of best defenses in past 50 years was of a team that gave up one offensive touchdown the entire season --- and didn't even make the WPIAL championship. North Hills gave up an offensive TD in second game of season to Gateway and lost 9-7. That was the only game they gave up points until semifinals when Penn Hills and Tom Flynn and Bill Fralic beat North Hills, 10-7, but TD for Penn Hills was scored on INT return. North Hills D had D-1 players and future NFL player in Mark Kelso.

can the beaver bobcats make a playoff run?
Mike White
11:42
Four teams in 4A are pretty good. Belle Vernon, TJ, McKeesport and Aliquippa. They would have to beat one of them to get to semifinals. I don't see that.

do you think the pine Richland vs north hills game was a fluke game by pine Richland if they played again do you think it would be the same result?
Mike White
11:43
Can we talk about something else besides Pine and North Hills? Good lord.

It is encouraging that a lot of these young players (Parham, Gallagher, etc) are staying in the area and not transferring out to improve their stock.  Do you think this is because of AAU basketball offering extra exposure/development?
Mike White
11:45
This is a long, complicated subject that can't be explained in just one paragraph on a chat. If you want to get recruited big time, you have to play AAU. That's where you get seen the most. You also have to be good enough to play big time AAU. But if you're good, they will find you. And these guys are proving you can play in WPIAL and still get recruited by big schools.

Good morning, Mike. From what you've heard from those in attendance, did Mt. Lebo simply have an emotional letdown after the mega meeting with Central? Or were there matchup problems that couldn't be addressed until halftime? Thanks.
Mike White
11:45
I have no idea. Believe it or not, I have not spoken with those in attendance at Norwin-Mt. Lebanon.

Big 7 class A is a jumble. When's the last time we've seen a 4-way tie for second place with just two games left??
Mike White
11:46
Well there's a four-way tie for first place in the Class 5A Northeast Conference ... so it's really not a wild and crazy situation.

Your 5 favorite Wpial stadiums
Mike White
11:48
I'd have to think. But North Hills' Martorelli Stadium definitely No. 1. Personally I really like Belle Vernon's stadium. Aliquippa's has so much history, but it's really getting run down.

Can Westinghouse make a run in 2A? If I’m not wrong, they would have to go thru Farrell
Mike White
11:52
Yes, Farrell is in Class 2A. Really good. Westinghouse is in Class 2A. I'd have to check bracket, but I think Westinghouse would have to win a few games to get to Farrell.

Why all the hate on North Hills and their coach every week? Other than not winning a playoff game or section title since Jack McCurry left, NH sends a player or two to division I and II teams every year. Makes no sense to hate.
Mike White
11:53
Thank you. But just to clarify, North Hills doesn't produce a player or two to Division I every year.

Thoughts on my idea of playing 1a 2a and 3a basketball finals at Duquesne and ra 5a 6A at the Pete? Pete feels cavernous for lower classes
Mike White
11:53
Nope. WPIAL doesn't want to pay rent for two places.

Have you heard anything about crowd size limitations for winter sports?  I'm hoping the atmosphere for basketball games will look similar to these football crowds.  Makes the games even better!!
Mike White
11:54
I have not heard any schools having crowd limitations for basketball. I don't know of any that have it for volleyball.

I heard Aliquippa's getting a new stadium.
Mike White
11:55
Not that I know of. They may want a new stadium, but there has been no announcements on that.

Why are fancy private schools allowed to compete in WPIAL? They can draw students from all over WPIAL and can hand pick athletes? Is it a money thing?
Mike White
11:56
Well, here's a new subject that's never been discussed before. Look, private, parochial, charter schools are in PIAA - and are here to stay. If PIAA hasn't gotten rid of them now, it isn't going to happen. It has been talked about over and over, but PIAA wants nothing to do with getting rid of those schools.
